I don't see it. Not at all. It's just a message board. Then again, how connected you are here all depends on how good or bad your real life is and how connected you are to the people in it. No message board will every compare to that and I think it's sad that people get so attached to something so trivial.I think ARMS' original point was that a lot of members here have developed more connections then just the board, and that it has made him feel particularly close to that group.
He started with
.Have you noticed how close everyone is on here? Thanks to the board, MSN, AIM, Yim, Yahoo etc we're closer than the Voyager crew. For me, I am astonished at my own level of particpation on this board.
The behavior consistent with my personality would be what people here call "lurking." I don't know what about this site drew me out of my cocoon and caused me to start having regular conversations with complete strangers!
I don't have the feeling of family, but then I do not have the connections many have. But I would miss not talking regularly with this extraordinarily diverse strongly opinionated group of Star Trek lovers. ( And, I have learned a lot from other peoples' comments, including the ones with which I disagree!)

In my opinion you played right into his hand Jeanway. That is exactly what he was hoping to accomplish..A fight..It would have been better if you either just discussed Star Trek with him or just ignore the whole thing..Personal attacks and accusations can't be tolerated on this board..We did try to get the topics back to Star Trek before AE showed up..But we weren't successful..I agree with ST about what could have happened, and the fact that inappropriate responses played right into the hands of someone who wants to denigrate this site. He can go off and say stf.net cast insults when they cannot handle reasoned remarks against Enterprise.
Some other members, had they been allowed to engage in a trek discussion, may have had specific answers for him, as "well -reasoned" as he perceived his own to be, and then would have eventually caused him to have to fling the first mud in order to continue his bashing.
AE explained something of what mods can and cannot do.
But a lot can be done to thwart bashers if we just demonstrate within our posting the rules we claim we abide by on this site.

We are constantly served this diet of "he said/she said" and there is no way of really knowing. We choose up sides and watch peoples' lives made into spectacles. It is so unfortunate.
I think the judge should have kept the records sealed, and spared the child, who apparently still had a relationship with the father, a relationship which the mother sanctioned.
The Ryans had resoved the situation, whatever it was, between themselves. It should have been left at that.

Unless copyright laws change they wouldn't be having a movie night anyway - private home viewings only.
I have to take exception with the old b&w being boring. Some of them actually had plots....contemporary action movies with non stop special effects (and no plot) bore me to tears. Maybe they choose these movies in an attempt to portray the crew as culturally educated.
In defense of Trip it sounds like he's trying to choose movies that would meet the needs of the crew not just picking movies he likes. (a Hope and Crosby show for morale) That is what a person in leadership is supposed to do.
Does anyone remember "The Greatest Show on Earth" about the circus where they pan the audience and there are Hope and Crosby eating popcorn.
You know, I need to see Son of Paleface - I haven't had a good laugh in a while.
I agree. People watch movies in part to get something that's lacking in their own lives or to experience things they can't through film. Why would the crew be interested in an action/Sci-Fi movie when they're living it every day? They'd much more likely want to be reminded of the peacefulness of home, which is exactly what happens in some of the movies that have been shown.
*Sigh*
Exactly the point I made in the second post in this thread, RSV.

It was Trip and Phlox's wife Feazil.WHO IS FEAZIL?

Please read the line you quoted. Feazil is Phlox's wife....one of them.

Station BreakOkay, this was my thread so I'm waving the flag here - I think you have all proven a point that relationships are hard and communicating with another human being is difficult.
So for ST writers just to say Denoblians all have 3 spouses and sex is freely participated in outside of all marriages is a little short sighted to what relationships involve.
Does anyone have anything to say about whether Denoblian marriage could work?
Well, think about how much Phlox is liked as a character. If Phlox represents the average Denobulan, then Denobulans are remarkably easy-going and of friendly temperament, and very well educated. We know that one of Phlox's wives was an expert in whatever equipment she and Trip are working on, so Denobulan women are educated, not slaves. Phlox had no problem with her flirting with Trip, which shows that there is not a lot of jealousy ( or fidelity) in Denobulan society. Their nature causes them at least to be suited to how their society handles marriage.
Of course, observing that their marrianges are consistent with their easy-going nature says nothing about why things came to be.

I am glad to have the additional info that Future Guy is representing himself as a humanoid with pointed ears. The plot thickens!
I'll add to Captain Bolivar's list of pointed eared aliens: the vorta.

This question may be off topic but is Denobula or whatever Phlox's homeworld is called a member of the Federation? I know it wasn't a founding member. It may have joined later. If the Federation eventually has hundreds of worlds, we certainly have not seen all the races that come to constitute the Federation. That leaves writers lots of leeway to come up with new ones, like the peoples of Denobula, which makes for excellent new characters like Phlox.

You all may be right but my line of thought is if Paramount makes Enterprise why not use just clips of their just released movies as free advertisement. Most likely we'll only see just a small scene if that of the movie and that will a commercial within the program itself. Then as the season progresses someone will most likely bring up the clip from episode whatever and we'll all just have to rush our to see what the Ent crew was watching. That's a really good idea...now are TPTB paying attention?
Within the show, couldn't there be a committee that goes to Archer and gets the right to vote on the movie for movie night, so that it would not just reflect one man's taste?

I don't believe John Fleck is dead.I did a web search and found THIS blog site with entries by "him" as recent as 6/21/04. Yeah that could be a different JF but bio sites on him list nothing about him dying.
Well, he certainly seemed fine in that link, AE! So there is no reason to not believe Scott Bakula, and the fact that loose ends with regard to time travel will be tied up in Enterprise's season 4.

I'm breathless with anticipation!!!!!!!!!!!
I defintiely will get TOS season 1 before I even finish purchasing DS9 sets. TOS is my favorite, favorite Star Trek series, and if my budget calls for one new set in a period of a few months, then I will wait for TOS!!
I love those episodes that are coming out in the season one set! I have seen them sold one at a time, and I have put off buying them piecemeal!
I am so very glad to hear this news!!!! :) B)

I voted that you should get rid of them, because you expressed being tired of doing them in your post. The way I see it, is that if you get a sufficient break, a period of rest of an unspecified length of time, you may feel like bringing it back. But you will not continue to be creative if you are tired.
If the vote is to continue, you could still modify it by posting a new silly song monthly, or every two weeks....that would still at least reduce some of the pressure, and give you a break.

I don't know, but they would not eliminate the entire race because a leader died ( assuming that if the actor died they kill off the leader. They may just put in a new actor since the Suliban have such heavy make-up.). He was not the only Suliban. ( I don't mean to be insensitive to the man's death.)
-
In an interview with scott bakula at startrek.com Bakula said that season four would tie up all the time travel stuff, so the Suliban will be back.

Well, I don't want to blow any misconceptions here but I believe the old B&W classic movies are chosen is because Paramount would not any longer have to pay any "royalty" fees like they would if say they showed a sequence of "The Matrix" or something because they are in the public domain.
Ktrek
Kind of like the discussion of the forehead ridges on Klingons. The real reason for no ridges in TOS was money...they could not afford it. But fans look for justifications within the Star Trek saga.
So maybe Paramount does not want to pay movie royalties in reality. But within the Enterprise saga....whose choosing the movies, and why?
-
I think I would have chosen to go to movie night. If I were on Enterprise, I would not need an adventure film or a "modern" sci fi film...I would be living an adventure. I would need a diversion compelling enough to divert my mind, something both entertaining and engaging, which a lot of classic films are.

Everybody has a bad day every now and then. But tomorrow comes, and usually that is a better day.
As the saying goes, you gotta keep on keepin' on!
-
Neither...too expensive for the time being. Next season set will be a Christmas present from Mom or another family member.
-
I dont find it funny at all.I don't get it either, unless it is related to the fact that he did the cooking on Voyager. It seems kind of flat as a joke.

I don't like the DVD cases that come with the DS9 DVD's so I've been making my own.I'm pretty pleased with how they are turning out.
What are you doing....making covers for individual disks? That would certainly make each disk more readily accessible then what I am dealing with.
Each of the season sets I have came in one big cumbersome sleeve with connected plastic pages holding individual disks.
If this is what you had I can see why you might want to do reorganize things.

I have endless fond memories of my father, now gone for one and a quarter years.
One has to do with how he handled being repeatedly unfairly passed over for promotion. The last instance of this was when a woman who had once been under him was promoted over him...now his boss. She did not really know how to do her job, because she had no experience, and my dad had tons. He could have let her fail, but he helped her with all the inside knowledge she needed to succeed. There was no complaining or griping those years, and she kept in touch when he retired, and has remained concerned for my mother since he passed.
I have seen him handle one unfairness after another without complaining. Most of it I learned about when I was having to deal with problems in my own life, and then I found out about some of the things he went through.....I had never known them as a child, or young adult. His life example was the best advice for living a person could ever want.
My mother is missing him acutely today.

Nice to see that Star Trek was a "family affair" for so many! And for many of you, even you dads were into Star Trek...
! My father could never quite understand the interest we (my sister and I) exhibited in anything related to Star Trek, but he loved us anyway! -
I selected the third choice, because even though my family does not home can, I know what it is. My former office mate at work still does it, altough she hates it. She does it because her husband loves it.

I have no idea.....I tend to come here at different times.....

Isn't it sad, that the bad behavior of some "guests" force us to consider being less open by making such changes?
Not being tricked into flaming is at least staying on top of the situation.
