  1. I'm glad they are not re-editing the scenes into the movie.  I wish they would include the extended reception scene so we could hear of Blue Skies at the reception.  How about a bonus music video or something.

I have a problem with re-editing scenes into Star Trek movies because of canon problems.  Would the theatrical release be canon or would things that are in the DVD be canon?  You know how some DVDs (like Independence Day) had both the theatrical version and a special edition version.  Maybe with Star Trek movies they could have a canon version and a non-canon version.   :)

Did you see Star Trek VI in the theater by any chance? I saw it twice and when I got the video it totally took me by surprise. Making Corlnel West the assasin dressed up in Klingon make-up totally put a new twist on the story. It was a good twist but it was just wierd that it wasn't in the theater.

I didn't even know that was not in the original, maybe that was because I didn't see it in the theaters. Wow, who was the assasin in the theatrical version?

It was just some Klingon. Every thing was the same except that they cut out the scene where Worf's grandfather says "This is not Klingon blood" and they take the mask off. Actually all of the scenes with Rene Auberjonois (aka Odo) were cut out of the theater release.

  2. I loved X-Men, Patrick Stewert was awesome! Brent was great in ID4 but I really didn't like the movie much.

Even though she only had a small part, Gates McFaden was in The Hunt for Red Octerber and that was a great movie.

I loved Loaded Wepon 1 a lot also with Shatner and Dohan.

  4. If you're comparing Pulanski/Data to McCoy/Spock, I'd have to disagree. McCoy pretended to be ANNOYED with Spock, but I don't think he was ever PREDJUDICED against him...and I like McCoy, don't compare him to...her.

(He was 70 in the movies??? Just to clarify - were you talking about McCoy or DeForrest Kelly?)

I wouldn't say the Pulanski/Data was the same as McCoy/Spock but I can definatly see that it was what they were trying to do. I just don't think they pulled it off as well.

As far as Crusher being an expert on Data, my guess is she studied!

  5. I have all of TNG’s sets on DVD (and the first season of DS9)

Season 3 is really when TNG took off. Not just in the stories, but with its ratings. That’s why to many it is the best season.

I can’t really choose between them. I can say it will not be season 1 or 2, but the others it really is a “gave & take”. So there are certain things from certain season which are better then others and negatives also . . . but overall it seems to weight out almost evenly (at least to me) with the season from 3 and beyond.

With the stories TNG had (and that’s really the most important fundamental thing a show can have) makes TNG the best series.

I agree that the show really did take off with season 3. I thought that both 4 and 6 were also really strong. I thought season 5 was kind of weak though and season 7 though good just wasn't as interesting as the others. I think that the weakest season in TNG's run however was season 2. Perhaps I missed Crusher..

  6. But looking at how much Crusher has aged since the TNG was on the air, I would assume Pulaski is even older looking.

True, Diana Muldaur is 10 years older than Gates McFadden. She would be about 65 now.

How old was Bones in the movies? He had to have been more than 65, at least by Star Trek VI.

  7. I have no clue who the chef might be but I think that they should wait to the very last minute of the last episode to show his (or her) face.

I'm pretty sure that Chef is a 'he' because if I remember right in the episode "Singularity" T'Pol tells Archer that Chef didn't report for duty and Archer asks if 'he's' sick. I don't have a script in front of me however so it is possible that I dreamed the whole thing up.

  8. I think it should be the chef from the old Nickelonion show 'You Can't Do That On Television!" Does anyone else remember that show?

Archer: "Hey Trip, I can't find Porthos have you seen him?"

Trip: "Cap'n, guess what's in the burger..."

    Chef: "Duh.... I heard that!"

  9. All the ones you mentioned are excellent, however, my all-time favorite episode is The Trouble With Tribbles.    Mirror, Mirror and A Piece of the Action are also excellent episodes.

My favorite episodes have been the more serious ones. I do love the funny ones as well though. Both A piece of the Action and Trouble with Tribbles are halious! In the line of episodes that made me laugh, what did you think of Shore Leave? I thought Bones in Wonderland was pretty funny.

  10. Have you read the book 'Q-Squared' ? It's a really fun book and it's all about Trelane annoying the Next Gen crew. The book follows four different time lines (I think it was four anyway, it's been a while) including one in which the 'Q' that we've all come to know and love is responsible for possesing Gary Mitchell in the original series episode 'Where No Man Has Gone Before'. If you like Q at all than you must read this book!

  12. well Roddenberry really tried to relay the mesaages of the faults of our society today in Star Trek. That has sort of died off with the spin-offs. It is still existent but not so much as Gene had intended it to be.

Very true. They need to get some of the old writers back that worked on TNG,can't remember their names off the top of my head but i know a lot of them are no longer involved with ST. I Borg was a brilliant episode, and the Data episode "Measure of a Man" was absolutely outstanding. ST at it's best most definately. They just don't write 'em like that anymore, more's the pity.

i agree completely. they need more stories which go deep into the topics, not just skim on the edge like so many of the new ones do.

A few years ago I would have agreed that the spin off shows had lost the since of ethics of TOS but the deeper I look the more I see that it is still very much there. I sat in (I didn't have the money to enroll myself) on an 'Ethics of Star Trek' class that was being offered at Oklahoma University (which is in my home town of Norman, OK). In the class we watched episodes from all of the different series and the discussed the morals and ethics of the stories. I think that it's easy, especially in the newer shows where it's not so in your face, to get carried away in the action and adventure and not notice the true meanings behind the stories. TOS, the movies, TNG, DS9, Voyager, and even Enterprise are still rich with great ideas that I think Gene would be proud of to this day. I think that Nemesis delt with some very deep ethical issues, possibly some of the deepest ever to be delt with in a Trek film.

  13. I just got the Season 3 box set today as a birthday gift from me mum. I think that this could be my favorite season of TNG, either this or season 4. I was watching the special features and I have to say that I think Micheal Piller was cool. He needs to come back and take over writing on Enterprise (me thinks!). Anyway I was wondering how many of you have seen the season 3 DVD's, what you thought of the special features, and what your favorite episode from this season was. There were so many good ones that I had to nerrow it down to my top five:

    Who Watches the Watchers

    Sarek

    Yesterday's Enterprise

    Sins of the Father

The Best of Both Worlds, Part 1

Anyway let me know what you think! :)

  14. I was just thinking about this the other day and I agree with Braltar that it is a combination of many things one branch of which happens to be the military. I myself would most likely never join the military as it is at the moment (in fact I would go as far as to move to Canada if need be) but I would however join Starfleet in a heart beat. Starfleet isn't about guns and power. Starfleet is about exploration and expanding our knowledge of the galaxy in a peaceful way. Yes Starfleet has solders and there are times when they have to 'bring out the guns' but it is rarely their first choice. Kirk said that he was a solder and I think that he most definatly was. Picard however was a scientist and a deplomate to his core.

  15. What I would like to see in a movie is a last battle of wits between Picard and Q. That could be really cool. I'm not sure if even a movie could top Tapestry and All Good Things..., though, maybe better to leave Q alone.

They could also have a movie about a character's early years. Wouldn't it be neat to see Kirk at his first assignment (or Picard for that matter.).

They could have a series (three or so) of Enterprise movies dealing with the Romulan war.

Hmm, I begin to see the difficulty in trying to obtain a different look at Star Trek while not alienating the masses. Perhaps Star Trek should move into the realm of television movies. I think it would be neat to see a Star Trek EVENT every once in a while on the Sci Fi channel or somewhere else.

    Keep thinking.

A Q movie could be really cool, but they would have to do it right. I think for Star Trek to work on the big screne the stakes have to be a lot higher than they do on a weekly tv show. One of the problems with Q is that he can always snap his fingers and make everything ok again. Done well a Q movie would be awesome however.

  16. I missed a lot of the last few seasons of DS9 but from what I saw with him he added a lot to the show. I can't wait for all of DS9 to come out on DVD so that I can finally catch up. As to if he was better on DS9 or TNG, I enjoyed him on both a lot. I do think that DS9 gave the writers more chances to expand on his character though..

  17. I have to go with Janeway. When the show first started I really didn't care for her too much but as the series moved forward and the developed her character more I think she grew to be truly worthy to sit among the previous Star Trek captians. I also enjoy the Doctor a lot as well. The Doctor and Janeway's relationship reminds me a lot of Picard and Data.

  18. Captain - Picard

    1st Officer/Science Officer - Spock

    2nd Officer - Data

    Ship Security - Odo

    Wapons - Worf

    Helm - Sulu

    Navigation - Jadzia Dax

Doctor - Bones with help from EMH (I would love to see what Bones thought of him)

Egineer - Scotty with help from Trip

    Comunications - Uhura

    Transporter Cheif - O'brian

    Ship Councelur - Guinin

Grumpy Old Fleet Admaril - Kirk

Guest Stars - Riker, Sisko, and Janeway

  19. I love the book Sarek. It picks up where Star Trek VI left of and focuses manly on Spocks father Sarek and Kirks Nephew Peter Kirk.

So far my favorite TNG novel was Dark Mirror. It's basicly the TNG version of Mirror Mirror. This book was awesome, I loved the evil version of Troi.

Also if you like Khan than The Euginics Wars is really good. I'm still working on this one but I'm almost finished and so far it's been awesome. The second Euginics Wars book will defenatly be the next book I read.

On this topic I was thinking that it might be cool if there was a board just of discussing Star Trek Novels. Just an idea...
