  1. It would be truly lame with that many characters in an episode. Even stretching it out over five episodes wouldn't give them much time on the screen with meaningful roles. It's a silly fantasy in my opinion.

Think about this: 5 crews with 7 members each over a 43 minute episode. That gives everyone just over a minute on screen assuming no time is spent only on the baddies or shots from space, which is quite unlikely. Assuming major characters would get more time, we can look forward to about 2 or 3 minutes from each captain. I really think the story would be absolutely shocking.

Some of you might say they could stretch it out over a number of episodes to make it work, but it still boils down to 43 minute eps. And if they're not in the same ep together, what's the point. It's such a contrived notion it's sad. People who dislike Ent often say part of the problem is the lip service they pay to old series without staying true to Trek. While I don't agree with them and think Ent is fine the way it is, they'd probably just go off even more if this idea became a reality.

Besides, does anyone really think they have the budget for the actors or that the actors don't have anything better to do than these bit roles?

  2. Yeah, I do prefer TSN to Sportsnet. I feel that TSN has better hockey coverage and TSN's web site is great at having the latest information in sports. I also prefer TSN's analyst team, well relatively. I hate Pierre Maguire, McKenzie is decent, but I really like Glenn Healy (he's awesome). But compared to Nick Kypreos, John Garrett, and Scott Morrison, they're much better (Watters is okay and Stellick is not bad).

The TSN on air people are good (I'm indifferent to Onrait but I like Hedger, Price, Woron, Rod Smith, and Darren Deutsychen (butchered sp). I do like Jim Van Horne and Jody Vance is alright but on the whole I think TSN has better on air personalities.

I just threw that TSN line in there to be a goof.

Oh, yeah. TSN is way better, though I don't get much of it where I'm at now.

I prefer Jim Hughson for game commentary.

  3. Yeah, but if he asks, he might be saying "What if I'd never asked such a silly question?" two days later.

    Like if I'd never asked....

    ... I wouldn't have lost a good friend.

... I wouldn't feel so embarrassed right now.

... I would have two more people in my life to help me than I do now.

Sometimes it's best to live with uncertainty and cope with your feelings on your own than share them with other people.

This isn't really related to the problem cptwright faces, but it's an example of why you should deal with your own problems.

I once had an idiot of a friend who cheated on his girlfriend. He wanted to come clean because his conscience was getting to him and yet still stay in a relationship with her. So he did and their relationship was never the same after that. What was he thinking? All he did was dump his own stress on her and cause both of them more problems. He shouldn't have done it in the first place (because she was a great girl), but if he really wanted to keep things going, he should've sucked it up and dealt with his problem on his own. If he'd never said anything, he might've gotten over it and they could've had a happy future, but they broke up in the end and then a few (less intelligent) friends took sides and those friendships were affected, too. If he'd just been strong in the first place (or even in the second), none of it had to happen.

  4. Sure, I'd love to see the old boy in action again, but I just don't see how it can work in Enterprise. I also loved how they used 20 year old pics of Shats and STVI footage - I shudder to think what he'd look like now trying to run through the ship, though it'd be good for some chuckles.

  5. Here's an interesting article off the BBC that gave me a chuckle. You might be interested in this if you're a musician. Just wondering what everyone's take is on this one. How they can put their salary down to the points described here is beyond me.

    Violinists' fury at 'pay fiddle'

Violinists are seeking an extra £60 per rehearsal or performance

Violinists in a German orchestra are suing for a pay rise on the grounds that they play many more notes per concert than their colleagues.

The 16 violinists at the Beethoven Orchestra in Bonn say they work much harder than their fellow musicians.

But orchestra director Laurentius Bonitz said it was unreasonable to compare playing a musical instrument to other jobs.

Mr Bonitz said the claim, which goes to court in May, was "ridiculous".

The violinists say they should receive an extra £60 per rehearsal or performance from their employer, the city of Bonn, to reflect the "extra notes" they have to read and play.

They also claim that a collective bargaining agreement that gives bonuses to soloists is unjust.

    Leading roles

German musicians earn basic monthly wages of up to £4,100, about twice as much as their British counterparts, according to the Daily Telegraph newspaper.

The musicians deny being pedantic. "We could have calculated the surcharge per semi-quaver, but we chose to take an easier course," one violinist said.

But Mr Bonitz argued that it was soloists and musicians in other leading roles, such as the orchestra's two oboe players, who should receive a pay rise.

"Maybe it's an interesting legal question but musically, it's very clear to everyone," he said.

Here's the link for it: Pay Fiddle

  6. Yeah.... Leave it alone, man.  You sound like a typical guy, like me.  (That's not

an insult, that's just the way it is.)  Guys are pretty smart when we're thinking above the belt, but that takes some control and restraint - true wisdom.

    Heard that!

  7. Rosamund Pike and Toby Stephens were really good. Jonathan Pryce was lame, but the character was also written poorly. I didn't know about Hopkins - that really would've helped matters. They really need a villain with a strong presence in the next movie. Sean Bean really made GE work.

And, yes, the feisty female counterpart thing is getting old fast. It's becoming as much a stereotype as the damsel in distress.

  8. freaky Red Shirt!!!

    i think Insectoid

anyhoo, maybe they are all united for the moment?

    Hey man,

Yeah, united. Like a bunch of hillbillies.

    Click for Spoiler:

And I agree on the Insectoid thing.

By the way, nice website - some of the links won't fly for me, though (maybe my firewall?).

  9. So, the AVs are still calling it a broken neck in general but when they get into the details it's really several fractures with no nerve damage to the spinal cord. I had a similar injury to my lower back and it took about 7 weeks before the pain went away and about 3 months to feel 100% - they're saying 6 - 12 weeks for him, which is right on schedule. After I fractured my back skydiving (crashed into a tree), I went to a wedding the next day and waited one more day before I went to the hospital, where they told me there was little they could do because of the location of the injury and the high likelihood that it would heal naturally.

They're also saying his future is in doubt. Well, duh! He's a rookie with 12 points (5G, 7A) on a very high-scoring team and he's not much of a goon, so I'd say his future in the NHL would have been in doubt without the injury. Without the injury, he'd be a fourth line centre at this point or an AHLer. It's just that with him getting hurt and the distinct probability that he might be replaced by a better player anyway, the AVs can milk this to hurt one of their top rivals.

Trust an organisation partially run by Tony Granato to pull something like this.

  10. Obviously someone put a great deal of time into that little production and it's interesting for what it is - a dream. But really, it's such a cheesy idea that it's beyond description. It's completely naff.

People complain so much about episodes that hit the reset button at the end and I think most people want B & B to come up with something more creative than a reset to resolve the Xindi plot. The story these people have come up with is a reset for all of Trek. If they bring back all of those characters, no story will ever have a clear conclusion in the future because we'll know they'll just pull them out of the grave (or wherever) anytime they need a quick fix.

This is a terrible idea. Ent. is good as it is and I think it's got some of the best Trek we've seen in it - let it find its own way. I'm all against this lame idea for bringing back Kirk.

  11. Bolivar, you've got a point there. It's so obvious I'm amazed nobody has every brought it up before, but it's just another example of some of the haphazard writing in Ent. at times (love it though I do). Ah, well, back on topic...

I was just wondering, if an insectoid and humanoid or any of the other Xindi attempted to mate,

    (edited for sexual content)

  12. ‚à‚¿‚ë‚ñ‰pŒê‚ª•ª‚©‚éB“ú–{Œê‚à’†“r”¼’[‚É‚µ‚á‚ׂê‚éB

Obviously I speak English. I can also speak Japanese in a half-baked manner.

Don't worry if the text above doesn't display on your comp. It's because you don't have the Japanese character set - no need to download it if you don't. In fact, don't do it - one guy who DLed it off a website I made said it messed up his comp, but he was pretty clueless.

I used to be able to speak French, but lost it once I started learning Japanese and it was quite a long time ago that I studied it.

  13. (well Maybe Hugh Jackman - yeah I'd go see Hugh Jackman)

But he's not British. Every Bond has been a member of the British Commonwealth. Jackman is an American. I think that he could make a good Bond, but it is not possible. He is not British. On Die Another Day, they had the first ever American editor on the film, and the editing went to crap. It was all Matrix-esque and having uber fast then uber slow paces. Garbage. If they finally abandoned their roots and went with an American Bond, the new movies would be crap to me.

Uh, Hugh Jackman is Australian. He qualifies. George Lazanby was Australian too so it can be done.

    Hugh Jackman IMDB Profile

The guy I've heard rumours about is Matthew Perry (shudder). I don't think it would ever work.

And Sean Connery was Scottish. He is also not exactly the greatest fan of Great Britain and I doubt he would relish being considered British.

Moreover, Pierce Brosnan is Irish, which explains why he's so cool. I think he moved to England when he was 11 or 12.

I think Hugh Jackman would do a good job of it. I think Hugh Grant would have been interesting if he hadn't done so many comedies already (check him out in "Lair of the White Wyrm" for a laugh - but not if your upset easily by dark, cheesy, religious imagery). Colin Firth, who has also starred in a number of movies with Grant, might pull it off a little better.

If I had to choose 1 person, it would be Ralph Fiennes; however, despite how much I like Bond movies, I think he's too talented to even entertain the idea.

  14. Your sister's right - just forget about it. She might just be concerned for your well-being. Different people have a different interpretation of what those words mean and what situations they're appropriate in. Telling your friend Justin is just going to cause tension between you and you probably need a friend more than anyone else at the moment.

But hey, I'm not you and I don't know all the details so you've gotta make the decision. If I were in your shoes, I'd just blow it off.

  15. I only have 3 fillings and I eat sugar like it's, umm, candy. Then again, I haven't been to the dentist for 3 years (due to being abroad and not having a whole lot of good dentists around) and probably have a mouthful of ugliness at this point.

  16. I don't know anything about it, but doesn't the star's contract usually indicate a certain amount of average time on-screen per episode or across a season? I think this is why Bakula (Archer) does everything - he needs to be where the main action is. It's messing things up because other characters hardly see any screen-time if I'm right in this assumption.

I said Sato should've flown the mission because I think she's the most expendible on this mission. On the other hand, Mayweather's a better pilot. Maybe they should've both gone.
