    I don't mean this as disrespectful to anyone but the fact that so many marriages end in divorce indicates that love isn't really enough.  Maybe people that don't expect to be happy are less disappointed than those who think marriage will be romantic and wonderful.  Until fairly recent times and still in some places marriages were arranged and many people entered into marriage as a matter of necessity..and divorce rates were lower.  Imagine a hundred years ago a woman almost had to get married.  She couldn't get an education, there were few professions available to women and the social stigma of being single was tremendous.  I marvel at times that the human race survived this far.

    Are you suggesting that we regress in time? That people should stay married and unhappy? That perhaps is the reason both my marriages failed. I guess I couldn't see staying in a relationship that wasn't good for either of us. Believe me we tried to make it work but in the end the Love was gone and we split. I understood the original topic was to discuss weather a marriage of convenience was possible..And without love I just don't think it is possible in my opinion..

    There are a lot of Trek charcters that I like, Data, Dax, Kira, Worf....However Mr. Spock is my favorite even after all these years..Leornard Nimoy's portrayal of Spock was fantastic..So cool and logical but occasionally his human side would show..You see I started watching TOS when I was a teenager, 30 years ago!..It was magic to an impressionable teenager..I wanted to be as cool and logical as Spock! Who ever could?..It wasn't only those 79 episodes..It was those 6 movies too..I cried when he died at the end of Star Trek 2. This was a character that was a part of my life growing up..We were lucky that we got him back in Star Trek 3.. :P

    I've been married twice and divorced twice..So here on my thoughts..

     

    You pose an interesting question..A marriage of convenience. I do know how hard it is on 1 income..And it is lonely at times..But I too don't think it would be a marriage without Love and intimacy...They are very important elements aren't they? It does sound more like a business arrangement...But let's see how could it work..No Love equals separate bedrooms to me...Might as well work opposite shifts also..Then it may have a chance of working..OR..Can 2 people of the opposite sex be married and not be intimate?..Just be friends?..I don't think so IMO..The more I think about it the more I view it as a business arrangement not a marriage..

    Females make up slightly more than half the human population so they should make up half of the crew.

    Which is the reason I started this thread. Females make up half of the population. Wouldn't it have been interesting to have 1 Trek series that had equal numbers of Female to Male Main cast members..

     

    By the way, I don't believe that recurring crew members(Male or Female) should be included as part of the Men/Women main cast ratio..But, please cast your vote. I am interested in what you all have to say..

    OK..Perhaps you're right..But I still feel that the the ratio of men to women should have been more equal..It would have sent a better message wouldn't it have? Men and Women working together to solve problems in the future..

    Something that has bothered me since I first started watching Star Trek..Why is the ratio of Females to Males on the main cast so bad? If Star Trek is supposed to be this 'Perfect' society shouldn't the ratio be equal or close to equal? At first I thought it was because TOS was made in the 60's but it seems to have continued throughout the 5 ST Series..Any opinions as to why?

    Yeah, I've always had a hard time with how that situation was resolved. Being the intelligent logical guy that he is Spock could have figured out who the imposter was.. Or as you say stun them both..I think they just had their minds made up that the 2 Kirks were going to fight each other..

    I would like to travel into the past.. But not to change anything for myself..It would be as an observer..For one thing there are musical events that would have been great to witness..How about a Beatles, Led Zeppelin or a Jimi Hendrix Concert?..How about the Doors? I am a RED Sox fan and I would love to have seen Ted Williams play..Yes and how about the Original Star Trek series when it first aired?..Wouldn't it have been fantastic to see that?

    You certainly are not alone Bysty.I too am discovering DS9 for the first time..1 season at a time when the DVD sets come out..Amazing that I've never paid that much attention to DS9..It's like a brand new Star Trek series to me..Very cool.

    TOS will always be my favorite..It's probably because of the original cast..Something magical about that mix of characters IMO..

     

    DS9 is a close second..I like Enterprise too..I hope the episodes keep improving this year...

    Stewart said how he wanted to “hurt” some ST fans (who were dressed in ST-uniform) when they came to a play he was working on.

    I like Patrick's portrayal of Captain Picard but I was a little turned off by this comment of his. I've never heard of Shatner saying similar things about Trek fans. I've always enjoyed Bill's sense of humor. His Saturday night live skit was very humorous. I don't know why Bill hasn't recieved the proper credit that he deserves....Where would Star Trek be without Bill Shatner? In my opinion Bill has saved the franchise many times and kept it alive...

     

    Sometimes, I feel that it is shame that the Original cast didn't continue making movies after number 6..I like 1-6 much better than 7-10..!..But, I suppose it was time to move on to the Next Generation..
