  1. I had not thought about the parallels between the Federation and Orwell's vision of the 'future' in 1984. It is quite true, and quite chilling to consider.

Chilling? Um... that is rather an understatement... *shudders* I am glad I was able to bring up a(n?) unique parallel though. Fun!

  2. Thank you. For a moment there I was worried. LOL I agree that every government must protect its own interests whenever possible- we Romulans do that too. But the difference is that we say we do what we do to protect the interests of the Romulan people. The Federation is full of hypocrites who say they are out for the good of the universe, but you are right in that they are out to protect themselves supremely, and others second. Why can they not just say that??

Welfconfed, as usual your arguement is insightful and I agree. This brings to mind the book I am currently reading, 1984. The present and future are based on a series of carefully constructed lies, so that the people are like sheep bending to the government's will. I am not saying that this is what is happening, or will happen, in the Federation, but nothing good can come of a future built on a lie. And there are people still alive who know the truth behind Tomed.

Am I the only one who understands this?? Oh well. Actually, Dr. Who 42, I am reading 1984 on your suggestion. Most of the time, I am a follower of Goldsteinism, expect when I am big sister, mwahahahaha! LOL Back on topic though.

    ^ Both.

< My backpack broke in history class today.

v Are you going to watch the Enterprise season four premiere?

  4. A. No. That one should be obvious to even Federation members.

    B. They always say that whatever they are doing is for the "good of the many." It is okay to make the RSE out to be this evil empire that destroys thousands of Federation citizens because of whatever (it has been a while since I read SATR) because in the long run, it is better for everyone than what would have happened. My questions here are, WHAT ABOUT THE GOOD OF THE ROMULAN PEOPLE??? Has the Federation, in its oh-so-noble enterprises (pun intended) ever done anything for the good of the Romulan people? No. They say it is for the good of the universe, or galaxy, or Alpha quadrant, but the Romulans are part of these too. Are they helped? No. As much as I hate to agree with a Klingon, when Azetbur pointed out how hypocritical the Federation was in STVI, I had to agree. I assume that we are thinking sort of along the same lines, welfconfed?

  5. You make some excellent points, Fenriz. I for one find it much easier to get to know someone online than in person. This is partly because I am extremely shy- I fear rejection. I cannot go up to someone and just start a conversation. On line, I do not actually have to meet the person; they are just a name on a screen. Besides, as you mentioned, you already know you share a common interest. I am more of an inside out person. I find it easier to talk to someone on line; to me, it matters not what age, or sex they are. If we get along, so be it. (This is a bit different when talking in terms of romance, of course). In person, that is a barrier. One of the people I care most about in life is a fifty-something year-old man, because he is like a father or an uncle to me. Yet, it was hard to get to know him because of the age gap. On line, we could have been chatting in half an hour. My stand is that yes, it is more dangerous to try and get to know someone on the internet, but people I know on the internet end up being closer to me than people in real life. One's personality can come out more online, and that is one of the things I value most. I could be the thirteen year old girl I say I am, or I could be an eighty-year-old hag. Yet, you guys like me (I hope!) because of what I say, and the way I talk, not what I look like. So, internet relations, though people lie about age and stuff, are more honest in my opinion. I actually prefer them, and most of the people on this site are closer to me than the people I know in real life.

  6. ^ Either one is fine with me. Of course, if it was someone off this site versus the people I know in real life... I would definitely go with the online option.
