  1. I'm not sure about Palpatine/Sidious...I feel a George Lucas swerve coming on with that one.

Yeah...They Are Both Played By Ian McDiramid....But I Can't Shake The Feeling That The Flanneled One Will Pull A Fast One On Us.

Well if you look at the starwars.com bios for Palpatine and Sidius you will see that Sidius is taller by I think 6 cm.

Of course Lucas might explain this as being because of Sidius's hood.

  2. ive not yet seen this commercial, but i wish i would.

    Click for Spoiler:

Basically Priceline.com tells Shatner he has been replaced. He asks by who just as Nimoy walks in. He says "Hi Bill." Shatner says "Hello Leonard." and then Shatner gets this shocked look on his face!

I wonder if they really are going to do commercials with Nimoy now.

  3. I wouldn't say I come from a military family, but Afghanistan and Desert Storm part 2 were the first wars since the Civil War where we did not have a family member serving at the time. They didn't all serve in the conflict theatre but they were active duty.

As for myself I was in the Army during Desert Storm, although I was stationed in Korea at the time.

My dad was classified 4-E during Vietnam. E stands for Even. The Army doctor said "Even if we're invaded we don't want you!" Actually, the true story is he went to enlist voluntarily, was rejected by the physician because of scar tissue on the inside of his ear and they were worried he couldn't hear battlefield commands, and when he got home from the physical his draft notice was in the mail.

Now that I am in the professional world the cost of some kind of an extended service is much higher than when I was 18. I do, however, find other ways to contribute to society. I am the Treasurer of a statewide nonprofit group, Vice President of Administration / President-Elect for another, and I am also active in my national fraternity (even though I have been out of college for 5 years).

  4. That has always been a problem with Star Trek, and I have noted it. the only time an Officer in Real life would...say, Drive the ship, is the Harbor Pilot, he's the guy who pulls it at the end of the cruise. by the way, when I was enlisted, I used to rag on officers about getting paid more for doing less work...now that I am an officer, I realise that Officers do the same amount of work, just not the SAME work the enlisted crew does. and on most ships, the idea of an officer getting dirty in the engine room is proposterous.

Yeah, it's the same in the Army though I will never believe that a Second Lieutenant has more military knowledge then a Private E-1. If anything they are the same militarily, just the 2nd Lt gets paid more and enlisted ranks have to salute him/her. When I was in the Army I always had a lot more respect for most E-1's then I did O-1's (not all but most).

Well I've served under some good 2nd and 1st Lieutenants, but they usually make (Ignore me, I'm using profanity) shortly after they make Captain.

BTW, you know the difference between an O-1 and an E-2? The E-2 has been promoted. :frusty:

  5. Every state has it's nuances but the California Vehicle Code (and yes I've been to traffic school so I know this) says if you are moving through the intersection as the light turns red you are OK. If you are in the intersection and stop moving, however, you are in violation. It is considered a parking violation, not a moving violation, but it's an expensive one.

  6. I'd go with T'Pol after all she is a Vulcan.

What is moral about being a Vulcan? Seriously, why does being a Vulcan make one more moral than being human?

The Vulcan philosophy is one of logic. Even then pure logic is an ideal to be worked toward. Very few achieve Kolinar.

But why do we equate logic with ethical behavior or even intelligence? Why do we assume Vulcans must be scientifically minded? Science is not the only occupation that uses logic.

  7. OK, I can somewhat "believe" that there is an absolute maximum speed and once this is achieved you are everywhere at once. So lets expand this theory to time travel and say that you can achieve time travel by going some extraordinarilly fast speed as well.

How do you control the DIRECTION in time you are going? Wouldn't you also have to occupy every TIME at once as well?

  8. 6. Putting on Star Fleet uniform at convention hall, not on the bus on the way to the hall.

OK, I have a true story.

Last summer a bunch of us "simmers" from around the country went to Vegas to go see Star Trek: The Experience. Now if there was anywhere that a bunch of Star Trek online roleplayers could get away with wearing uniforms you would think it would be there, right? A few of us did wear some ranks and other insignia on our street clothes, but not a majority. And none of us bought or brought any uniform garments. (The stuff The Experience sells looks fake anyway. You can do better making it yourself.)

Later on a bunch of us went to the main strip, which is all the way on the other side of town from The Experience. We saw people walking the strip with full uniforms on, and there wasn't even a convention in town that weekend!

Those are pretty good.My question is why would a person want to hide there geekness in the first place.

Only answering the phone with "Engineering this is LaForge" after checking caller id to make sure it's one of your friends from the Linux Users Group.

Hmmm thats giving me ideas on how to answer my phone :)

Works great with telemarketers too. :(
