1. Man  I new this was coming this morning. After the debates last night, and I dreaded it. This is where I stand. This is a Star Trek web site. If we're going to discuss political agendas, then lets say....who would make a better federation president Picard or Kirk? Don't get me wrong, I'm a registered voter. However, if I wanted to hear about the elections I would just turn on any TV or Radio wait for the 1st commercial and hear all the ridiculous mudslinging I can get my fill of!

So let's pull together as Trek fans, stop bickering and move on toward the future we all dream of.

    Keep on Trekkin!

Oh, and I say Picard for President! He seems like the better diplomat. :)

If this is a startrek message board, than most of these forums should be shut down. No body goes into the star trek boards any more, or at least not the voyager forum, especially during the week where another DVD set came out. :P

  2. My understanding is that all political discussion has been banned from Kronos.  I don't know if they'll be allowed back after the election or not.  I understand the purpose of banning pointless mudslinging and character assassination.  But I think discussing issues (if anyone even knows what they are) would be a good idea.  Sometimes I learn something from reading a different point of view on an issue.

For example it would be impossible to discuss the best method of dealing with terrorism without mentioning President Bush.  Yet terrorism is a major factor in the political decision at least for the US.

And there is education, environment, economy etc.

It disturbs me that discussion of the decisions that will profoundly affect our lives and the quality of our future should be prohibited.  But I guess there are other boards available if you want to discuss this things.

I tend to favor Nader's view of all politicians as Republicrats.  Now if politics wasn't banned I think an interesting thread would be "Should Nader be allowed in the debates?" "Do not Address that question here"

I thought the Quo'nos forum was designed to have stuff like that. If political debate is no longer acceptible, shut down the forum. We have too many here anyway.

  3.

This is difficult. I've narrowed it down to two; TS2 and FN...

Ok I just laughed harder and nearly cried at FN so I'm going with it.

The next (and most likley last) Disney/Pixar collaboration: The Incredibles

Hopefully after The Incredibles, Pixar might go into the realm of PG-13 or even R now that they have abandoned thier relationship with Disney. This could get interesting.

  4. First of all Hallowe'en is a pagan ritual it's not satanic but it's become something else now. It's a night when children can dress up with their friends, go out and get their sweets and candy and watch the fireworks. I think it's a nice tradition, it's fun and as long as parents are there to supervise I think it should stay.

There's fireworks on Holloween. Not in my town? :P

  5. Good point. I could say when I was younger, I see some of my mom in Janeway. I only ask because what I saw janeway do, was almost what the borg do, take away ones identity and force them to join the collective. I guess it kind of bothered me that while Janeway was saying she was giving back what the borg took away, in a way she is almost as guilty as the borg themselves.

  6. *Do you consider it worth watching?

As a new fan to the show, yes I consider it worth watching. It's what started it all, and needs to be respected.

*Would you advise people new to the franchise to give it a look?

    Yes, see above

*Is it exciting or dull for a modern audience?

It's a bit of both, but the audience needs to go in with an open mind. That's what Star Trek is all about.

*Is it still the best or is it out of date rubbish that deserves to be forgotten?

I wouldn't say it's the best (I am a new fan) but it's not out of date. There are many episodes, A Taste of Armageddon, Devil in the Dark, etc, that are still relevent to this day.

*Are you a modern fan that is interested in seeing more of this show?

Yes, and I'm glad I'm buying the DVDs.

  7. Watch the end of Far Beyond the Stars. That will help explain all your questions.

I'll just start by the comment, "You are the dream, and the dreamer."

Another thing I loved about this episode is something people don't mention very much. Benny made Sisko realize how good he had it, and that he should keep going with his job. At the beginning, he was depressed about the pressure that was put on him because of the death of his friend. At the end, he is rejuvinized and has even a more pressing reason why the federation should win the war.

  8. I was pissed with the way Jadzia died. It wasn't the death itself, but more of the way it was handled. If she was going to go out, she should have gone out fighting, like she always does. And dukat's "I never ment to harm you" comment was so :P . I'm sorry, but this was the only downer to the season, and it was worse than when Tasha died.

  9. Last night I started viewing Season 4 with Scorpion, The Gift, and Day of Honor. I starting thinking about how close these episodes tie together, and 7's comment in the gift if she wanted to return to the collective.

The comment was actually a question in which seven asked if she was given free-will could she go back to the collective. She also mentioned how hypocritical Janeway was for imposing her "assemilation" on her, just as bad as the borg. Than in Day of Honor, Seven is willing to give herself up (Now as a human being mind-you) and Janeway says no.

I hadn't thought about this before, but Janeway is very hypocritical towards 7 in this season. In Pray, seven makes a choice to save the crew and herself, and Janeway punishes her for it. Talk about free will. I guess she didn't say anything about rules.

  10. I really feel for 49ers fans, I've lived through some 3-13 seasons with the Eagles. One thing to think about though, you have to go through these times in order to rebuild and right now the Niners are in that process. I don't know that the coach that they have is the right fit for that job though, I think it's going to take a new coaching staff and a good draft philosophy to get the job done.

The franchise is a winning franchise though and I would fully expect them to return to that in the next couple of seasons.

The team has been in rebuilding for the last 5+ years. It's our stupid owner and managment that are the problem.

  11. I know I originally posted this in week one, but yesterday the niners sucked. There was no offense, the defense sucked, and there was no sense of urgency. If you want to score, you don't keep running the ball right in the middle where the entire pile is. I want Dorsey to do well, but I have a feeling Rattay will be the starter this week. They really need something good to happen, because they were embarrassed yesterday. They are going to be on sunday night against the rams. They better show up.

  12. ...and what of the Federation, they have excepted the invitation of the BPG, at what point do they throw up their hands and go home? Do they stand by and watch as millions die of war, sickness, and starvation?

Also, no wormhole, no Dominion contact, thus no massacre of the Omarrian Nebula of Romulan and Cardassian forces, no Cardassian/Dominion alliance, no Dominion war.

    266704

You see why Sisko was a very important figure and why the federation weren't comfortable with him has emissary and captain.

  13. Care to elaborate? From the Cardassians? Civil war?

    266678

A bit of both. The wormhole would never be discovered (Opaka did say she can't unite her people until the prophets had been warned) the emissary would not come to be, and they would be is such disarray from the aftermath of the occupation that they probably wouldn't be able to funtion. Also, thier main culture is thier belief, and without it, they are kind of useless.

  14. Tonight, I finally was able to see Finding Nemo, a movie I have been wanting to see for the last year. After it, I was thinking, so far, which movie from pixar is truely memorable. While Finding Nemo was good and fun, I still say the Toy Story (With one coming in just below two) was Pixar's best so far. I love the theme of love, loyalty, and the music such as the great "You've Got a Friend in Me." Also I loved the tandem between Allen and Hanks.

  15. We always talk about episodes in the literal sense of the term, but Star Trek has always been a thought provoking show that there are episodes that do a great job making you think and really try to wonder what the episode is really about. I propose this thread be about the deeper meanings of the shows. What I ask is that you pick one episode (You can pick more of course) from any series and tell us what you think it means. Delve deeper into it, and really think about what the episode is really all about.

I'll start with one of my all time favorite episodes of any trek series...The Devil in the Dark. In literal terms, the title is probably talking about the Horta, but I have always had the assertion that the title isn't talking about the horta at all. What it's refering to is humanities prejudice not just to the Horta, but to things all around us. The episode starts out with this dark faceless creature and our humanity trying to survive. It ends in a direct opposite, with the Horta just trying to protect her children. This starts a working relationship and a friendship that will last forever. It's such a beautiful story and is really timely today.
