  1. I think I may have brought a point up on the other boards, or I may not have. In the Star Trek Cronology Book, they place Data's original activation date as somewhere in 2336, and Lore was late in 2335. And Juliana's as either 2336 or 2337. But it was kinda made clear throughout the series that Data was 26 when the show started. And he mentions that he was 34 when Generations took place.

So it kinda looks like this:

    2335-Lore is created

    2336-Data is created

    2336-2337-Juliana created/Crystaline Entity Attacks

    2338-Data is reactivated

2341-Data Enters the Academy (when he is 3)

2364- He becomes 2nd Officer on the Enterprise (26)

    2371-End of TNG

    early 2372-Generations (34)

    2373-First Contact (35)

    2375-Insurrection (37)

    2379-Nemesis (41)

I think this is basically how his cronology is worked out in the book (but, of course they didn't have Nemesis in it)

Now maybe I am the one with too much time on my hands! :) :)

  2. How could I forget one of my favourite quotes from The Offspring:

    Lal: I love you father.

Data: I wish I could feel it with you.

Lal: I will feel for both of us.

    Or the tribute in Relics:

    Scotty: What is it?

Data: It is...(looking for label). It is...(smelling contents). It is green.

Oh, definately yes! We cannot forget those!

  3. I know that we don't know when he was originally activated. But he was permanently activated in 2338, and when TNG started he was 26 (in 2364) and Nemesis occured in 2379 so he was 41 almost 42. I think the mention of Soong being in his 100's may be a remark towards his appearance, or a slip up on the writers part, I have no idea!

  4. I've read it (6 times, I'm ashamed to say, lol). Best Star Trek TNG Book I've read yet. Lives of Dax is also good, though.

And can anyone recommend Data books? They all have him in them, but not too often as the main character (I'm still looking for Metamorphosis)

I had Metamorphosis when it first came out, and somehow it was lost. . .but, about five years ago I was at a used book store in my hometown and lucky for me I found a single copy of it! Spartacus is another good one, it deals with a race of androids that are fleeing their creators.

And only 6 reads of Immortal Coil? Hey, don't be ashamed, I certainly am not. . .I have read it more than 20 times since I got it. To the point of I was caught in my Linear Algebra class reading the book instead of paying attention (HEY THE STORY IS THAT GOOD!!)

  5. Yes, but he's a very big reason why we like the show so much (You could say this for all...or MOST...of TNG characters, but it holds especially true for Data: Where would TNG be without him?)

Umm, absolutely nowhere! Well that is certainly THIS Soong's opinion!

  6. Well, I thought real carefully about this and here's my crew:

    Captain: Captain Jean-Luc Picard

    First Officer: Commander Data

Second Officer: Lt. Cmdr. Soong_girl (well this is a fantasy crew, right)

Doctor: Dr. Kate Pulaski and EMH

    Security: Lt. Cmdr. Tuvok

    Chief Engineer: B’Elanna Torres

Con: Lt. Wesley Crusher (I’m will to give grown-up Wesley a chance)

Ops: Lt. Cmdr. Soong_girl (same reason as previously stated)

    Counselor: Guinan

Hey then if that is the case Check my crew out and then add me, Lt. Commander Yillara Soong to the list as Science Officer. I sure wouldn't mind serving as a member of MY captain's crew!

  7. I know I'm gonna get killed for this: I hated Maddox too, but not as much as everyone else seems to. Obviously I don't like people who make snap judgements, especially before they've even met teh person, but I don't think he was that bad. And, like everyone else, he did reconsider in the end.

No, not killed, never that and don't worry about us yelling at you (at least I promise I won't) Because you have the right to how you feel, sister!

    But for me it's. . . :D :) :) :) :) when it comes to Maddox!

  8. 20 years, and I have been teaching it for 5 of those years!

I was competitive from 6 to 18, and would love the chance to compete again, though I'd completly stink at the Uneven Bars right now. . . wait I believe I have always been terrible at them!(Balance Beam is my favorite and Floor is my best!)

OK now we're getting way off subject here. . .now to try and get back on.. . .

Do you really think it is a good idea to compare Data who is a person to the Enterprise which is a ship? To me that is like apples and oranges.

  9. I loved that convo too. Has anyone else noticed thay some (sorry, most) of TNG's best scenes are Data scenes (I mean that in terms of profoundness, but they were the best acted too - they had Data in them :) )

Of course, But then he is just one of many reasons we like TNG so much. And in my book any scene Data is in is worthwihile and excellent! :)

  10. To be honest, I have not listened to a thing any celeb has had to say about it. They should all shut up and be actors not politicians, imo.

Here, here on that one. Or actually make them have to join the draft and be put on the frontline! I know that is harsh to some, but then . . .there are people we know that are already on the frontline dying to protect freedom (and that does include freedom of speech- the same freedom the celebs are using like a weapon!). A co-worker of mine's husband is either already on the frontline or is getting ready to be deployed there. And the Oscars, I watched them, but was really ripped when Michael Moore started his little "Hey, I am on my little soapbox, so now I'll do my thing!" That was neither the time nor the place to do that!
