  1. Did you know, the reason why Krudge's ship was called a 'Bird of Prey' and had wings painted on the underside was because in the original script for Star Trek 3, the villans were going to be Romulans. But then last minute it changed to Klingons but the model had alraedy been built. So that is why we ended up with a Klingon bIRD OF pREY!

    You're part right.

Originally Kruge was supposed to have stolen that ship from the Romulans but this was taken out of the script.

  2. The bennegerserate sisterhood was to be a breeding program, the Guild through the math to find the answers and the Mentat were the human computers.  Though the two rival schoos were the sisterhood and the Guild, the mantats were at the side of every royal, save the emporor :(

OK, it breaks down like this.

After the Butlerian Jihad, at the end of which all machines were outlawed (although the definition of "machine"gradually grew more lax until eventually all that was outlawed was artificial intelligence, although I could be wrong on this), various "schools" sprang up to tale their place. Of these schools, the Bene Geserit and the Spacing Guild are the only survivors at the time of Dune.

The Mentats had their own training program, but since Mentat training did not exist until after the founding of the other schools they are not considered one. Also, the Bene Geserit and Spacing Guild have their own goals and function as their own organizations. The Mentats do not.

I believe Shadam IV had a cousin that was a Mentat but it wasn't a major character. Then again I haven't read the book since 1989 so I could be wrong.

  3. ø - it's Greek - I forgot the name of the letter but that is where you get psych as in psychology.

oh well the symbol showed up until I posted.

I believe that symbol is known as theta I could be mistaken though :o

The "Psy" in Psychology is Greek. The symbol resembles a Y with the stem raised so that it looks kinda like a pitchfork. "Theta" looks like an O with a little ~ in the middle.

I had to memorize the Greek alphabet to get into my fraternity in college. I still remember most of it.

  4. Oh, yeah, forgot what I wanted to say.

The problem with heros is everyone has their own standard as to whom they consider a hero. I marked those serving in the military as my heros, although I can think of some individuals I've served under who don't deserve to wear the uniform. I consider the cops who actually protect, defend, and serve the public as heros, but this does not include the ones who are just glorified ticket writers. I consider QUALITY teachers to be heros, but many of them don't deserve to be teaching.

But what about the "whistleblowers" at, say, Enron and Worldcom? They weren't exactly in a life or death situation, but they put their livelihoods and careers in jeopardy by doing the right thing and exposing their company's corrupt business proctices. Time Magazine made them their "People of the Year" for 2002.

I think Bill Mahar said it best. "Victims" are those who find themselves in harm's way. "Heros" are the ones who PUT themselves in harm's way.

  5. Alot of people try to get into the US Military, make it in, and graduate Basic training, only to go to Medical before their first school, and find something that the docs at Military Entrance Processing Station (MEPS) missed, and they end up getting a Medical Discharge. it's sad. some of these people could have been great additions to our military.

They don't meet the minimum standards. Whether this is discovered at the MEPS or at the unit makes no difference. If they don't meet the standards they don't belong.

Is it the soldier's fault? Hell no, and I'm all for allowing them some separation pay for their time and inconvenience. But keeping them in the military puts others in the military at an increased risk.

  6. IKS-Klingon Vessel

    Correct, but incomplete.

There are two prefix designations for Klingon ships. IKS stands for Imperial Klingon Scout. You typocally find this on Birds of Prey. IKC stands for Imperial Klingon Cruiser and is for larger ships.

  7. I work.

I'm the accountant / buyer for the North American research and technology division of Bosch, an auto parts and comsumer goods manufacturer headquartered in Stuttgardt, Germany. And before you ask - No I don't speak German and No, I've never been there.

I'm also the VP of Administration for my local chapter of the Institute of Management Accountants as well as the treasurer of a nonprofit corporation. I am also studying for my Certified Management Accountant credential.

In my copious spare time I am the Vulcan Chief Engineer of a Klingon ship with a joint Klingon/Federation crew lost in the Delta Quadrant.

    Yep, I'm a nerd.

  8. Considering all the lint you get in your dryer, if you kept drying your clothes would they eventually just disappear?

So THAT's what happens with my unmatched socks!

Why do women always ask questions that have no right answers?

You mean like "Do these pants make my butt look big?" There are only 2 possible answers to this question, the one she doesn't believe and the one she doesn't want to hear (and probably STILL doesn't believe). It either IS big or it ISN'T, and it has NOTHING to do with the pants!

Do Chinese people get hungry an hour after they eat American food?

We Americans treat Chinese food like it's some big thing. But to the Chinese, it's just food.

  9. There are ofcourse normal captains & crews that are still doing other things, exploring, research, fighting, getting lost, etc. I doubt every ship has their own Time tech.

Let's face facts. Time travel appears to be a common ability. Remember "The Voyage Home"? I mean if a 23rd century Federation crew, with a science officer who is still missing a few marbles, can take a ship they're not even familiar with to the 20th century and back then what stops more advanced crews and ships from doing it?

A "time tech" position could be very valuable, if only to serve as a warning of the inherent pitfalls of time travel.

  10. It would probably be too rude to post here, whatever it was

Well, the only clean words I can think of that rhyme with Venus are Genus (meaning the group right above species in the evolutional hierarchy - the genus for homo sapiens would be homo - no snickering please) and Genius.

I was hoping someone would be able to post a creative response by now but there just isn't much to work with I guess.

  11. Of course if you want to talk about a discontinuity, Khaless and Kor have been portrayed as both smooth-headed and ridge-headed. In fact, both the smooth and ridged Kor were played by the same actor! Now try explaining that!

In fact, a powerful Klingon insult is "Hab SoSlI' Quch!". It means "Your mother has a smooth forehead."
