  1. I would like the series 6, if it happens, to be set in the future, a couple of years after Voyager ended. This era appeals to me so much because an incredible tapestry has been woven of this time frame. It should be with a new ship, maybe the Prometheus or *ahem* a Poseidon class ship anyone? It should be in deep space, probably the Beta quadrant. However, I don't think one ship should have all the attention, maybe one of the main cast could be on another ship or marooned on a distant colony...

Iterestingly, DS9 was originally going to be set in a frontier colony. However, the sheer expense of seting up a series based on this idea soon changed the developers minds.

  2. He appeared to be. He was rash and he wasn't intelligent. He was a loose cannon. Picard didn't seem to trust him to command the Enterprise often.

When I said poor I meat that he was nothing speacil. He was adequate, nothing more, nothing less.

He didn't get chosen primarily for any skills or qualification that he might have had. Picard says that he was not really considering Riker to be the First Officer, Riker was one of several cadidates, until he saw that Riker had been disciplined for disobeying a direct order from his (Riker's) commanding officer but in doing so had probably saved the ship and the crew. Picard didn't want someone who would merely follow orders, he wanted a First Officer who would think for themselves and who would protect the ship, no matter what.

I forget the episode name, but it is the one where the discover the Pegasus and the secret phasing/cloaking device...

  3. Exactly. Star Trek has reached such a level of fame that any new show would almost certainly earn Paramount a substantial proft, regardless of the show's quality. That said, I think that Enterprise is a good show, no where near the level of DS9 but still, perfection comes but once a lifetime...

The current ratings system is totaly flawed. It is in essence a cheap gimmick and should be treated as such and should not be treated as if it were the scientific proof of a show's quality. Hopefuly, the suits at Paramount HQ will know this and will not decide on the show's future based on the ratings.

Go forth, wise Paramount, and spread the Good News; Enterprise, will live on...

  4. Riker?!? He was, although being rather a good, if shallow character towards the end, a poor 1st officer and he never engaged or interested me. Picard however...

Picard trumps Riker anyday. Picard was a powerfull, compassionate intriguing man. Riker was a chump.

  5. That would be ace. A final, incredible, blaze of glory from the freshly evolved Borg... It could also be a damnably good movie, with maybe from a different perspective this time. I personaly would really like seeing Bajor's viewpoint, several years after DS9, with StarFleet occupying a secondary role...

  6. DS9's season 2 has an interview with Quark AND a feature on Zek himself! Now they really are spoiling us. The producers also talk about the Ferengi in depth in a seperate interview! The DS9 series is really the Ferengi's series. They steal the show...

  7. Which was cool and helped introduce Sisko and the first story arc of DS9. I personally think that the Borg idea has been used up by now in the 24th century timeline. I think that Enterprise might be able to use and explore the Borg a bit more but I wouldn't like it to be a major story arc as it would be getting to repetitive.

Hopefuly, if we get another late 24th century Star Trek, thanks to the actions of Voyager in it's last episode, we will see very little of the boring borg.

  8. As long as they don't add unnecessary gore then I would be fine if they added gruesome scenes. However, for me Trek has never needed gore and I'm actualy kinda glad they have hardly used any gruesome scenes at all. So instead of Star Trek relying on graphicaly showing how gruesome or terrible something is, the actors in Trek have to show when and how something is 'gruesome' by their acting. Which means that Star trek gets top quaity actors and doesn't go for the cheapest available and patch up the cracks with speacil effects.

  9. DS9 highlighted the Dominion and the Gamma quadrant. VOY highlighted the Borg and the Delta quadrant. It would have been unimaginative to say the least to have both series basicily confronting the same enemy. Although would have liked one episode with the Defiant doing what it was designed to do: kick some borg butt! However, it would have ruined the feel and uniqeness of DS9. DS9 was darker and more complex then any other Star Trek, for better or worse. (mostly better) It would have completely ruined the feel of DS9 to instead of having the untrustworthy, sneaky, lying Dominion and Cardassians (I'm going with the theory that the Cardie's would NOT ally with the borg and declare war on the Federation) as the main enemys, to have the stupid, vapid, crush-'em-an'-mush-'em no brainer borg as the foe's. It would have reduced DS9 to more-or-lss a VOY clone in slightly different circumstances. It would have ruined the show.

The Borg would probably assimilate the cloaking technology of the Dominion, making them truly unstoppable in regards to the last question...

  10. They propably made her more emotional then normal for vulcans so as not to freak out the 'newbie' trekkers who only watch ENT and to allow them to engage more easily with her. With that said: LOGICAL! There is so much emotion constantly on that ship, more then any other ship in Trek, that we need a balancing factor to couter-act it. Otherwise it's a slippery slope towards a garish, flaky, shallow soap with neat speacil effects.

  11. The intresting quetion to ask is, if Janeway had left VOY shortly after Seven joined, would Seven still be the same, intresting chracter? After all it as mostly Janeway and the Doctor who spearheaded her reutilization into human company, and I don't think that without the Captain's express backing (which might not happen if Janeway went) the Doctor would even bother. Maybe Seven ould have become a secondary character, appearing for a few shows before, with all her borg-ness intact, she manages to escape to a borg cube, alerting them of Voyager's presence. Cue borg-fighting story arc...

Heck, maybe they would have been able to bring Kes back shortly to counter-act the borg and to give her a proper send-off, something that I would have approved of...

  12. Dukat. A more complex, twisted and darn right charismatic villan I have never seen. To me he is the only evil guy Star Trek has ever produced who is really intelligent and coniving. (all the others Q (mostly bad), Seska, Whatisface, that weak eyed dominion guy who was chums with Dukat etc were smart but flawed) He was a 3-dimensional charcter who developed and learnt (always good) and for most of the time he was a complete mystery to the actors in the story and viewers. He also had a past which may not seem much, but made him more alive and real.

I also loved the fact that his character was an inverted Sisko. Did anyone notice that? He had many of Sisko's qualities and traits (intelligent, calm under pressure, strong, decisive, he had a sense of humour, need I go on...) but approached life from a completely opposite direction.

  13. I can't believe that the ratios are to do with sexism. Itls possible that they are partly due to the producer's preconceptions e.g. they might want a powerful, dominating Security Officer so they will often opt for a male because a lot of people still see men as strong but silent and women to be weak but sentimental. However, in all probabiliy the ratio's are as they are simply due to the fact that the producers (or whoever makes the darn things) simply picked the actor they wanted the most, regardless of gender and they just happened to be mostly guys.

Whichever and why ever, both DS9 and VOY had powerful female characters who often eclipsed the male characters.

MAYBE there is very little sexism and it is all in your mind. MAYBE the female characters are who they are and play the characters they do because they are whom the producers wanted and acting the person the producers want them to, regardless of age. I personally thing Cmmdr Tucker is an idiotic whining doofus but I don't cry 'STOP! Sexism! They are portraying men as dribbling buffoons,' which they are clearly not doing.

As regards tertiary details e.g. the provocative catsuit Seven wears, yes these are stupid, slightly chauvinistic minor details but these do not equate to conscious sexism. Heck, I could just as easily claim that images of Archer working out in the Gym, stripped to a vest and shorts, were an underhand way to grab female audiences and that it showed that the script writers were nothing more then a bunch of backward men haters and that those images were merely a way to induce women to watch ENT.

I think these petty claims of sexist abuse should either stop or be backed up by hard evidence, instead of 'Oh she's whiney. This means they are sexist against women.' or 'Oh, she's attractive. They must think women are all vapid sex toy's.'

  14. Who is your fave character ever in Star Trek and why are they?

Mine would be Jadzia Dax of DS9. Jadzia had by far deepest character ever on Star Trek. She could be a vibrant humorus person, telling jokes and then the next minute be a wise philosopher, advising her friends. She was intelligent and her character felt far older then her age. She had an air of the almost supernatural about her and yet was completly human and down-to-earth. She was extremely brave and overcame her deepest fears and woes more then once. She was strong willed and faced adversity countless times but she was always open with her feelings. She put great store in loyalty and she was witty, friendly and very compassionate. But she also had a mean streak in her which made her more lifelike

She had deep waters of the soul yet kept a bouyant mind...

Anyhow, does anyone else have an all time favourite character?

  15. I agree with people about Kirk and Spock.

But a little special for Dax/Sisko...

I agree. Sisko's and Dax's relationship was especially deep and loving. They had build up a friendship over a lifetime. Together, they complimented the other person's character but they were different enough to infuse the friendship with humanity, mystery and energy. You knew that they were literally life-long friends. Both of their characters fitted so well with each other and they shared an almost spiritual bond. They played so well off the other person and this improved the other characters in turn.

This is also partly the reason why Jadzia Dax is my favourite character, EVER.

  16. Do you remeber what happened with Homer Simpson and his time travelling toaster....

They should have made that a full crossover Star Trek-Simpsons episode with Homer taking command of the bridge in an emergency and Bart with his skateboard racing Tom Paris and the Delta Flyer... :P

  17. I found this site through a link on the *shudder* ST.com boards...

 Now, every 2 days I post a message along the lines of this 'If you are sick of these forums and would like to join a half-way decent message board then type in

    Hope to see you there!'

I do it because I know their pain...

  18. I can't decide so I'm going to go in the middle

    Dr Who

Here's my logic on why it's in the middle...It hails from UK and it's science fiction.

    I'm assuming that's a drunken scrawl...

    remember, more :pepsi: less :wow:
