  1. The school's here in Laurel are fine.In fact,I'm pretty sure Mississippi has some of the best schools in the country (the state has made a lot of progress over the past twenty-years).I attended public schools my whole life and so did all of my brothers. If I had children I'd send them to the same schools I went to.

Yeah,I feel about the same for the schools here in and around Jonesboro.I think they're just fine and dandy.

  2. Y'know,I try and write fanfic based in the TOS-era and I always get tripped up trying to physically describe the female crewmembers, because I have no idea what those hairstyles are called. :o

Maybe I ought to just write about another era?

    Beehives?Bouffants?I don't know.

Actually,a lot of the older women still wear those 60's styles down here. :o

  3. I was talking with my buddies at work early this morning about home schooling. It seems to be on the rise here in Arkansas (and nation wide). To my surprise three of my co-workers homeschool their children. The reasons ranged from everything from the deadly shooting here in Jonesboro a few years ago,to a lack of confidence in the modern public school's ability to provide a quality education,to a lack of Christian faith and morality in public schools.

Although my daughter does not live with me,I am fine with her attending public school.I think the teachers try and provide a good education, most public schools try and provide as good a learning environment as possible, and that incidents like jonesboro,Paducah, and Columbine are the exception and not the rule.In contrast,my Missouri relatives (Admiral Peewee's family) are big on homeschooling, and all of the school-age children there are taught at home, and have,so far as I know, never seen the inside of a public classroom.

Are your children homeschooled or do you prefer a public education? What are your thoughts on the issue?

  4. I use Norton firewall.I used to have McAfee, but I was not satisfied with its performance and switched to Norton, which IMO is by far the superior product.

I can't say as I've noticed any problems with the smilies or using the various posting options here,or anywhere else, though.

  5. I was a little unsettled by Spock's forced meld with Valeris in The Undiscovered Country. It was almost, well, obscene in a sense.I felt very uncomfortable watching that. :o

As well, you should have been,Sirius. It was a sort of forced telepathic rape.Even Spock was disgusted to have to do this, but the situation was far too critical for any other course of action. The crew of the Enterprise needed desperately to know information only Lieutenant Valeris knew, and she wasn't going to provide that knowledge willingly.Yes,that was unpleasant to watch.

  6. I derive happiness from simple things.

Being happy in my work, knowing that my loved ones are healthy and are themselves happy.Having good friends, and spending time with them.Other than that,I don't need much else.

    Hey,I just noticed,this is my 300th post!

  7. Major Lawrence was clearly involved in a space program conducted by the United States AirForce, but was he an "astronaught"?I think that was the whole debate between the folks behind the memorial and Major Lawrence's family and the NAACP.I'm happy that the man is being recognized for his contributions, but I do believe the NAACP,as is typical, blew the incident out of proportion, and made some unfounded accusations.

  8. A bit of this,and a bit of that.

Great sci-fi writing makes war-oriented storylines more palatable.Star Trek,in all of its forms, has usually had the advantage of talented writers, who are able to weave a great story around all of the explosions and running phaser-fights inherent in any combat episodes.

My preference runs toward the TOS-style pure exploration stories,as in "Who Mourns for Adonis?","Miri",and "Spectre of the Gun".

  10. That's unfortunate. But hopefully, the rest of the cast will take Bakula's lead and just concentrate on their work, and not let all of the disgruntled fans and negative press get them anxious about their job security,or the quality of their work.

Maybe its time to send an influx of positive press their way?Let them know how we feel?I think I'll fire off an e-mail to all the main cast members tonight.I just might start doing that on a weekly basis.

  11. I've always thought it was madness putting the bridge right up there on top of the saucer,so every trigger-happy Klingon and Romulan in the quadrant can pop off a few shots at it.But after a while, you just ignore it.

The bridge should be deep in the bowels of the ship, like main engineering.

  12. Check out these 2 little beauties from the TOS-era.Both commanded by sweet, little old ladies who only used them to transport themselves to and from a nice little vacation spot in the Verunga Sector.Only 2,500-light years on the odometers.

They're a steal at 3,000 bars of latinum a piece!
