Kyra_Ashleigh's Personal Log...

Recommended Posts

Just think of just one month out of the year.

The first two weeks are fine... you're having a good time since you'e so busy that your shift is over before you know it. Then you start getting worn out... and the customers get less and less friendly the closer you get to the holiday. Some days you just wanna :look:

Log for today...

I'm working on my holiday shopping a bit. I got a gift for one of my friends for an online gift exchange this evening and a few cool things for my daughter. I got my younger two cousins' gifts on Friday night. Now I only have to buy for my Aunts and Uncles, the rest of my cousins, my Grandpa, Hubby, my best friend, more stuff for kiddo... and I'm hoping against hope I can come up with enough money to buy myself a new digital camera. Holidays are a drag when your camera is broken and you miss out on capturing so much! :look:

But I am *not* taking out a small loan to pay for Christmas this year! My family understands... at least I hope they do! :frusty:

I am glad that I don't wait until the last minute to go Chirstmas shopping. I do it all year. That may should odd, but I have a large growing family. I can't afford to buy all the gifts in one month. It is also a shame that some people forget why we have a Chirstmas in the first place. I hope He can forgive them when they forget.

I don't buy gifts early because I'd put them in a "safe" place and never find them again! I've also found that the kids in my family tend to outgrow gifts really fast, so I have to try and get them something that's "cool" right now. :frusty:

What you've said about the holiday is very true. I'm not a highly religious person, but the spirit of love and caring is lost by so many people when they are caught up in the rush of things. It's so sad to see people pushing in line to mail their packages or fighting over the last sale item in the department stores.

Another day! :look:

I had a pretty busy but fun workday today. We got our load of cookies to ship for a customer account of ours... only 75 boxes to go and that project is complete!

Tomarrow I'm the opening manager, which means I have to deal with the front door of doom. Our front door has an issue with the hinges, which puts a ton of weight on the lock and makes it near-impossible to lock or unlock it. I am taking along our handy "front-door jack" (read:screwdriver) tomarrow in the hopes that I don't have to enter through the side door, lift the gate and then madly run to the keypad in hopes that the alarm won't go off!

I like my job alot. In fact, it's things like this that somehow make my days more interesting! :frusty:

I think we had packages stacked to the ceiling at one point today... imagine a 9 foot cubed stack of packages resembing a Borg cube! The bonus to this is that when we get a large stack of boxes going, we call UPS and they send us many cute drivers in little brown shorts to pick up all the boxes! :look: :blush 2: :look:

Before joining the Navy I used to work at Subway. I also love the cute UPS workers and their brown shorts when they came to the store. :look::frusty:

I work for a UPS Store franchise. We're spoiled when it comes to UPS drivers... we get several a day. :nono::nono:

I obtained a *thwacking* stick for work the other day. I'm not sure where it came from, but between that and the "customer lasso," things will hopefully be under control for the holiday rush! B) B)

But serously...

The guys I work with are making me mad. They're good kids when I'm working with one or the other, but if these two guys get together, they get crazy and annoying really quick. They were playing "baseball" in the store this evening and I had to tell them to chill out. After that got no response, I offered to let them go outside and play for a while... they got all upset that I had told them to go play in traffic even though I didn't really say that! B)

I really don't mind them blowing off some steam... but baseball in the store isn't exactly a good idea... which is why I offered to let them go outside and run off some energy. Sheesh.

Does anyone know why guys in their early 20's are so annoying? B)

Other than the fact that my coworkers are getting on my nerves, things are pretty good at work.

Here's a good story about some of the weirdness that goes on in my workplace:

I work at a UPS Store franchise during the day and we get some interesting questions. It's very common that we get mistaken for UPS Corporate, which is an entirely different company and our customers tend to raise hell if we say they have to go directly to UPS for something.

So often we get people bringing in packages that were mis-delivered to their houses thinking we can deliver them to the proper person. (notice the lack of big brown trucks outside? B) ) Now if we were to take these packages back, they'd get picked up by our driver, taken back to the warehouse, put back on the truck that originally delivered them and those boxes would end up in the same place the next day. So we don't take that stuff.

A lady came in today to tell us that UPS had delivered a large box to her home and that it wasn't addressed to her. So she wanted us to send a driver over to get it. I explained to her that we weren't UPS Corporate, but she didn't seem to understand... she kept going on and on about how she didn't have time to call the 800-number and tell them to come get the darn box. To top it off, she didn't even have the box with her (and I would have probably taken it just to get her out of my hair at that point). So I told her I would ask our driver if he could page the driver on her route to go get it, but it was unlikely that it could be done. Of couse, when our driver showed up, he said the same thing, so I called her back and told her she needed to call the darn 800-number. So she blatantly told me if I couldn't send her a UPS driver that she was keeping the box! B) B)

Umm... okay lady, so you're going to take something that isn't yours because you can't spare five minutes of your time? After all, she went to the trouble of DRIVING to our store without the package to tell us about it... what's the logic? B)

I love working with people, but some of them really make you wonder. I mean, it's not about getting the package to the right person (hell, I would have just taken it there myself... it was one her neighbors)... it's all about that five minutes you're going to spend doing the right thing. That's what gets me down about my job this time of year... people are supposed to be all about love and caring and all that, but when it comes to doing something that would help another person out, all bets are off.

Anyway, that's my rant of the day. Hopefully we're busy tomarrow so the obnoxious few customers will be pushed through the line fast enough that none of them manage to give me any more doubts about human nature. B)

I am sooooo busted. :blush 2:

First, I got in trouble at work today for overstaying my shift yesterday. Then I just offered to fix the webcam of our cute UPS driver... I doubt he'll take me up on the offer, but if word gets around, people will start talking about me having a crush on him! :blush 2:

So, here's the deal for the folks that don't know me too well. I have been seperated from my hubby since the summer and we are proceeding with the divorce as I type.

I started thinking lately that since it doesn't look as if hubby's going to seek treatment for his bipolar disorder, that I might as well get back into the dating pool. I haven't so much as bothered to tell more than a few friends and family abou the pending divorce because I'm a rather private person and I don't like getting all the false pity and useless advice.

So, nobody but a select few people know that I'm semi-single at the moment... nor has anyone known how long the divorce process has gone on thus far.

I've known this particular UPS driver for four years and counting and I've had a minor crush on him the whole time. No worries there... thinking someone has nice legs is a ar cry from cheating in my book. But since the divorce has been going on, a part of me has been telling me to ask him out. I'm too chicken too be up front about it... after all, I have been facing the biggest rejection of my life here... the last thing I want to do is get rejected on the rebound.

I've always been the kind of person who is oblivious to flirting, so I have no idea if this guy is just being friendly with me or if he *may* be interested. Besides, I'm still wearing the ring because it's stuck on my darn finger so I doubt he even realizes I'm interested in being more than friends. :flex:

(I feel like a soap opera here and i know a lot of people will tell me it's wrong to even consider dating when the divorce isn't near final yet... the court date is next summer unless we come to a friendly agreement... but in reality, the marriage has been over for some time and it's been one of those relationships that turned into "putting up with each other for mutual interests" as opposed to life-long love and commitment.)

Anyway, it all comes down to this. I have the blessing of my future ex to date as I please. I'm interested in this guy but because he's the driver for my work, I fear that asking him out overtly would give me a bad reputation, especially since I don't involve my coworkers in my personal life enough for them to know anything about my seperation and divorce. If for some reason he decides to gossip that I "asked him out" (I offered to try and fix his webcam and pay up the beer I owe him), then all of a sudden, work could be a very embarasing place to go every day. Especially because of a few of my coworker who I mentioned is another post who are almost mean-spirited in their teasing, no matter how true it is.

Eh... I guess I'm just a magnet for trouble judging by where I am in life at this point! :nono::drool::naughty:

After a down and disappointing weekend, I had something really great happen to me this evening!

A long lost friend of mine saw one of my eBay auctions and recognized my photography, so she emailed me! I am so happy because I lost touch with her when I moved in with my future ex husband!

I've invited her to lunch some weekend in the future. It's so great to find friends you thought you'd never see again! :nono::laugh:

I had a nice talk on the phone with my old friend tonight. It was so nice to be able to talk to her after all this time! :assimilated:

Also, my UPS driver asked me today why I hadn't replied to the smart@ss email he sent me... uh... I didn't get it. :(

So I now have a new email account because his ISP doesn't play nice with mine. At least I'll finally be able to get a conversation going with him. :)

I got paid today. I guess the owner decided to put me in for holiday pay, which I wasn't expecting since I have only been back a few months now.

I also had a little bit of overtime. No wonder the bosses keep trying to send me home early.

Our manager lost track of time today while playing a computer game in the office and when it came time for me and him to end our shifts I had to go remind him it was time for us to go home! :) :waaaa:

It was awkward... "hey boss... umm... you think it's time for me to go home??" :waaaa:

I gave up last week and bought a digital camera on eBay. It's not the cool fancy model I really want, but I couldn't go too much longer not being able to take pictures. The camera came today, so I had a bit of fun earlier learning how to use it. It's nicer than the one I had, but a far cry from being the one I want.

I'm beginning to worry that the Christmas gifts I ordered online won't get here on time to ship them to the proper recipients. I know I'm being paranoid... it's just that I spend my workday shipping other people's Christmas packages, so I get nervous about getting my own in the mail!

I got some cute Christmas coffee mugs which I'm going to line with red cellophane and fill with candies for my extended family. They're budget gifts, but I know they'll appreciate me thinking of them! :o

I had a long night last night and had about three hours of sleep. Funny though, I'm wide awake right now and don't even feel like I stayed out too late.

I went to see 80's rock band Dokken last night. It was a lot of fun so I'm making the drive down to Tacoma to see them again tonight. They only play here like every four years, so I have to go while I can. It's an early Christmas present to myself. :P

I'm supposed to stay overnight at my friend's house in Puyallup and then we're doing something tomarrow. I'm kinda bummed that she doesn't want to go to the concert with me, but she says that only 80's band she would ever go see is Guns 'N' Roses, so I'm on my own. :P

I'm listening to a pop band called Super Deluxe right now. I liked them a lot when I was a teenager and they have gotten back together so I'm enjoying their EP. :P

Work was pretty busy today but I got sent home early because the boss didn't want to give me any more overtime. Oh well, I can goof off for a while. :P

With the music scene as it now I would kill just go to a concert from any band from the eighties. :P

Odie, I agree with you fully. I like a few newer bands, but I always go back to what I grew up listening to! :P

And Dokken was wicked awesome last night! :P

I spent today at the house of my old friend. We had the most fun time and she copied some music of newer local bands for me to hear. I'm really liking a few of the CD's she made for me... and it usually takes me a while to get really warmed up to new music.

I have a sneaking feeling that I'm entering my fourth childhood. :P

Just a line to say Hi Miss you and Merry Christmas.

Thanks for the holiday wishes!

Work has gone well so far this week. I get a bit brain-tired about halfway through my shift, but the good news is that we haven't seen nearly the amount of unfriendly people this season! Most everyone who comes in is patient and friendly, even with dealing with a line to the door. It's nice to have a holiday rush where people aren't being mean to one another. :dude:

I've also met a couple more cute, nice UPS Drivers. It seems they are swarming our store because someone passed the word down the line that there was no way our pickup guy could fit all our packages into his truck. This is another improvement from past years where the evening pickup guy would come in and practically start crying when he saw the "great wall of boxes." :dude:

I'm also getting hour-long lunches most days. It's nice even though I know they're conspiring to cut down on my overtime.

I got an email from a company I ordered a gift from saying they are out of stock. Gee, thanks, coulda told me this two weeks ago when I ordered the darn thing! Of course, it just HAS to be one of the ones I needed to wrap and re-ship this week. Arghhh.... (goes off to find an online shop that does gift-wrap) :wow:

My old girlfriend turned me onto a new band when I saw her. They're called Novatone and they are so awesome. I think it's been forever since I've kept a CD in my CD player more than a day or so. We went to their concert Tuesday night and it was a lot of fun.

Well, looks like it's time for me to get some last, last minute Christmas shopping done! Darn that online store for selling out and just now telling me!

I'm tired.

I just finished getting a bunch of holiday packages and cards ready to send. I procrastinated a bit, so now I have to send all my stuff UPS 2-day! <_<

I still have to make up a few small gifts to mail out, but I think I'm going to let that wait another day.

We have our holiday party for work on Sunday. It sounds like it's going to be fun, but it's a bummer it's on our only day off. I know a few people who aren't going for that reason.

My coworkers are all like an extended family, so it's not that bad having a gathering on our only day off. Everyone was pretty tired tonight and our owner threw out his back this morning, but we all had a bunch of good food and good laughs. Our owner is such a great guy... he gave us all Starbucks gift cards as a present plus our regular bonuses. We don't get much in the way of bonuses, but he does nice things for us all during the year too, like taking us all to baseball games and getting the good seats and stuff like that. I really missed working there the year I took off to stay at home with my daughter.

If I had web hosting, I'd post the group picture from the party here... everyone had the biggest smiles on their faces!

I hope to buy our store in the next ten years assuming that transporter technology doesn't wipe out the shipping industry at some point! There's nothing better in the worls than working for a small business where everyone is like family!

I'm pretty worn out from work at this point, but I only have one work day left before the holiday weekend.

I've got plans to take my daughter into work on Friday because our manager is dressing up like Santa and I think it would be a really cute picture. Then we're planning to spend the afternoon doing something fun. :dude:

I'm trying to give estranged hubby equal time with Katie for the holiday, so it's hard trying to plan around his unpredictable schedule, but we'll work it out.

I just finished getting my gifts together for my coworkers. They're nothing big, but I felt like I should get them all something since they are such nice people!

Merry Christmas and Happy Holidays to all my friends here who celebrate! :P

I had a very nice, relaxing holiday. Richard came over to open gifts with us and we had a nice time. I had told him not to get me anything since he's on a tight budget, but he bought me some DVDs and a box of candy anyhow. It's touching that my future ex would care enough to get me something even if it is during a financially difficult time for him!

I got him some new shirts and towels which he needed. I'm hoping that the shirts fit him, for some reason he has trouble getting clothes that fit right. :P

Katie had a great time even though she has a nasty cold. She wasn't really all that into opening the gifts, but we had a lot of fun. She was particularly pleased with the puzzles I got her and a doll that an online friend sent.

My best friend sent me a book I had wanted to buy. So I'll be reading and eating chocolates tonight.

Richard and Katie went to his dad's house for the evening and then she's going to stay over with daddy. I miss having her here, but at the same time, I know how important it is to see family this time of year!

My grandfather and I are having steak for dinner. I didn't want to cook a big meal for only two people, so it's going to be a nice dinner. I got two really nice cuts of steak at the grocery yesterday and I doubt we'll be able to eat it all!

I don't work again until 10am on Monday, so I've got a nice little break. I have to work New Year's Eve, but I'm off the rest of the weekend, so that will be nice as well!

I'm feeling lonely tonight. I guess this is one of those days where I just want to talk to someone.

Getting divorced really sucks. :(

Well, at least my workday was swift and painless. If all else fails, I may just curl up on the couch with my books and relax.

My "lonely" from yesterday has turned into full-blown self-pity. Can someone please send me a virtual kick in the butt to get me off this depressed kick? :assimilated:

My poor friend in Texas just got a long whiny email from me laying out a bunch of men problems on her. I hope she undrstands.

I decided to look into a course on commercial driver training at a local college (I am thinking of trying to get a job with the postal service) and once I saw the tuition, I decided it might be best for me to just take the postal clerk test and stay away from driving for a living.

I don't have any reason to want a different job... I'm just restless right now and I think I may have made a big mistake by going back to an old job. Don't get me wrong, I love my job an coworkers (most of the time), but it's no longer a challenge, so I'm thinking it's time for a switch.

(honest truth, my decision to look at other careers is partially fueled by my ongoing UPS driver fiasco, but I'll never tell)

For right now just study the Postage Exam. Once you have the foot in the door and still want to drive they may offer courses or pay for you to take the commercial driver training.

I ordered my postal test study books yesterday. All my friends think I'd be miserable going into that kind of job, but hey, it's good work.

Hopefully the books will be pretty easy to read and study from. It's been quite a while since I have been in school so it's hard to get back into studying again!

I really don't think you are crazy. There are lots of benefits in working for the government. One of the best benefit is that you get a yearly pay raise. You will recieve equal pay for your work.

Happy New Year, everyone! B)

I was talking with my future ex hubby the other night and he told me I should qualify for some grants so I can go back to school! It's too late for me to register for this quarter, so I may be going back to school part-time in the spring.

For now, I'm going to study for the postal exams and take a correspondance course just to get myself back into the habit of studying. B)

I've needed something to keep my mind active lately, so this looks like a good thing! Please cross your fingers that I qualify for the financial aid! B)

Well, I started studying for the postal exams today. The first part was really easy, I'm sure I'll have no problems, but the rest of the book has me scared. I'm getting the impression that the study guide's sample tests are different from what the real test is.

If not, it's easier than I thought it might be, if so, I'm getting in over my head. B)

I had a nice discussion with my guy friend who hasn't been answering my emails for the past month. He insists that every email he has sent has not gotten to the intended person. I think he's either got a really messed-up computer or he's full of it. We'll see.

I also made a bit of a fool of myself at work today. I was talking to a male customer who's a friend of the male friend with the disappearing email. We were discussing muscle cars and I got it in my mind to ask if he was married. Dumb me, it looked like I was coming onto him. Gee, I was just going to comment that he had a lucky wife for being such a cool guy and all! :hides: :blush 2:

I also had a nice talk with my future ex hubby's mom earlier tonight. She's a very nice southern lady, but she just talks and talks... B)

Looks like I work the next two Saturdays in a row. Usually we trade off but it looks like some other people have asked for time off. Oh well, I just go shopping when I'm not at work anyway! B)
