It was a toss up...Generations may have made a better TV movie...but, then again maybe it was better on the screen we all saw it on. I saw it on Sci-Fi a few times, and let me tell you...it is a heck of a lot better on DVD and when I saw it at the theater(Generations is last on my TNG movie list)
And as much as I love Data, there are still times I just want to loudly say "Enough already!" I know he was just figuring out emotions....but he needed to take a break now and then!!(Like the scene in Stellar Cartography....that was an excellent scene!!,,,,Nah! I would never yell at/about him like that--the "Enough already!" part...couldn't make me...even with the scene in the Observatory)

Yeah...in moderation only....

THank you thank you thank you Prometheus!!! (I was gonna post this, but you beat me to it
)And ooooh no he wouldn't have, crims! he looks darn good in a red uniform

Just out of question, when was he in green?
Anyways, to answer the question, I think the only possible reason is discrmination. EVERY SINGLE person (with the exception of Tasha who left before the first season was up, for goodness sakes) got promoted before him! Even "ensign" Ro, who wasn't even a regular character! Aside from what you've already said that he was a stellar member of hte crew, was not any easier to be taken over than any one else, and had proved himslef worthy on numerous occasions (worthy of CAPTAIN!! Which is not one but two ranks higher than what he was! Which proves how ready he was to move on to 1st officer), and the fact that I would feel very comfortable with someone like Data in the captain's chair (aside from the fact that he's Data and everything else said so far
, it would also be very useful to have someone with his abilities and ability to gain more abilities and who is so kind, gentle and good-looking B) dealing with the things a captain would have to deal with, NOT TO MENTION the fact that half the time an alien took over the ship, he was the ONLY ONE it didn't affect and HE had to save the crew!!)I don't think it was his fault he wasn't promoted. For example, in Redemption (I think it was) he was a little put off that he wasn't given temporary captaincy (or whatever it's called) of a ship. I think he DID want to be captain, although, like Riker, he might not have WANTED to leave the Enterprise. My problem is that he was never even offered!!
grrrSee, this is what happens when you get me started! Don't say I didn't warn you!!

Didn't I warn everyone?!?!?! I told you not to get the Sisters started...and did you listen...noooo, "Don't listen to little old Yillara". I think ~Crims~ was referring to his GOLD uniform when he said green. And I think that Starfleet wanted to hold him back..ambition or not...and we all know Riker really got into the defending Maddox's point of view in "Measure of Man"! Too into it I think(he said he started to believe what he was saying!)

plot device, of course. But one could argue that, as stated in Brothers, because Lore was made from sub-standard parts, there was more likely to be a small malfunction like that...I agree...with both malfunction and plot device. (OK, I am glad he got rid of it because it was annoying too!!!)

Having someone scream in space(without them wearing a space suit) would bug me to no end if I were to see that in a movie or TV show! you are serious about taht aren't you ensign beedrill?Serious about it bugging me? Yeah! I mean, I can accept it all the same... I know it's not real... but still. Sound doesn't travel in space. I think it would have been funnier if the doctor started screaming but we didn't hear his voice. I don't know. Maybe I have a strange sense of humor. But the no spacesuit part didn't bother me. He's a hologram... he doesn't need one.
No, I knew it bugged you...I have never seen much of Voyager...so I didn't know if he REALLY was in space without a spacesuit and screaming(making actual audible noises)....That would definately drive me nuts!! He should be screaming...and not having anything come out, it would have been more funny than probably was intended...but it would have made more sense!

I loved Measure of Man, though I would probably vote for The Offspring still.

You do know I was kidding, right??? I thought how you altered it was very funny!!!

Thanks Everybody!OMG!! Are there really other FEMALE Trek fans here??? I was convinced I was the only one!
I already think I'm gonna like this place lots better than the st.com boards!
Yup, we've got quite a few women here (including me).

Definately there are female Trek fans(I am another one)! I have been a Trek fan since I was 7....that is 16 years now!!!
And if you have a particular character that you really like....don't be afraid to speak... THere are large fan bases for majority of the characters...
I am Yillara Soong, one of the Soong Sisters...we used to be over at ST.com, but came here to be rid of the spam, and the harsh environment that was ST.com. There is sooo much to post about here....it could take a day just to read them all(One of the reasons this site is so great)....and it is relatively easy to learn all that is needed to post on this board! Mainly because of the friendliness of all of the moderators!
And as VBG said....I think there are more girls here than guys right now....

The Evil Trio on Buffy the Vampire slayer kept making references to Star Trek(especially TNG) all the time.

I have a photo album of my pictures of Data,(ok so there are also a couple pictures of Brent, Lore, B4, Dr. Soong, and Dr. Tainer, as well as the enitre crew...) I have three dolls of Data (Nemesis, Insurrection, and Generations), I have a one of Geordi(Generations). I have several novels(used to have ALL of the TNG ones, but I now only have my favorites with me). I have the First Contact and Nemesis posters on my wall...
-
Yeah, my brother has Phantom Menace on DVD...tell us where! tell us where!!!
-
and having to come from Georgia (me), Florida (Yillara) and Canada (Takara and Dsbs) i think the cheaper rates of a non-CON time woulb be better, but i think Takara and i can get into trouble no matter what else is going on.
Exactly...I can maybe save up enought to go and stay there a couple of nights...but I have to see what the new year brings....I WANNA GO....Why can't we have a 24th century economy now!?!?!? I WANNA GO but I can't even afford a new cheap used car! Or a season DVD boxed set of TNG yet!!!
-
Well Shades of Grey is my main episode I didn't like....and don't kill me here...."The Inner Light" is really boring to me **snore!**!
There really isn't too many episodes that bother me...more like certain scenes or certain characters that I don't like(MADDOX FOR ONE!!! B)

Just was looking through the library over at ST.com and then noticed your thread...Next to USS Grissom you have ??? as part of the registry number, there are two according to the library...NCC-638 and NCC-59314, which one were you meaning??
And I believe the rest of the Equinox's registry is 381, so it should read 72381.

Congratulations gdog243!!!
-
OMG, that is so...rotten!I think a nice get away to anything Tek would be great, but to met all of you and see Trek stuff...isn't that what would be in heaven?

Hey, that does sound like a good idea.....now to afford the trip there, maybe next summer could eventually be a reality. VBG, the convention would be cool!!!

"Resistance Is Futile"--I think I liked it said by Data best of all (and no, not just because I love him!!). Just the way he said it was so darned good, we all saw he took the Borg by surprise...as well as Picard!!
-
Or during "Parts:The Clonus Horror" as the clone man is running away people are shooting at him..."Pssht" "Ow", "Pssht" "Ow"
Or During "Jack Frost"---"Oh look she's eating her hemlock lolipop!", or all the Russo-Finnish jokes.
Or the....well pretty much all of the Delta Knights one!!
-
I though the episode "relics" was great because both Scotty and Geordi were there....I loved the way they clashed at first but ultimately worked together to solve the crisis!
-
FunniestTHE NAKED NOW!!!!!
OMG DEANNA/WILL DATA?TASHA... my god... those were howlz
I can't believe I left out The Naked Now. I always howl with that episode.
Well it is funny until a certain scene that irks at least THIS Soong Sister....Maybe I am going a little overboard when I say I would just loved to slap the crap out of Tasha for what she said!!

OK, so that is enough pictures for now.....
"Bring out your dead"...
..............."I'm not dead yet"

Just to be curious, has anyone seen this series from start to finish...Myself, I think I have caught at least the LAST three seasons.....
-
usually sour cream OR cheese.
still working around food all the time...it a shock that i can still get into my jeans from last year!

My mom used to work at our family's bakery(well, until I was about 9 or 10), she used to joke to friends that just walking into the store and SMELLING the food could make you gain pounds!! I mean they KNEW she was joking, but with the way my grandfather baked donuts and pastries....it was a little difficult to NOT eat at least one donut, cookie, cake slice, eclair or hamburger roll(the last two being the ones I liked the most!!) -
I haven't seen them in concert but during the first week that I worked at Calgary's Olympic Saddledome (or whatever it's called now) they were performing that evening and I got to see their afternoon soundcheck.Oh, this is so not fair...darn I still really want to catch them in concert before they decide to stop touring....
