  1. Morn was great! I loved the episode 'Who mourns for Morn?', he was like the person who you see every day but never talk too. A familiar stranger. Rather like some of the extras in Cheers. I also loved the way he was always just about to speak but then people interrupted him.

  2. It doesn't surprise me at all. I am a die hard DS9er but I think Enterprise has had a stronger first 2 years then any of the modern Treks.

I agree so much. ENT has had a phenomenal two seasons, no matter what a couple of antiquated, out-of-touch, illogical, clumsy, vague and downright inaccurate 'statistics' say. Oh, and the afore-mentioned discriptions fit most of the critics of ENT too.

Ent has had some truely dynamic, mind-blowing episodes (I can't name an episode that I haven't liked), it has complex, vibrant charaers and what looks to be an almost revolutionary story arc.

I also always thought of Hoshi as a Science officer primarily and a comm officer secondly, so I never had a problem with the stripe.

  3. Wow! Another great video VBG! I'll have to visit these forums more often just for the videos!

I had a similar idea when I first heard the theme tune to Cheers. (It is fantastic isn't it?) I thought of doing a parody of the intro sequence of Cheers, using the stylized sketches but incorporating Star Trek characters instead of the Cheers cast and have them doing the same basic motions as the cast and altering the background slightly to make it more familiar. A 19th century Quark's anyone? Complete with the Ferengi himself, with a bushel moustache and a monacle? However, it still wouldn't compete with Quark as a woman...

  4. Kes. However, its not an easy answer. I loved both characters. I actualy liked Seven more because she was 'less human'. I liked the fact that she wasn't another nice warm fuzzy charactr who was shallow and could be understod easily and who become a welcome part of the crew with the minimum amount of fuss. I loved that she was alien and brittle and different, that she was an engima. That we had to follow Janeway on her long quest to understand and help Seven, so that we might begin to get an insight into her ourselves. That she was complex. That she caused ripples among the Voyager crew. That she really really developed as a character and as a person and that we get to see this ourselves. That we learned to love her, and weren't able to figure her out the instant she arrived. That she triumphed.

Still...for reasons I can't articulate, Kes. I don't think she was 'better' then Seven, I just liked Kes more. Possibly because her character was not 'overusd', like I think Seven's was. That's the only thing I didn't like about Seven, (not Seven's character) that the producers felt they had to hammer home the message that Seven-was-a-drone-but-Janeway-restored-her-humanity-shucks. However, that is a minor niggle, a 'nit pick'.

I'm off to look out for some earlier VOY shows to see why I like Kes so much...

  5. Enterprise would be rather pointless without subspace transmitters so I guess they just included them in and hoped no one would notice. I do have a couple of ideas though...

The quote says that the transmitters were not in general use. Its possible that prototype(s) were made and were fitted into Enterprise as some kind of 'field test' (after all they do have a working prototype transporter on Enterprise) OR the Vulcan had transmitters then didn't they? Maybe the gave the transmitter(s) to StarFleet for use in the NX-01 only, as a good will gesture.

    Other then that I'm stumped.

  6. I think it was a lot like DS9, Voyager got better as it grew older. Obviously, we are not going to appreciate the characters ater a couple of shows, after all we hardly know anything about them. As time passed we learned so much about the characters and they really did develop and grow. After all, look at Ensign Kim. What a change from the naive, shy and uncomfortable individual straight out of StarFleet academy to the soaciable, confident, intellgent and enthusiastic senior officer who was a valued member of the crew. The average episode/story arc plots also became better towards the end. However, I think that the same thing could be said for all of the Star Trek's. (with the exception of TOS as I have never seen it) The writers have to establish a solid foundation for the series first, then they can become more creative and imersive; and have more freedom.

In conclusion then, Voyager at the end was better then Voyager at the beginning.

  7. If I could have any ship, then easily the Curry class prototype ship shown in DS9. Beautiful and ridiculous in equal meusure.

However out of those given it would have to be DS9. One of the artists who helped design the show has a proper scale replica of the station, complete with working electronic docks and runabouts! Nice.

  8. Ooh...actualy this is quite easy.

    1. DS9

    2=. VOY

    2=. ENT

    3. TNG

    (I haven't seen TOS)

DS9 is my firm favorite. I loved it right from when they started showing it, even though I didn't grasp many of the concepts at the time. I used to really dislike VOY but now with every episode I enjoy it more. ENT is great, if not perfect. And TNG...Well I like it but I can never 'imerse' myself in the show, if you know what I mean. I don't find it as deep as the other 3.

    :assimilated:

  9. Good question. I think that by the end of season 2 they would have had some plan of the Dominion playing a major role in the series. I loved what they did with the Dominion and to this day I hold a soft spot for the Jem'Hadar. Poor things...

  10. I HAD to chose the DS9 5-7 ones. They look so professional, suave and suit the new moods and circumstances that the Federation had to deal with. They actually look like proper, real uniforms.

The TNG/VOY ones...Look so cartoony and so much like pajamas. Now, I like pajamas, but I wouldn't want to be wearing them whilst facing off the Dominion in a bitter life-or-death struggle or such...

  11. I love both characters but... Jadzia wins by a nose. Witty, smart, compassionate and calm. B)

If it was in a space conflict, then I would prefer Jadzia easily to be at my wing, covering my ship. Although in a hand-to-hand fight Kira would be better, as she is very courageous in a desperate battle.

The episode 'The Siege' is a great episode for showing how both characters would fare in combat.

  12. *phew* My publishers will be relieved. I thought I was going to have to come up with yet another all round brilliant, amazing, genre defining, superhuman, rather good idea. That would make 78.39 today. *sigh* It is hard, being pure genius on a lollypop stick...

  13. I don't think you can copyright the idea of using the Beta quadrant...

If you can, however, I'm getting the other 3...

'C with bubble 'round it' MMIII blah-blah...

  14. Actualy they are not similar at all. They are completely different. I've just summarised it in such a general way that they sound identical. For example, part of my little FanFic wll take place on a spacestation, which I don't think happens in yours (though I'll have to check)

    Goodluck with it

Oh wait. We have said the same thing! Oops! My bad...My server is slow so Webpages takes a-g-e-s to load and I've got in the bad habit off clicking on post straight away instead of waiting for the darn thing to load.

    Sorry...

  15. Maybe I'm just stuck in my ways and like 24th century Star Trek...

I do think of it a Star Trek show. However I don't mentaly see Enterprise as a pure, easily identifiable Star Trek show. Get rid of the Star Trek references and it could be any other Sci-fi show. What I meant is I see it as separate from the other shows. I don't think 'Ah, so thats how they formed the Federation' or such. I see it as a enjoyable show that has links with Star Trek but that is different and separate. Rather like milk and cheese.

  16. Borderline Fan/Fanatic. I voted Fanatic but now I think I'm more of a fan...

I have only seen a couple of TOS shows but I do watch the TOS movies.

I watch TNG episodes when I can and I makea special effort for movies when they are on TV, though I don't bother to watch them in a cinema or buy them.

I LOVE DS9 and I am in the process of buying all the DVD sets.

I make a special effort to watch all the VOY shows on TV, though I probably will not buy the DVD sets.

    Same goes for ENT.

I am engaged in a Star Trek RPG and I'm looking out for Star Trek books.

    Borderline...

There aren't set values for being a Fan and a Fanatic. On the description given in the poll I would rate myself as a Fanatic however using my own evaluation of what it means to be a Fan and a Fanatic I would rate myself as a Fan.

  17. I agree with VBG. The precedent is there and besides, its a Star Trek show in the Star Trek universe, why shouldn't it be called Star Trek: Enterprise. I think they left out the name because most people associate Star Trek with StarFleet, the Federation and the fact that the Federaion is a massive organisation with a lot going on simultaneously. In Enterprise however, there is only one thing to concentrate on, the ship, Enterprise.

Unfortunately, I don't see Enterprse as being a real Star Trek series anymore, mostly because of the title, though there are other factors. I now group the shows as TOS, TNG, DS9, VOY and Ent, the indirect spin off from Star Trek.

  18. Beautiful, beautiful ship. I love the ship and also that it tells us the those StarFleet admirals haven't been sitting on their arses and have actualy designed something. I can see this ship being mass produced in the future as the ultimate StarFleet ship.

I liked this ship so much that I'm designing a Poseidon class ship which incorporates some of the design specifications. (in my story, the design of the Posiedon class came from an offshoot of the project that created the Prometheus...)

The Equinox was not intended for sustained interstellar travel. It was meant for traversing solar systems and was a very low key research vessel.
