  1. It's Only a Paper Moon wins for me, hands down. Particulary if watched just after The Siege of AR-558... DS9 has a lot of fantastic episodes, but that one really affected me. Not saying I haven't cried at others mind you...

  2. (clicky)

I happened to come across this today, and I'm already incredibly excited by the prospect of a Star Trek MMORPG. But... I've been cut off from ST happenings for a long (At least a year) time, and I don't see a topic here. Is this only so much marsh gas?

If not, and I really hope it isn't, romance, fame and wealth can go take a jump, I've found my new goal in life...

  3. While I can understand their motives, and sympathise with some of their political ambitions, I agree with everyone here that no one should allow their lives to be changed by acts of terrorism. Doing so would only increase further acts of violence against innocents of all nationalities and backgrounds.

  4. I finished my first AP exam in May :) 4 hours. then I realized I needed a pen. I had to run to the library and grab one O.o

Virginia just got finished with most of the major exams though,  since school ends this week. FINALLY. :)

Yeah I know, my school term finishes in exactly 7 1/2 days and I can't wait! No more work and no more exams ever!... Well, for a couple of monthes at last...

So what are A.P. exams then? Is it just like you've got four hours concentrated writing? Whatever they are they sound scary. I'll just stick with good ol' GCSE's, AS's and A2's. Ahhh, bliss.

  5. Well, its at the tail-end of exams in England, and I'm sure elsewhere. And so far - for me they are going... okay, which is really great as going to College and making something of my life is really important to me.

Man, I hate that second just before you turn other the paper, thats when you really know what its like to have butterflies in your stomach!

Anyone got any general exam stuff? Any exams in the past or any looming up, any exam worries and (hopefully) what will happen after them. I for one would be very interested to hear them and it might be cool to swap tales around a campfire... (okay, imagine the campfire bit)

This is also a kind of celebration post, its been many monthes since I've posted a new topic, I have had not enough time or confidence before now. But, like they say, "Full speed ahead and damn the torpedoes!" :)

Anyhow, I hope this topic gets replies and good luck to everyone who is doing or has done exams this year, hopefully including me.

  6. Hey, Lighten up, there are kids in here who fool around like all kids do. As an adult, or most adults, understand this. I like having the kids around sometimes they knock some sense into us adults when we get too serious. Sometimes when I get too serious a funny little comment from one of them snaps me out of it.  Are you in a bad mood or something NoBeSk? There is a 'Pissing and Moaning' thread in here somewhere you might like to visit. :eekout:

Well, I am "light". I'm not talking about a "funny little comment", I am talking a about completely non-relevent spam with smilies.

Please, and this a general point to no-one in particular, think about other people before you decide to take a thread off-topic. Some people like having completely pointless topics with 46 three word posts in them from four members, however, some people do not and I'm sure some people do not like having their topics become something completely different because someone thinks it is amusing or funny to repond with a random series of posts.

Please remember, while some people might like totaly randon post after posts, others do not. There are in fact forums for nonsensical posts, if you feel like posting a pointless post or topic, please do use them, its a common courtesy and ensures that everyone is happy.

Oh and Jeanway, that comment was slightly too personal and, whether you meant it or not, I did feel slightly insulted. Just be a litle more careful with your wording in future okay?

  7. Well, well, well, since I started this thread I guess I should interject here.

Off Topic is just part of it all. Discussions get skewed in one direction and evolve into some pig-faced, scary animal sometimes, so what. :P No one is getting payed to post so how serious can it be, this is all for entertainment and enrichment and comraderie between us all with all our main thread, or connection being Star Terk. I think a silly post in the middle of a heated discussion kind of adds to it's charm  We all have different views and opinions that's what makes coming here so addicting, OOPS, did I just say that? :o   :eekout:

Well, I'll show you an example of what I mean by "useless and irelevant posts that are completely off-topic".

Say, for example, there is a discussion about the celebrties and their influence in our culture. Then someone posts something completly random about, say squirrels. Then that that topic ends up looking like this: Person A: "I like squirrels, they are so cool" Person B: "Really?" Person A "Yeah!!!11!" Person B "LOL - cool!" Person A "I know" and so on till the topic is ground into the dust.

Now, this is not amusing nor does it enrich the topic; off-topic does not mean the topics can go in any direction, it means that it is a forum for the discusion of non-Star Trek ideas. And no, having to trawl through 20 or so random two word posts does not add to the charm.

Having different opinions is great and everyone should express theirs fully. However, the above example, which has happened a couple of times is not expressing that persons views, it is at best deliberatly taking a threat off-topic and having a personal conversation in a public forum. At worst its a selfish act that completly de-rails the topic, again, if anyone wants to post random posts there is a forum available.

*reviews post* I knew I would look like the bad guy! Oh well, just my two cents...

  8. Well aren't clouds fluffy?

Isn't annoying when there is an argument about somthing and eveyone gangs up on a person..Even if its Non of thier Beewax?

I'm sorry, I don't understand. I said quite clearly that I was not getting at anyone and I was not, least of all you. I was not thinking of anyone person when I wrote that but I apologise if you thought it was meant at you. It was not.

However, I do not apologise for saying that useless and irelevant posts that are completely off-topic are annoying and frankly childish. If people wish to post that kind of thing then they should do so where they are meant to, ie the Cotten Candy Factory and leave the serious forums for serious posts, or at least posts with a point.

  9. I have no comment to the above,.If i do..i will be queued again

I'm sure mj isn't trying to query you or push you into a corner, she is just trying to explain things to you and trying to answer you're reply, much better then I could as well.

Okay, I'm not going to query you then, I'll just get on with my post.

I do tend to drop out from this site for weeks or even monthes at a time and then come back with a burst of posts then fade... Its partly the reason why I average one post a day yet have been at this site for over thirteen monthes. I don't really know why, I just don't feel as attached to this site as I used to. I think this is partly because the site seems a bit lifeless, compared to what it used to be. When I first joined, my first post was in a debate on the merits of Wesly Chrusher on TNG. And this was a proper debate, not a nonsenical post or a flame war. There just don't seem to be any real debates other then in Kronos right now, and whenever I go in there there are always posts locked. Not that I am blaming the Mods in any way, shape or form. Its just the way things are.

I don't know, I just look at the topic dates in, say the General Star Trek Forum, and I realise that there are three new threads in four days... It just doesn't seem as lively as before.

Meh, maybe I'm just being melodramatic. Anyway, I still like coming on this forum but just not as much as I used to.

  10. Wow, this thread is really off topic! :look:

With that said, all I can think of is a small convenience thing. When topics have more then one page, I'd like it if there was an option to read all or the posts on one page. Its only a tiny thing but there you go.

Also, I'd like it if when people want to post useless/random/one-word replies, they do it in the proper place. :look: Now I know I'm sounding like some anally-retentive jerk who has no life... Well, I am but still, it is annoying when you come across people saying things like "Clouds are fluffy" in the middle of a discussion. Not that I'm getting at anyone here.

    Other then that, nothing really.

  11. I thought it enhanced his character greatly. Made it more interesting, and more "human". He wasn't perfect by any means, so when he did something really great we understood why. But when he messed up it showed that even he could screw things up.

    Hi there

I liked the interaction between O'Brien and Julian in 'Dr Bashir, I Presume' after O'Brien discovered Julian was genetically enhanced. O'Brien said:

"Your not a fraud. I don't care how many enhancements your parents had done. Genetic recoding can't give you ambition or a personality or compassion or any of the things that make a person truly human"

O'Brien saw past his genetically enhanced background and accepted him for his natural human attributes, rather than the 'modified' ones he had been given.

I thought Julian's parents were very selfish, wanting a 'perfect' son when they realised the son they had was less than perfect in their opinion. I strongly disagree with people having procedures performed on them without their consent and this happened to Julian. They decided that he was a failure in the first grade - they didn't even give him a chance to succeed in anything.

So obviously, I didn't agree with the reasons for Julian's genetic enhancements but on the other hand, it made his character more interesting. I liked the way O'Brien still agreed to play darts with him, even though he knew Julian could beat him without even trying.

    Madam Captain out!!

They were not selfish, they could see that even then he was struggling and that he would never be able to live a truley happy life as he was. It was not an easy decision for his parents but because of their love for him they did what was best for him, and it was the best thing for him. Had his parents waited 1) Julian himself would have probably had doubts about the procedure and not gone through with it and 2) his genetic enhancement would no doubt have been discovered much quicker, before he could prove his worth to StarFleet. Yes the procedure was without Julian's consent (NOT the same thing as against his will) but it was the best thing for him, he was happy with his life and I doubt he would have been so happy or so contend without the genetic re-development.

I have a mental handicap that does make my life harder then normal and I do not know whether I would be happier had my parents changed that when I was younger. I don't think that we can judge Julian's parent's decision, I'm sure very few people here would know what it would be like for them to see their child struggle with life and know that his life will always be a struggle, every single day. I know I can't.

  12. UMMM....

nice remembrance but today is the fourth of June. Not the sixth...

WAB, thousands of people died that day... They deserve more than just one day of rememberance...

It was also in the same war as this :(

If it weren;t for D-Day, that flag ^^^ ^^^ ^^^ would be completely white...

I completly agree with you. We should not only remember those who fought at the beachhead and who leapt from the planes, but also those who fought for the allied cause in less obvious but no less dangerous ways. We should also honour those in the French Resistance who fought no less valiantly at D-Day. Were it not for these men and women most of central and eastern europe would be under Nazi dominion.

However, I do not think that we should remember one group of people whilst entirely ignoring another on nationality. The French, British Commonwealth and Americans were fighting for the survival for their countries during June the 6th, the Germans manning the Atlantic Wall were fighting for the survival of theirs. Both were extremly heoric in their actions.

  13. Quantum Leap is great! I only discovered about a week ago, they are replaying it on the Si-Fi channel.

It was on sci-fi last week! :theking: OH NO! I MISSED IT! <_<

Well, only in Britain, its on every weekday... *smirks and rubs hands together* "Well, looks like its time for yet more Quantum Leap! My oh my I certainly wouldn't want to be missing this great show right about now! I'd probably go crazy if I were so unlucky to miss it!"

  14. Presumably Paramount feel that the cost of making a new movie, re-hring the actors etc would not be profitable. I think its probably for the best if Nemesis was TNG's last movie, I think that any new TNG movies would be at best adequate and would probably go downhill as more came out. TNG has had 7 good years and 4 good (mostly) movies, its time to move on to pastures new.

  15. As has already been said this was a great episode, again showing how DS9 can really push the envelope of story telling. I espeacily liked this episode because it illustrated just how far Julian Bashir's character had come from the pilot. He commanded just as much respect as Brooks and he didn't have a gun!

ILIKESEVEN: Out of interest, roughly how many DS9 episodes have you seen?

  16. At this very moment in time... Captive Pursuit. But it changes every minute.

Tosk: "I have no need for fantasy adventure. I live the greatest adventure possible."

Quark: "Then I envy you Mr Tosk!"

    Something like that...

  17. Well I presume his punishment was tempered by three things:

    1) The Marquis easily defeated an Excelsior class starship, the Marquis were obviously a threat.

    2) The Marquis were outlaws who regulary attacked Federation and Cardassian targets.

    3) Using those tactics Capt. Sisko captured Eddington.

  18. Hmmmm, now which one will I go for?

My favorite Star Trek ship of all time has to be the Curry Class Prototype. Sure, when Voyager ended there weren't many about but I fully expect that in the seventh series, set of course in the late 24th century, StarFleet Command will scrap all other ship designs, and fit their entire fleet out with Currys! Not only would they look cool but they would kick bottoms!

Well... maybe not the bottoms-kicking part but they sure would look cool!
