  1. You're one of the few people who believe this TM. While I don't think they are the best, I do find the first 2 seasons much better than people make them out to be. Some of my favorite episodes are from the first few seasons: 11001001, Lonely Among Us, Conspiracy, Contagion, The Royale, Time squared, Q Who?. I also want to make a mention to Shades of gray, because I feel I'm the only one who actually liked the episode.

  2. First of all: I hate "The Perfect Mate".   :)

I think Kamala might seem "perfect", but come on, she's too perfect. She'd never argue with Jean-Luc, never tell him he's wrong about an issue... she'd just always do what he wants and behave like he wants her to. This might seem perfect at the moment, but it would soon be annoying and boring for him, he needs a woman who can yell at him if it gets necessary.

(And I hope he resisted her in the end of the episode.  :)  :) )

As for "Ship In A Bottle"... I think that's an awesome episode, I love Moriarty and I'm glad they brought him back. I had to watch this episode twice to get it when they are in a holodeck and when they're out.   And this scene with Jean-Luc almost speaking directly to the camera, saying something like "maybe we're all in a little box that stands on someone's table..."  :P  I can't stop laughing everytime I see it  :)

Kamala was too perfect because that was what she was born for. Hence the title, "The Perfect Mate." Basically, she was little less than a prostitute.

  3. I doubt he wants to distance himself from Trek, he's trying to get on Enterprise now. Not to mention he is still writing Trek novels.

Last I heard his business with ENT didn't come to fruition.

  4. Last night, I decided to watch some TNG, and these were two underrated ones I saw (I also saw I, Borg, but that isn't as underrated as these two)

What are your thoughts about these two episodes. With TPM, it almost feels like this is the forgotten episode of any trek series. I used to think it was boring (Being not a fan of romantic stories) but last night, I found this episode to be a pleasing delight, not to mention kind of a subdued comedy. It was great to see Picard let down his gaurd for once, and the episode ending with the question, did he really resist Kamala or not. Very good for thought provoking. Also, this might be the most interesting relationship picard has ever had. Kamala is to die for, and it was a great preview of chemestry for Professor X and Dr. Jean Gray (Femkee Jennesen plays both Gray and Kamala.)

Also it has one of the funniest and out of character and out of character moments ever:

Picard: Can I take of my uniform off for a moment.

As for Ship in a Bottle, I'm glad they followed up on the Moriarty story, and still love the twists this episode took. This probably is the best holodeck story in trek lore, and it wasn't holodeck gone awray like other holodeck shows.

  6. NHL to lock out players Thursday

As a fan of Hockey and one who considers it his favorite sport of all the major sports in america, this is a really depressing day. I know it was bound to happen, but I was optimistic to think that maybe a mericle (Like the mericle on Ice) would happen and we would see a Hockey season this year. I can't believe these owners and players don't do a damn thing well in advance to prevent thier sport from maybe folding for good, and wait until the final day to not get anything done. I know Hockey wasn't as popular in the US as say the NFL or MLB, but this will have a more damaging impact on it's fans than the 1994 MLB strike did. I don't see the NHL recovering from this, and that is sad.

The Sharks (My favorite team) looked like they were going to be a good team this year ready to challenge for the stanley cup. They were so close last year, and it seemed like they were improving with the signing of Nabokov and other key players during the offseason. I guess that won't happen now.

    :crybaby:

  7. Personally, because everyone talks about the dominion, I find the first 3 seasons to be underrated. Yeah season one was a bit weak, but they had some great shows to introduce the characters like:

Emissary: One of the better pilots

Past Prolouge: Great show to introduce Kira

Captive Pursuit: Meany is such a great actor and I loved the themes

Vortex: Good forshadowing of Odo's story throughout the series

Dramatis Personae: The characters getting to be different roles, but keeping with their own backstories

Battle Lines/Progess: I've always found these episodes going together to make kind of a mini-arc. Kira has to start making peace with herself, and progess was the first step towards that peace.

And then you had the one two punch with Duet and In the Hands of the Prophets. Considering the other first seasons, (Except for Star Trek because I am watching that and it's first season is pretty strong) DS9 had a very strong season.

Season 2 is always a third favorite season of the series for me. We get more into the politics of Bajor with the three part circle trilogy, Cardassians, and The Collaborator. Not only that, but we get the two series maquis story arc in Maquis and Tribunal, not to mention TNG's Journey's End and Preemptive Strike. Than we get to the dominion and that's where the series starts to really become it's own, right in season 2.

Season 3 was a mixed bag, but had many great episodes, such as Defiant, Past Tense, Destiny, Through the Looking Glass and the Improbable Cause/Die is Cast two parter. It just continued the storylines from season 2 and I have no problem with that.

Season four was when the series really couldn't do anything wrong. If Season 2 the series hit it's stride, season 4 was when the series became something special. We get drama, emotion, humor, and more about the dominion with a little bit of klingon to boot.

I guess the main thing I am saying in this post is that DS9 was indeed something special.

  8. I was watching a bit of "The Inner Light" today and thinking how much backround we have in trek, not just with TNG but now with Enterprise, was Kataan a human colony that just had a run of bad luck? We know there were human colonies that were formed in ENT's era (Kataan would still be living would it not) and there were definatly some during "Star Trek's" era. Maybe this just goes with the whole why does everyone look so human in trek pet peeve, but Kataan looked too human, much more than any other race we know about.

  9. I was all ready to write off this year for the niners, but they actually didn't look all that bad yesterday. Yeah, they had 10 penalties (Still a problem) but it wasn't as bad as some games where it seemed like every other play would cause a penalty or not. I know it was only one game, but they were able to stick with Atlanta (Maybe it was Atlanta who looked bad) the whole way through and almost won. Is there hope for the niner empire this year. Maybe I was being harsh, but I will be pleasently surprised if I can be a fan with optimism this year. We shall see.

  10. The theme wasn't prostitution, it was something similar to what would occur in places like Alaska or other remote areas where mostly men would go to mine for some mineral or precious metal, women that were looking for husbands would be brought in to meet men that were looking for wives.

Now as to the ending and what it all meant, it's been several years since I've seen the episode but essentially that's correct from what I remember. The "moral" of the story was that you are what you project.

But selling women based on how they look and nothing else is the defination of protitution, is it not? These women were being sold, and made to look beautiful based on a fraud. That isn't prostitution?
