  1. What I mean is, did you enjoy the Dominion War or would you have liked to have seen DS9 do something different? I thought a War was the only way for DS9 to go as this was the tougher series. After the bright campness of TOS and TNG (The flying hotel with kiddies and bright outfits) DS9 was darker and harder. There was more conflict in the air and more grit. A war was perfect as it added to this.

I used to answer this question with a no, but looking back on it and being that I am older, yes I am glad DS9 went this way. I don't know if it was Michael Pillar or Ira Behr who said this on the special features of Season 2 DVD's, but one of them said that if trek was not unique and new, than it would die. Its turning out that with ENT, they were exactly right. DS9, like its 2 predassessors were unique and new. It was exciting to watch it every week and with the War with the dominion, it showd that Gene's vision was still there, but it showed what happens when that vision is threatened. My favorite series continues to be TNG mainly because it was the series that made me a trekker, the stories and priceless, and its a great cast, but DS9 is right up along side as being a great series mainly because of its uniqueness.

  2. I know I am in a minority when I say this but I actually liked The Final Frontier. Yeah, it had many plot holes, and some bad plot, but why I liked it was because of the theme of friendship and family that was throughout this movie. I mean at the beginning and the end, you have Kirk, spock, and Mccoy around the campfire just hanging out with one another. You have great dialouge that really touch the theme of family like when Kirk says "I knew I wouldn't die because the 2 of you were with me."

Its this theme that really does the entire movie for me. Also, it does have some fun moments like scotty's "I know this ship like the back of my head...CLONCK" scene, and the scene when the Enterprise first enter the barrier.

If I had to choose the worst film, it would probably be The Search for Spock. I found it boring and dull.

  3. This week's time travel bonus treks are "Relics" and "Cause and Effect".  I'm really looking forward to this.  I like both episodes but "Cause and Effect" is one of my daughter's favourites.

I am hoping that because now they are going for "Trek uncut" on friday nights that they will add some two parters (Like maybe next month have Best of Both Worlds, Chain of Command, Times Arrow, or maybe Redemption) to the mix of uncut.

Of course this is all irrelevent because I can watch these episodes anytime on DVD, but for those who don't have the DVD's it would be night. :tear:

  4. Favorite episode from each season becasue its hard to name just one:

    Season 1: Conspiracy

    Season 2: Contagion

Season 3: The Defector (It does change depending on the mood)

    Season 4: The Drumhead

    Season 5: Power Play

    Season 6: Chain of Command

    Season 7: All Good Things...

  5. Yes, very good explanation, I would only add the reason the Founders do things the way they do is because of a time when they were prejudiced against by every "Solid" species they encountered and became sick of it.

    EDIT:

One question I felt was never addressed (or I missed seeing) was why did the Founders send out individuals like Odo in the first place?

It was a way to learn there enemy. Ever wonder why Odo had a big desire to get home? Thats what the founders wanted, some shapeshifters to spy on the solids and then come home and share the information they recieved. Odo was different though because he was much like worf, living his life among solids and getting used to them and there compassion.

  6. i agree, hooshi is definitely not the right kind of woman for Trip.. He needs someone more interesting, someone adventurés, someone he really needs to explore.. thats why someone of a different race would be perfect, just like T'Pol!

What about Hoshi and Reed. From episodes like Silent Enemy, and Sleeping Dogs, they do have good chemistry together. I hope the writers revisit that in the future, just like I hope they revisit the whole working relationship with Hoshi and T'pol from last year.

  7. Voyager lost its soul when Kes was kicked out.

Kes was a great character. She was beautiful, nice and friendly but also brave, strong-willed, curious and determined. What more can you ask for? She personified the spirit of Star Trek. And Jennifer Lien is an excellent actress.

Seven, on the other hand was a one-dimensional character. She was brought in as a "sex symbol" to attract tenage kids who normally didn't watch the show and she was made the big star of the show with all episodes concentrated on her. I found her rather boring and the way The Idiots In Charge pushed her down our throats by focusing everything on her while the other characters were reduced to nothing but moving images in the background was sickening.

If they absolutely had to bring in a new character they could at least have kept all the original characters. But TIIC were to stupid, narrow-minded and greedy to figure out such a solution.

Instead they had to kick out Kes in that crappy episode "The Gift" and later they insulted all the Kes fans by ruining the character in "Fury".

Voyager died when Kes was kicked out and the way Jennifer Lien and the character Kes was treated is nothing but a shame and disgust for Star trek and Paramount.

I pretty much agree with everything you said Lynx.

7 of 9 was only a good character in season 4 when she was fresh and new. However, most of the weeks the episodes were just about her and her struggle for humanity. Sorry, but I have already seen that theme in Data for TNG, and they new how to do it correctly. With 7, all she really became was a one-dementional sex-symbol with no emotion, passion, or anything new to offer to the series. I have seen Jeri Ryan in other shows or interveiws and she has a great personality. I think the biggest mistake for the character was the fact that ryan had a great personality and was not allowed to bring that to the screen. I probably would have liked her much more.

Also, the addition of 7 of 9 ended up pushing great characters with potential to the side like Kim, or my favorite, Chakotay. In the first 4 seasons, every one in the cast was equally involved in an episode, and some of the story arcs/or one stories that involved these characters were really well done like the Seska/Kazon arc. Every week, it was fun watching voyager but with 7, and when Kes (Who I actually liked because) left, the show lost something it had at the start and became boring.

  9. From what I have seen, these are really great boards. Props to the admin/moderators for getting a great board like this online. I can't wait to hopfully be more part of the community. Also, great spoiler feature. I just tried it, and now I think every message board on the Internet should have it. Its cool.

I do have one complaint though. What I finish reading a post, the insignia doesn't turn white when I go back to the main page. I heard it was a bug, so hopfully its a bug that will be sqashed soon.

  10. I picked four episodes from both seasons and tried to pick those for which I had seen a lot of complaints or no mention whatsoever.

I voted for a Night in Sickbay.  What little plot this episode had was best suited for one of UPN's sitcoms rather than a drama that is supposed to be for mature people.

How could you choose Vox Sola as worst episode instead of Acquisition or Rouge Planet. Vox Sola was one of the top episodes of that season.

Anyway, I voted for A Night in Sickbay. For season 1, It has to go to that stupid excuse for an episode (Which ended up being just flat out embarrassing) Acquisition.

  11. The only mention of the Dominion Wars in the TNG movies that I can think of was at the beginning of Insurrection.  Picard was talking about all of the diplomatic missions the Enterprise-E was being sent on because the diplomatic corp was busy with Dominion negotiations.  Later in the movie Ruafo mentions the Dominion when talking to the Admiral but only as part of list of enemies that the Federation had done battle with lately.  I can't think of any reference in Generations or First Contact.

    Click for Spoiler:

There was also a mention of the Dominion in Nemesis

I wasn't sure if you have seen the movie so I put the spoiler warning just in case.

  12. I put Man of the People cuz she gets Frisly wit Riker.. but i CANNOT believe u FORGOT 'SECOND CHANCES!!!!!!!!' OMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

How was Second Chances a "Troi" episode?

Second Chances was a troi episode because it was her who got caught in the middle of the 2 rikers. It also had very nice development on how the 2 of them met and fell in love in the first place.
