Ever wonder what was REALLY in Hanger 18? Was it REALLY a weather ballon or was it actaully an alien spacecraft? Watch "Little Green Men" and learn the truth of what happened in Roswell in 1947.
Cousin Gaila gives Quark a shuttle craft he has owed him for ten years and Quark, being the generous Uncle that he is decides to fly Nog to Earth where Nog is scheduled to attend Starfleet Academy. What could go wrong? Watch Quark, Nog and Rom along with an unexpected travel guest as they accidentially fly right into the heart of Cold War Earth.
A mishap sends Quark, Rom, and Nog back in time to Earth of 1947 in Roswell, New Mexico, where military forces mistake them for alien invaders.
Quark is excited to receive a shuttle his cousin Gaila has owed him for ten years, and decides to use it to fly Nog to Starfleet Academy on Earth — while doing a little smuggling on the side. But, just as the shuttle enters Earth's system, Rom is unable to take the ship out of warp, and realizes that the spiteful Gaila designed the ship to malfunction. Luckily, Rom figures out how to stop the ship and make an emergency landing. However, when the three travelers wake up after the crash, they find themselves in an examining room — in July 1947 at Roswell, New Mexico.
Outside the room, a team of United States military and science personnel has assembled, including General Denning, Captain Wainwright, Professor Carlson, Nurse Garland, two M.P.s, and a German shepherd. The group observes the Ferengi trio, who they believe to be Martians, then enter the room and attempt to communicate. Unfortunately, none of the three can either understand or talk back, since their universal translators were damaged in the crash. Realizing, however, that these are primitive humans, Quark smells profit. While Carlson and Garland observe the aliens, Rom manages to convey to the nurse that he wants her hairpin, then uses it to work on the translators. Garland then summons the others — Quark is speaking English, and he has a business proposition for them!
Quark explains the translator to his stunned hosts, then offers to sell them advanced technology. However, the suspicious General Denning demands that Quark tell him why they are really on Earth. Quark insists they have come to do business, if not with the Americans, then with the Russians. Later , when the three are alone again, Quark watches with surprise when the dog suddenly morphs into Odo, who stowed away on the shuttle to catch Quark smuggling. Odo tells the group where their ship is hidden, but Quark doesn't want to leave. He's sure he can manipulate the primitive humans and become Earth's ruler, caring nothing about how he would alter history as a result. But Quark's thoughts of conquest are put on hold when he, Rom, and Nog are forcefully taken to an interrogation room.
Quark is repeatedly injected with truth serum, but it doesn't work on the Ferengi. Nog then steps in and claims they are the first of an invasion fleet that has come to take over Earth. He gets Captain Wainwright to untie him and uses the opportunity to deck his captor. Carlson and Garland, not pleased with the treatment of the aliens, step in to help them escape and return to their ship. When General Denning tries to stop them, Odo appears to save the day, and the group takes off. They use an atom bomb test blast to help send the ship back to their present, and are able to drop off Nog at Starfleet Academy after all.

well, even though i would be annoyed with VBG if ibet him and he 'altered' the state of the bet, it really was worded that way. looks like VBG found a loop-hole. lol(man that was a tough post to word. if i make any of the moderators mad with me i could get booted. lol.
B)
)LOL The bet was made with that Loop-hole in mind right from the start, one thing I've learned over the years... only bet the "sure thing"

I find myself on this thread just listening to the music

VBG =
I seem to recall a time when I joked about passing you in the post totals and you then changed your post total so that the first number was a 2 instead of a zero so you briefly had over 20,000 posts.

Me?? I would never do such a thing...
 -
Yes, it is AIM so you need to have AIM on your computer to use it. It's a free download at http://www.aim.com. Just download it and install it then when you click on the chat link AIM comes on and takes you to our room.

LOL Well the fact of the matter was that the Post count did reach 500+, just like the bet stated. It was never said that she would actually post 500+ times, the tricky part of the matter was just a matter of how it would reached 500+.
What it all boils down to though was that the whole thing was just us joking around with eachother.
For those that may not know this, Amy (Luvin1stdegree) is new to the universe of Trekdom. Truth be told if you had bet her a year ago that she would be a member of a Star Trek fans message board she would have likely bet you anything that it would never happen in a million years and if you added to the bet that she would actually be watching the show and liking it she would have doubled the bet. The kicker would have been if you had bet her that she would not only be planning on going to but also helping to organize a Star Trek convention she would have called an ambulance for you at that time on the spot because she would say you were not only a danger to yourself but to the public in general.
Face it Amy, you are a Trekker now for life!

Here's a funny story that has to do with the wording of bets.
About 10 years ago I was at work and bet one of my co-workers that I could tell him the score of the next days Eagles-Giants game before it starts. He was a Giants fan and I am an Eagles fan.
This guy took the bait and was eager to bet me, I set eht bet amount at 1 months pay. Still eager to bet, figuring I was unable to look into the future he bet me (In front of about 25 people).
After we shook hands he shot back with the question "So what's the score going to be 'Swammy'?!?!? " and my response was "The score of tomorrows Giants-Eagles game, before it starts, will be 0-0". He never did pay up even though I won the bet and told him the score of the game before it started. It was only a joke bet of course and I wouldn't have expected him to pay up.
The moral of the story is, Be sure you understand the bet before entering into it
 -
Common sense dictates that the 500 mark would be reached through my own efforts, not yours. Is anyone else with me???????VBG, I realize you aren't going to let me win this one....as always, I am left shaking my head in frustration!!! LMAO

Although I'm with you on this one luvin1stdegree, saying so just may get me be banned from the boards. I think VBG owes you a public apology.

You're right UhuraRiker, you miss a lot when you go to bed early. You are also right about the avatars. At first I thought VBG had developed a multiple personality disorder.

Banned!
 B)
So if I understand correctly, the feeling is that the wording of a bet doesn't really matter. It's what the person betting thinks the bet should be?
I'll have to keep that in mind next time I bet on a football game....
"But I thought I was betting that my team would lose, so shouldn't I win the bet since they did lose the game?" :(

I just want to post another reminder that if you reach promotion level and an announcement is not posted, please PM me or one of the other Mods so we can post the announcement.
With over 200 members now it's becoming difficult for me to keep track of everyones rank and promotion status.

You have been promoted to Lieutenant, great going! Keep it up! -
You have been promoted to Lt. Commander! Great going, keep up the great posts! -
The basic rate for a 2 night 3 day stay at the Hilton looks to be $150.42, this would be a rate given for an individual making reservations on their own and not through a group and includes costs for the Star Trek Experience.
In the next few days or weeks I hope to have a more solid rate available, I'll post it as soon as I have it.
Keep in mind that all amounts are estimated at this point and should only be used the give a rough estimate of possible costs.

I too don't want to see any crew member "get it", not even Porthos. I'm a dog lover

-
LMAO The bet was that you would reach 500+, not HOW you would reach it...

Remember "He-Man"?
I HAVE THE POWER

P.S. to all those that are now confused... we bet she would reach 500+, she said: "Finally a chance to be right for once and prove you wrong, I just won't post". Well, little did she know that when she was saying that she was already at 509
BTW I put it back to where it was to begin with (but not before setting it to 5090 lol)
-
Ok well my personal knowledge of bets is this, if person A bets Person B that Person B will "reach 500+" on the post count then the bet is that the post count will be 500+. Not that Person B will post 500+ postings. Now if it so happens that Person A has the ability to change Person B's post count manually and the said post count jumps from 25 to 509 then person A wins the bet. The bet simply in this example was that Person Bs post count would reach 500+, there was no mention of How it would reach 500+. Therefore there was no cheating in this example...

VaBeachGuy and I were talking about the trip last night. He told me (and I told him to post this! UGGGGHHH...he NEVER listens to me!) that he is planning for June of 2004. I thought knowing the month may help people decide/plan vacations, time off work, etc.LOL yes she did tell me to post it, I didn't post it yet because I was waiting till I spoke with the Hilton to see what the best time frame would be, reservation wise.
But June is my plan for the moment.

Well bysty there's a lot of time between now and next summer. Maybe by then they will be ready for a trip to Vegas themselves. You never know. Hold out hope and if it doesn't work then maybe the following year (you'll be 18 then right?). Our hope is to try to make this a yearly thing, that'll depend on how well this first one goes though.
