So which one, VBG?6. I am related to a signer of the Declaration of Independence (I forget which one but if anyone asks I can find out). -
I've been re-reading a series of children's books, The Chronicles of Narnia by C.S. Lewis. I am currently reading the seventh and last book of the series, called "The Last Battle."

Great observation!
I love being on websites where people pick up on details I have missed!

I wonder why people complain about species like the Denobulans, and the Xindi, because they were not seen in the past. I think in First Contact, Picard tells Lily there are over 150 planets in the Federation. While there were probably less in Kirk's time, it is clear we did not see every Federation member in TOS.
So it is reasonble to create stories involving some of those species we did not see then!

You are full of surprises, Harry! I hope you also now understand that being able to enjoy a series does not mean you like every single thing they do with it.
I enjoy Enterprise, even though I have my own opinions about how some things should be done. I also enjoy trying to follow and understand what actually happens in the series, even though I have ideas too.
-
Well, gee. In the Enterprise series, the Federation has yet to get started. And we are supposed to discuss it's possible fall?

It is a blessing to live to be 84, even with health problems. And he is blessed to be surrounded by people who care about him.
I also wish him well.

I picked Distant Origin, a very provocative story. I do not really feel that strongly about any episode this season. i enjpyed many of them.....they just were not really favorites.

And give up my sun-filled condo? Never! Besides, I have my steaks and hamburgers cooked well-done......I do not like blood flowing on my plate. The only vampires I know of are the Dracula types....not for me!

Well, I think his parents are doing a good thing to get him out and about an away from a computer keyboard for a while. It is called "vacation." It uses a finite amount of time, so WAB will not be gone forever, as he himself will soon see.

I voted be good, but I have no advice to give, because I have very little insight into the area of relationships. Oh, but lack of experience never stopped anyone from chipping in their two cents worth, now did it?
Shakespeare had some advice on being yourself. Paraphrasing, to thine own self be true, and it shall follow as night follows day that you will then be false to no man.
I have learned who I am, and I stick with it, through all the many disappointments in my life. It allows peace of mind to dominate my life, no matter what is straifing my life at the moment.

I voted for Family, one of the very few episodes of TNG where I was able to feel for Picard (Usually he was just too strong and self-assured, and I knew he could "handle it"). I enjoyed seeing the role of family in the lives of some of the crew. I think this episode was important to later underrstanding the film Nemesis; recall that Picard's brother and nephew were killed in Generations.

The Visitor is my favorite episode of Star Trek, period. It has become even more meaningful to me since I lost my own father about a year and a half ago. But Jake spends a lifetime struggling with what felt like the death of a loved one, but was not. Every time he just about figured out how to "get on with his life", his father would reappear, refreshing the pain of loss, until the situation consumed Jake. It was interesting to watch the father-son relationship maintained, even as Jake ages, and becomes "older" than Sisko. One of my favorite lines of Star Trek is Captain Sisko's lament: "Jake, my sweet boy!" as his gray-haired son died in his arms. A wonderful episode.

I have seen two different commercials on the air, involving Shatner and Nimoy. I think they are enjoyable and funny, but I use travelocity.

Maybe he will have pictures for the new gallery!

MJ, I have been as helpful as I can to this officer. he's been in his current post long enough to know what the deal is. I have to show him how to do some things that I consider very basic on an almost daily basis, and he never picks it up. he makes no effort to learn, either. I'll stand before the Captain, let him know why I said it.Well, okay. I am glad to know you gave it a shot in trying to help the guy. I hope everything works out. I do think the guy over-reacted, and that this whole situation is a poor use of Navy time.

See RK! PROBLEM PLUS TIME EQUALS SOLUTION. P + T = SVery well said, jeanway! I'll keep that one for myself.

So yes, friday I get to go to a Non Judicial Punishment proceddings, and not as a witness, but as the defendant. I was called in to work today, which doesn't surprise me, and my boss, a Lieutenant (O-3, same as a Captain in the US Army) was having difficulty doing his job. I asked him for permission to speak freely, and I told him that if he knew how to do his job, I wouldn't be here and neither would the other people there. he told me that I was out of line (which I may have been, but I am right), and that he was writing me up on charges of Insubordination and Disrespecting a superior officer. the Legalman in the office, however, managed to talk him out of the insubordination charge, but the Disrespecting a superior officer charge stands. I shall find out on Friday what the Captain says, after an investigation. I shall keep you all posted as to what is going on.While I think your lieutenant over-reacted to your remarks, that does not change the fact that the remarks were ungracious. He should have just let your put-down roll off his back.
If I were to put myself in the other man's shoes, I might have expected that when you asked to speak freely that you were going to give me some unsolicited advice, not tell me that I was not up to par. I suspect he knows he is not up to par.
So all you did was rub salt in the wound, and provoke an equally ungracious response.
I have seen people respond to such situations with grace, and I have seen people just say what is " the truth" and let the chips fall where they may. Your case was to speak the truth and let the chips fall. The man isn't any better at his job then when you made the observation.
My dad was in a situation where someone was put over him who could not do her job....did not have the experience. He could have let her fall, pointing out her inadequate knowledge, and could have done it on a regular basis. But instead he taught her " the ropes, " and warned her of the snares. There were no accolades for responding graciously, and only a handful of people, relatives of the principal players, were "in the know." But the result was a functioning place of work for everybody, and the job getting done. And a lot of lasting mutual respect among the parties involved.
For your sake, I hope nothing comes of this charge.
I would wish that sometimes you would want to be more helpful, rather than merely right.

Over the past few months, I've actually made my family watch Voyager as a routine every weekday night at midnight....well technically Tues.-Sat. at 1200 am
It's great!!!
Doesn't anyone have to get up early for work during the week?
Well that's great too!I just found out that MY UNCLE IS A TREKKIE!!!!!!
Mom is not a convert...she is not a trekkie. She just has come to understand that the stories are good, and now sees why I like it so much. She still can't quite accept the look of "aliens."Man mj, i wish i had family members like that. the Only Trekkies inmy family live far away from me, so we never get to talk about it. You're a VERY lucky person. -
Nemesis is certainly at the bottom of my list of fav Star Trek movies..It's just about killed off any future Trek movies..Though I'm still holding out hope for that..The only movie I thought was worse was 'Insurrection' IMO..Believe it or not I even like ST 1 and ST V better..ST, our tastes are so different. I loved Insurrection...especially the idea of a perfect moment in time, and being able to make such moments linger.
I also liked Nemesis.....one of the few times I felt sorry for Picard. The era of the TNG Enterprise crew being together was ending....Picard was losing his family. I thought it was a well-told tale, centering on that theme.

I think ARMS' original point was that a lot of members here have developed more connections then just the board, and that it has made him feel particularly close to that group. He started with
.Have you noticed how close everyone is on here? Thanks to the board, MSN, AIM, Yim, Yahoo etc we're closer than the Voyager crew.Yes, but ARMS said "everyone" here, not a small group that he's connected to.
If you think the people here are family/friends, great - that's nice. They don't carry that status with me.
In making the remark, RSV, I was stating what had been commmuicated to me through what I read. But I don't just mechanically look at the words, but try to get the poster's meaning.
Now it just so happens that ARMS had posted a thread where he specifically asked people who did they know in other contexts who were also particpating on this board. It turns out that many had overlapping activities, including those acronyms listed above, and so regularly saw each other in other settings, in additional to meeting on stf.net.
Most of the people responding in this thread are people who have these overlapping connections.
They talk to each other here and elsewhere. Many are also people who have some of the largest post counts on this board. Some may not have the connections of the group in this post doing most of the repsonding, but because of their broad activity on this board have an awareness of the members.
But ARMS cannot have literally meant everyone, because their are nearly 1200 members here, and hundreds have posted at least once. There are over 200,000 posts here. He and even most of the members posting here have never talked to all the people represented by these posts.
There are also other circles who communicate regularly on the board very deeply with members of their circle, and more superficially with members not in their circle, who are not posting in this thread, but they have deep connections also.
Most of the people responding here talk to each other here ALL THE TIME, and are close. And feel close.
I think that is what is being expressed.
As I said before, I do not quite feel like family. I, like you, am close to my wonderful, but problem filled family in the real world.
But I do feel connected to this board.

No, I do not believe them.

On Space:The Imagination Station!I believe they showed "The Day The Earth Stood Still"
and "Forbidden Planet" had the parts of the film as a Prototype to Star Trek as far as the Beaming and the Propulsion systems
and the German Film "Metropolis" is also a Silent Black and White Film with awesome Music in the Film
 :o
I love
"The Day the Earth Stood Still." I have it on video. I have rented "Metropolis," and it was compelling.
My favorite movie is a black and white film, but not a sci fi. It is the movie "King's Row, " which I have on video. I think many people here would find the film uninteresting.
There are a lot of really good choices in black and white films beside what has been mentioned.
