1. For me I would vote in the following order:

    1. Enterprise (After refits)

    2. Enterprise (Before refits)

    3. Enterprise A (OK you might say it was the same as the previous film Enterprise but the interior was different and I prefer the pre-ST5 bridge)

I was brought up with the above Enterprises so they will always be what I see when anyone mentions the name, but after them comes:

    4. Enterprise E

    5. Enterprise D

    6. Enterprise C

    7. Enterprise B

  3. In Remembrance of James Doohan 1920-2005

    jamesdoohan.jpg

James Doohan, who played the much loved chief engineer Montgomery Scott in Star Trek, has died at the age of 85 after suffering from pneumonia and Alzheimer's disease.

James appeared in three seasons of the classic Star Trek and seven of the subsequent films from Star Trek The Motion Picture up until Generations, which saw the passing of the film franchise baton to the Next Generation crew.

Born in Vancouver and the youngest of four children Doohan joined the Royal Canadian Artillery aged 19 at the outbreak of World War 2, eventually rising to the rank of lieutenant. He took part in the invasion of Normandy at Juno Beach on D-Day where he lost his middle right finger in a machine gun attack. Later he became a pilot for the Royal Canadian Air Force, flying an artillery observation plane.

After the war Doohan had earned a reputaion as a versitile character actor when he auditioned for the role of the chief engineer of the starship Enterprise. Doohan tried out several accents and it was this gift for using foreign accents that landed him the job. He subsequently devised both the Vulcan and Klingon languages for the motion pictures.

His first marriage to Judy Doohan produced four children and he had two children by his second marriage to Anita Yagel. In 1974 James married Wende Braunberger, and had two sons, Eric and Thomas.

An active man, James Doohan attended many Star Trek fan conventions and continued to do this well into his 80s, before falling ill, and he became a father again at the age of 80, when his wife Wende gave birth to their daughter Sarah.

His last public appearance was in October 2004 when he received a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

  4. I think it was supposed to be cubist or some kind of post modern style

But i think the 30's is right TM

Yeah I saw it on a television show about the proposals and took a liking to it. I really like that style of building, only problem with it if I remember correctly was that it wasn't very tall and it perhaps did not look striking enough to send the message people are trying to convey after 9/11.

  5. Personally I liked the Twin Towers, OK they were fairly straightforward in outward design but the actual structure in order to create such a high building was groundbreaking for the time.

If I remember correctly wasn't there some a possibility of building a tower that was designed in the 1930s and had a 30s modernism feel to it. I quite liked that design personally but the new one looks fine in my opinion.

  6. Often considered one of the worst episodes from the weak season three I actually rather like this story. By no means is it a classic and there are a few cringe worthy lines but other than that I consider it an enjoyable romp. When compared to The Way to Eden this looks like a jem and if you can look beyond the slightly silly design of Spock's remote control then I think many others will find this a fun episode.

  7. I would say that the best science fiction work (other than Star Trek) would be the Quatermass stories, although I prefer the BBC serials to the actual Hammer films. Both the Twilight Zone and original Outer Limits are works I would give credit to, along with the televison version of Day of the Triffids. However all those mentions are really at their best in the televison productions to date and so I voted for Forbidden Planet.

Other films that deserve a mention are Day the Earth Stood Still and (on the b-movie side of things) This Island Earth.

  8. I really love this show. It's really good and funny. :P Those guys are really crazy! :)

( Yes, I can see it in Norway since I got Discovery Channel. )

What do you guys think of poor Buster, the test dummie? They use him again and again. :P

    :P

Well, to put it this way, I'm very glad I don't have Buster's job! :)

  9. Here's a picture of the new Bond (with caption), from Yahoo. :)

I gotta go take a nap now. I suddenly have an "eyeache". :P :)

WHAT THE ... They have to jokiing. He doesn't look like Bond material. :)

Perhaps not the best photo but for anyone who doubts the lad's ability I would recommend watching Layer Cake in which he is very good indeed. Things seem to be stalling at the moment but personally I think he would make a very good Bond and I can certainly visualise him as a Bond closer to his persona in the books.

Here are a few pics from the film:

  10. I've always enjoyed Diana Muldaur's work. I liked the Pulaski character better than the Crusher one.

    337999

I fully agree. I have always found Diana Muldaur to be a fine actress and she really puts in a good performance here.

  11. I know that at the moment there are several different terrorist organisations making a claim to the bombings and suggesting some sort of victory. I think it should be noted that London has stood up to the terrors of the blitzkrieg (not to mention the IRA), so if the might of the Nazi regime that walked across Europe could not defeat the strength and resolve of the people of London, and of Great Britain as a whole, then I think those responsible for today’s events are much mistaken in their assertions and have a very long way to go before destroying our way of life and enjoyment of democratic freedom.

  12. the book was much better

    337002

Agreed. I'd much rather see a War of the Worlds that was much closer to the book. So far only the Orsen Welles radio production really did the book justice. Having said that the new film is good as simply another blockbuster but not quite as good as the new Star Wars though.
