  1. I am quite handy in the kitchen.I think I make a superior pizza to any of the major chain resteraunts like Dominoes and Papa Johns.I like my pepperoni and sausage pizza. My family prefers my vegetarian pizza.

  2. I grew up listening to country music, and my wife loves it.I prefer New Age and classical. When it comes to country,I prefer the older stuff (pre-1970's),to the codswallop that is being produced by Nashville at present.

  3. I am right handed. As a kid I tried to teach myself to be equally effecient with both hands, but could never pull it off.I still occasionally write with my left hand, but it still looks like chicken scratch.I suppose I'll never be ambidextrous.

  4. Chakotay an average first officer? In my opinion, yes. He was.

First of all,let me say that no man or woman manages to get promoted to the rank of executive officer of a Starfleet vessel or facility without first being highly intelligent and competent. That said,Chakotay did not show me anything more remarkable than this.

  5. Janeway was a fine command officer, and a great character.I wouldn't go so far as to say that she was the best command officer ever on Trek, not even one of the top three, but that does not mean that I don't like her.

I think she handled her situation, being stranded 70,000-light years from home in Borg space, remarkably well. She made some mistakes, some bad decisions, some unfortunate alliances, but she also made plenty of good decisions. And she returned her ship and her crew home relatively intact after 7-years(no small accomplishment for any Trek commander).

Kate Mulgrew brought a lot to the character, and is one of my favorite actresses(and also a very lovely woman....my wife is soooo jealous of her, because she once asked me if I though Mulgrew was pretty and I made the mistake of answering truthfully).

  6. I adore the character,Mot.It was always nice to see him on an episode, making unsolicited recommendations to the command officers and advice to everyone in general. There was a little bit of every barber I have ever known in Mot.

  7. I chose Dark Page.I wept when I watched this film,as I too experienced the tragic and untimely loss of a child (I and my wife's first,to SIDs).Its a feeling that no parent can truly put into words. And despite everything,no matter the circumstances, you still blame yourself...feel that there was something you should have done,or could have done.

  8. None of the networks would have green-lighted this idea in the time immediately after the cancellation of TOS.Star Trek was simply an idea far too ahead of its day in the late 60's.

As some others have stated,I too would have enjoyed a series based on Captain Sulu and the Excelsior produced after Star Trek:The Undiscovered Country. Its still not too late for that series, though it does unfortunately seem unlikely. We will all have to make due with Enterprise, for better or for worse.

  9. Clearly James Kirk was a ladies man amongst ladies men.He was charming, handsome,a true "alpha" male.Yet,we didn't really see evidence on TOS to support the legends that have grown up around Kirk's sexual conquests. He did not,in fact, have a different lover every episode.I do not believe he even engaged in flirtatious behavior with a woman in every episode.Much of Kirk's sexual exploits are properly left to the imagination.

  10. I'm not sure Pike would have been as well received as Kirk.It was clear,to me at least, that Pike was near the mental breaking point in "The Cage".He could no longer bear the weight of command and at some point he was going to have a complete breakdown unless he was taken out of his command environment.I'd like to have asked Roddenberry what the thinking was behind making the Enterprise's command officer such a disillusioned and torn character.I bet his answer would have been interesting.

I am much more happy with Shatner's James Kirk.Far from being put off by his responsibilities,he thrived under the tremendous pressure of command. He was only truly whole and alive when faced with critical command decisions, and his eventual retirement "killed" him well before Soran ever met him.In Generations,we see a Kirk whose spirit is already dead and gone.He is a hollow shell, and seemingly engaging in dangerous hobbies in an attempt at..suicide?

  11. I would avoid holodecks whenever possible.I think, their "magic" would prove far more addictive than the strongest drugs.A person might even find him or herself so hooked on holodeck fantasies that they would withdraw from reality totally.Holodiction,I think its called.I could see myself as being potentially this type of person.

I would also avoid too much interaction with holographic "people".No matter how sophisticated,I have never believed that either the Doctor,or the Soong Androids were truly sentient.

  12. After too many years of watching Trek women portrayed as little more than eye candy who were prone to hysterics at the first sign of trouble,I thought it was great to see Captain Janeway.A strong, feminine, intelligent woman in a Starfleet uniform. Some would argue that Uhura,Chapel,Troi,Yar,and Crusher were such women. But were they really? At the beginning? How many times did a woman solve a critical problem, offer the advice that "saved the day",kicked a major villains rear end? That's what I mean.Janeway was late in arriving, but much appreciated by this fan nonetheless.

  13. Who else thinks they have no chemistry? B)  :borg:

This couple makes me shake my head in confusion...what writer, what grand high muck-a-muck thought this pairing was a good idea? What could Seven and Chakotay possible have in common, other than being shipmates and otherwise unattached to another crew member? There is nothing here on which to base a relationship. This couple just comes off as being so fake, and forced.Chakotay and Janeway were a far more natural pairing,as they were obviously attracted to one another. They also have much more in common with one another, than Seven and Chakotay.Bad decision here by the writers.

  14. My daughters love to watch the Osbournes.I actually like Sharon and Ozzy(their interaction, one with the other). They are more down to earth, than I imagined.I still think they are bad parents, however.Their children have way too much freedom. As a result,Kelly(as are the other two)is a rude, obnoxious, addict, who treats her mother with little respect, and clearly has little respect for herself. If she were a member of Voyager's crew,I am certain Janeway would either straighten her out(more likely, make poor Tuvok do it),confine her to quarters/lower decks,or maroon her on a desolate planetoid(my favorite choice).

  15. I would say that Torres is a deeply troubled young woman. She has had a difficult life, and has never really come to terms with her dual nature. The experiences of her childhood, and her relationship with her mother have caused her to feel uncomfortable with her Klingon heritage, and impulses. She often exhibits this as feelings of shame and self-loathing.But this is not to say that she felt any more comfortable with her human half. Most of her early efforts at assimilating herself into human society (on Earth,at the Academy),were unsuccessful. And this, she blamed also on her Klingon nature.

Torres could have benifited from a ship board counselor.I think she has a lot of problems she must work out,and a lot of soulsearching to do yet.Still,Tom Paris is good for her,and she made some progress as a crewmember aboard Voyager.I generally liked the character(not, however, one of my favorites).
