  1. At the moment, I do plan to be there and I think I can get y company to pay for all the travel expenses.  We have a branch studio in Vegas and I can probably write the whole trip off if I work it right.

    We are the geeeeeks

    We are the trekkieeeees....

Pocket Books has released images of the cover art and a synopsis of the forthcoming Enterprise novel Daedalus, to be released as a mass market paperback in October 2003.

As Psi Phi reports, the book will be written by Dave Stern, who previously penned the Enterprise novel What Price Honor?.

Daedalus begins in 2140 to witness Starfleet's preparations for the maiden voyage of its first warp 5 capable vessel. On the verge of the launch, Trip Tucker discovers a flaw in the design of Daedalus. Though Tucker's fears are put to rest, the launch of the new ship ends in catastrophe.

More than ten years later, Tucker has nearly put those events behind him when he becomes the chief engineer on Enterprise. Then a freak explosion forces him to relive the past once more.

  4. The only episode that even closely resembles this "single sex" episode you speak of is "The Outcast". That race wasn't single sex, they were androgynous (having the characteristics or nature of both male and female).

Here's a line from the synopsis:

While investigating the disappearance of a J'naii shuttlecraft, the crew finds reason to believe the missing ship is stranded in an abnormal pocket called "null space." Riker and Soren, a member of the J'naii race, begin preparing to rescue the craft, and the two strike up a friendship. Their relationship develops quickly as the pair question each other about mating habits, since the J'naii are androgynous and do not identify themselves as either male or female. Despite this difference, sparks begin to fly between them.

So they weren't "single sex". Also asexual reproduction is possible in some instances. I can't give a specific example off the top of my head but I'm willing to bet someone here can.

Anyway, my belief is this (and this is from the bible) "Judge not lest ye be judged". So my personal feelings on homosexuality may be one thing but I don't judge a homosexual person simply because it's not my place to pass Judgement.

  5. I myself am interested in the break down. I've always heard that Trek is a "Guy" thing, you know the stereo type, nerdy guy with no life that can't get a date... that starts a message boar...oh wait, that doesn't sound good for me...

Seriously though, Star Trek is stereo typed as a Guy show and I know from personal knowledge that many many of the female gender are just as into the show as most guys.

I found this quote somewhat amusing, it's usually the guys saying "I wish I could find a girl into Trek" lol

I wish I could find a Trekkie man!

  6. Well, it's Vegas so there's a lot to do that's Non-Trek. Gambling, shows and just general sight seeing. Once a date is hashed out we'll be able to see what shows are taking place at that time. We'll also start working on what activities we'll be doing and how long those would last so everyone would know how long to expect to be "busy" lol.

  7. This is just a poll so we can get an idea of what we need to plan for and begin making preparations.

The convention is going to be held at the Las Vegas Hilton in the summer of 2004.

Some of the planned events would be the Star Trek: The Experience attraction, dinner at Quarks bar and Episode screenings/discussions during the convention.

The details are still being worked out and We'll post here when more details are available.

Vote now so we can refine the details and if you have any questions or suggestions feel free to post them here as well.

Here's a couple links to give you an idea of what to expect:

    Star Trek: The Experience

  8. For anyone that hasn't gone into your profile and filled out some of the information, I'd like everyone to go and put your birthday in. If you don't want to give the year that's ok. Just use 1900 or 2003 or something like that instead of the real year if that's the case.

This way we can all give you a Birthday greeting on your birthday.

If you don't want to do that it's ok too.

  9. I'll start a poll soon with some of the details we have discussed so far. The poll will give us a general idea about who will try to make it, who will be there no matter what and who doesn't plan on going one way or the other.

It'll also help for the coming months for new members that haven't joined yet.

  10. It would be only for STARTREKFANS.NET members and their families. If someone wanted to bring a friend or 2 that would be ok too, just as long as non-members are with or sponsored by a member.

My hope in announcing this as far in advance as we have is that it will provide everyone enough time to start saving for the trip.

For anyone not able to attend though we may try to work something out where we are online for at least some time during one of the events.

Also, if all goes well and we continue to grow then we'll likely do it again the following year (2005).
