I've merged your nail biting topic and bad habit topic as they both seemed to be aimed at the same topic.

If you look at the first four Star Trek films have you ever noticed that two of them do not contain a ‘villain’ in as such. I am referring to ST 1 and 4. Do you think that the modern films could have done with this diversity rather than presenting a new antagonist every few years?

Had to go for The Good, the Bad, and the Ugly.

I joined in March 2003 after posting several times at ST.com and received abuse from a group of spammers resident there at the time who rendered almost all the threads there as void.
After joining here I found the conversation much better in that the members could discuss different points of view without it turning into an arguement everytime.

I've moved the thread to Holosuite 2: Program Running Enter When Ready.

In a recent report by the BBC it is claimed that producers of the British TV show 'I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here' want Shatner to take part as a contestant suffering gruelling tasks in the middle of the Australian jungle. Here is the BBC report:
William Shatner desperately wanted for I'm a Celebrity.According to the Daily Star, the producers of reality TV show I'm a Celebrity Get Me Out of Here want to sign up Star Trek's William Shatner as a contestant.
They want the 73-year old actor to take part, but they'll have to hurry - the new series starts next Sunday.
Shatner is currently seen as a big draw, due to the success of his new album Has Been.
Cult's certain he'll cause a rumble in the jungle, but how long will it be before he's beamed off by viewers?

That's a cool idea. It kind of build on a few idea's that I've had. Sinse I saw Nemisis, I've had the idea of Data's personality emerging in B4, but Data taking over the Enterprise, I would have never thought of anything like that. And the thing about the Klingon's joining the Federation has been in my mind ever since Azati Prime.Cheers. Basically I want to see another TNG film that really kicks *buttocks* with some internal (inside the ship) and external battles and most importantly it must have some sort of philosophical meaning, otherwise it wouldn't be Star Trek. I also think the idea of having the ship itself as the main villain is an interesting idea that did well for 2001.

I voted "No, fantasy is totally separate".
As DrWho42 said we do see some “science fantasy” films such as Star Wars and to some degree Star Trek 3. However there are separate films such as Lord of the Rings that are fantasy and have nothing to do with science fiction. They are two separate genres that sometimes converge.

They don't have money in Star Trek, see Star Trek IV: The Voyage Home.

As a moderator I read through all the posts on my forums and keep up-to-date with the rest of the board as well. I don't generally have to do too much moderating as most of the members here apply common sense to abide by the rules and post some very interesting topics. We are lucky to have such a great membership.
After doing all that I tend to join in the topics that I find interesting or start a few of my own if I think of something new that I would like to discuss.

I don't plan to be anything. I'll just invite a few friends over and watch either House on Haunted Hill or Theatre of Blood (while having a few beers).

TOS - Klingons
The Next Generation - Borg
DS9 - Dominion (lets face it, that was what the majority of the series was about!)
Voyager - the main villians were the actors (jk), again the Borg.

Data’s consciousness begins to re-emerge and out grow the processor in B4. Geordi is working with B4 on a research centre attempting to extract the Data elements so that Data can live and that B4’s body is not taken over by the growing dominance of Data.
Meanwhile, the Enterprise commanded by a soon to retire Captain Picard is heading to pick Geordi up when they hear the discovery that the Data memory can be extracted but in order to do so Geordi will need to download Data into a starship computer.
After downloading Data we find that he has begun to grow and started taking over functions from the main computer as a result of this growth.
On the Klingon homeworld the Titan is meeting with Worf (now in a diplomatic position of power) in order to obtain stronger technological and political ties between them and the Federation, with the ultimate aim of a possible application into the Federation.
Back on Enterprise things seem to be getting worse. The engines are failing, all weapons are off line and computer command access is off line. Attempting to avoid a political disaster with the Enterprise drifting illegally into Klingon space, Picard orders the wiping of all downloaded Data information. Very soon Data begins discussing how he has out grown an android body and is making himself comfortable in his new one – the Enterprise itself! This slowly develops into megalomania and desire to exterminate all humans, which he now considered a form of cancer.
Taking the ship deeper into Klingon space and destroying a few ships on he way, the new Data begins creating holo-monsters to kill the crew, a sort of anti-body. The crew actively resist and several fire fights result as the Titan rushes to find out why the Enterprise and Picard have gone AWOL.
There we go that’s the start of the story, I'll leave the rest to the imagination. Btw, just for those Data fans out there, in the conclusion it is considered that the information that they thought was Data, was in fact nothing more than a degrogated copy, the plot drawing on such issues as morality behind cloning and discussing the concept of consciousness and being versus memory and experience.

Ace is correct. It's up to you have you set the standards for what you consider to be the best period.

When would you say Star Trek was at its best, the height of its power?
For me I am tempted to say that the first series was so fantastic that it could be considered being a great time. But for me the trilogy of ST2-ST4 was sci-fi at its best. They had plenty of action but also a deeper meaning which is perhaps where the most recent films have suffered.

Villains

Yeah that's great, but the topic is whether you think the modern Trek films could do with a plot where there is no main "antagonist", as was done in Star Trek 1 and 4?
