  1. I seperate this topic into 2 parts, visually and Musically.

    Musically

Based on the music, I like TNG's theme because whenever I think trek, I think of that theme song, dispite the fact that is was better done in the Movies. I like the jumpy tune, and the elegance of its feeling. However, I must say the DS9 theme is growing on me.

    Visually

If there was something the TNG theme lack was visuals however. All it had was the star feild and the ship flying through the screen. Voyager's theme on the other hand had the best visuals. From the first shot with the planet, to the ship flying through the entire segment, it was visually stunning.

  2. Damn Clip show.  I hated that.  That's all they could afford to do at the end of season 2.

Season 3 almost ended with a Clipshow I think.

Ah, no. Season 3 ended with one of the best, popular and big budgeted episodes of the time...The Best of Both Worlds. Thank god we only had one clipshow but I was carious, what if Shades of gray happened later on like in the middle of season 6 or something. Would it have been better among the fans or had the same fan reaction as it is now. I actually liked Shades of Gray, even though I would have perfered season 2 ending with Peek Performance.

  3. I really didn't like her till season six (namely Face of the Enemy). After that, she was ok (ok with a happy face, NOT ok with a "meh")

Same here. Face of the enemy was a great episode, and I thought she played the Tal Shiar agent better than her normal role.

  4. Yup, Troi was Lt. Commander and as mentioned, Lt.Commanders are almost always called Commanders. Just look at Dax, Worf, and Geordi for futher proof of that.

Also, it's pretty simple why she was on the bridge. Her empathic powers almost always were useful to Picard when encountering various species. He would routinely ask for her opinion to see if the guy/girl was hiding something, lying, or telling the truth etc. If you don't think Troi was useful on the bridge, you need to watch more TNG episodes.

Yes, actually I have seen all the episodes many many times. She was the queen of the obvious, with her "I'm senseing hostilities in them captain" speeches. It was annoying most of the time.

  5. Was Jadzia intended to be kind of like a riker character on DS9 in terms of personality? There seems to be so many similarities between the 2 such as how they were in the first season. I was watching "Battle Lines" last night and after watching season 2, Season 1 dax seems so stale and flat and boring...kind of like how Will Riker was in the first season. However, when the second season rolled around, her personality took a 180 degree turn and it was great to see.

Also, not only in personlity, but they both seem to be the guy/gal who always gets the significant other. I mean women were all over riker (I heard that he was supposed to be a Kirk like character) and the same could be said with Dax. Its going to be fun watching her development again because she is a great character and Farrel did a great job. Sucks she left though.

  6. the next trek uncut are Geordi eps..  they will be showing "The Next Phase" and "The Quality of Life" (I think) they may end up changing it so don't take my word for it check st.com  I can't wait till they get around to Bev eps.. :D

    all hail Bev!!  :D

Hopfully if they do get to bev, one of the episodes they will show is "Remember me." That is a great great uncut episode and her best performance of the series IMO.

  7. Last night I was watching "Encounter at Farpoint" and I noticed a major error I hadn't before. In the entire episode, Troi was referred to as commander, Leuitenet, and councelor. However, we find out in "Thine own Self" that she was going for her Lt. Commander test to become an offical bridge officer.

Is this a major descrepancy, or what? In this series, what was her "offical" rank if she was more than just a councelor. Also, something I am noticing more of and its something that I don't get is if she is a councelor, why is she always on the bridge and not doing Pshycology in her office or something. Another reason why her character was not necessary, dispite the fine acting by Marina Sirtis.

  8. np, ensign_beedrill. I know. I was pretty annoyed when I found out too...I guess that's what box sets are for...(although they sure are a lot more expensive)

Yes, they are expensive but if you love TNG, they are worth it. Besides, 7 disks, 26 episodes per season (22 in season 2) I don't think they were that expensive.

  9. I said DS9 because it just seems more theatrical and epic than the others. Also, with the TNG DVD's, I used to like the theme song (And still do to some extent) but I fast foward the theme. With DS9, when I hear the theme and the great visuals of the station and the warmhole, I just want to hear the theme every time.

  10. I watch this show every week and think its one of the best conceieved concepts in recent TV history. Kiefer Sutherland is an outstanding actor and really does well carrying this show.

    Click for Spoiler:

However, this season is not really as good as last season. For example, whatever happened to Sharry Palmer or Nina. They were in the show for several hours (Weeks) and than they disappear. Is sharry still in on the goverenment conspiracy with the vice president or what. I do though think it has picked up with Mike Novak's loyalties and "Kick-*buttocks*" jack getting down and dirty. I can't wait to see how the season ends.

  11. Well that clinches it, brace yourself-it's over. UNLESS....! Would TNG be TNG without Captain Picard?

Absolutly not. Patrick Stewarts portrayal of picard with his great talent was one aspect that made TNG so well done. You have no Picard and no Data. I'm sorry, but thats not TNG.

  12. From Trektoday

While in New York to promote the upcoming genre sequal X2: X-Men United this week, Patrick Stewart (Jean-Luc Picard) said he is unlikely to return to the role which made him a household name.

"I've probably said goodbye to Picard forever now," Stewart told Lisa Zlotnick at Cinema Confidential.

While there was talk of further TNG adventures if Star Trek Nemesis had done well at the box office, the film's lukewarm reception has all but ruled that out. "I think the Next Generation is over with," the actor said.

Stewart said the part of the tunic-tugging Enterprise captain has affected his chances of scoring certain types of roles. "You want to be seen as an actor, and not as somebody who can be stereotyped and written off," he told New York Newsday. According to the web site, one role Stewart was rejected for went to an actor who won an Academy Award for the part.

The actor has also had his fair share of encounters with obsessive Trek fans over the years. One incident at a performance of a Shakespeare play sorely tested Stewart's resolve. "I went on stage at the Broadhurst Theater as Prospero in The Tempest, only to find two people sitting in the front row in Starfleet uniforms, and I wanted to hurt them."

To read more from Stewart, head over to Cinema Confidential and New York Newsday. United Press International has also posted a short interview with the actor here. Thanks to 'OdoGoddess' for some of this!

This was the story. I can't say I blame him. I mean his incident with the 2 "Fans" are why I don't go to conventions. Why must people insult those who try to entertain us by being that obsessive? It almost makes me puke being a trek fan.

As with his Oscer comment, if it was him, he might not of gotten the oscer. That deserves a ;)

  13. Too bad they followed that ep up with a cheesy holodeck Vic the singer best friend, Nog wants to live in holodeck ep...lessened the meaning for me.

You know, at first I thought "Its only a Paper Moon" (The episode in question) was kind of slow and cheesy, but that was before I saw ar-558. I actually got a respect for that episode because it showed the impact war has on the soul. Nog couldn't stand being weak in the outside world and his escape for rehabilitation was with Vic (Who seemed more like a councellor than Ezri ever will be) in the holodeck. I don't think it was cheesy, but it gave Seige more meaning IMO of course.

  14. Great question Dan (welcome to the boards by the way)

What I looked for in my favorite episode was a combination of story (How true to the premise of this series, which was to explore and seek out new life, it was) and character development. Its hard for me to choose a "Favorite" episode because there were so many, but one of my favorites was the 5th season episode Darmok. This episode, its story, the characters, everything about it, is what star trek is about. The character interaction between Picard and Dathon (Paul Windfeild did a marvalous performance) was great, and the story about communication is trek at its best. Not only that, but you also get a connection to the Epic of Gilgamesh which is one of the things TNG did best, connect our culture and its impact to that of the 24th century.

  15. Didn't they try to do something like that with Ted Williams or is Chryonics and Chryogenics two different things. I Remember reading in the news after williams died that they were going to freeze him to perserve the DNA and than at a later date they would revive him.

Anyway, to your question, with all the crazy Ideas around today, I wouldn't be surprised if something like that was possibile. However I wouldn't want to do that because if I die, my life is over. Besides as a catholic, I shouldn't really believe in that.

  16. I just recently saw this episode and couldn't beleive how great it was. For the first time, I actually felt sympathetic to the people who were killed. I mean in all of trek when someone dies, its usually an extra and they don't really make a big deal about it, but this episode did such a brilliant job making that a key issue. It was a great how this episode really showed the brutalities of war. I think this episode could be summed up by the final dialouge:

    Kira: Thats alot of names

Sisko: There not just names Kira...we have to remember that, we must always remember.

  17. I voted for the ST films because they are higher in quality than the TNG films. TNG only has one good movie and that is First contact. The rest are mostly just ok but don't have the quality, passion, or brilliance of the others. ST on the other had does with gems like TWOK, TVH, and my favorite TUC.

Also, the characters for the original seem to pay more homage to who they were in the series than the TNG characters. For TNG, it seems that most of them (Picard, Data to name a few) are out of character, and that takes away from a great Television show. The ST characters were portrayed the same way in both which if you want to do a movie from a TV series, thats the way to go. Heck, even The Final Frontier (A movie I actually like) had themes that respected the series like the big 3 and their bond.

After seeing ST-6 in theaters for the first time, did you think that was the end of the Star Trek movies? How did you feel when you heard there would be a new group of movies based on TNG?

This is in response to Picard's question. Yes, I really wanted TUC to be the last film. It's ending made it seem like it was going to be the last film and walking out of the theater, I said if the writers are smart, they will stick to just TV series. When I heard they were going to go with TNG, I had doubts but I went into it with an open mind. However, with the mediocureness of both Nemesis and Insurrection, I really do wish they ended the movies with 6.
