Over the past decade, the name pairing “Kurtzman and Orci” has become a loaded phrase: it connotes blockbuster-sized sci-fi and superhero properties which often make loads of dough, but which aren’t always realized in a manner that fans love. Now Kurtzman and Orci are breaking up their big-screen writing and producing partnership so that each can focus on directing. More important, however, is that Roberto Orci is now working hard to take the director’s chair of Star Trek 3.Variety has a big piece on Alex Kurtzman and Roberto Orci breaking up their big-screen partnership.
The real news, however, is that Orci has been lobbying to direct Star Trek 3, which he is also writing with with Patrick McKay and John D. Payne. The report is that JJ Abrams and Bad Robot are in favor of him getting the job, as are David Ellison and Skydance Productions, the chief financiers.
Paramount, however, evidently isn’t ready to take the plunge just yet. And no wonder, as Orci doesn’t have a feature under his belt as a director. Hard to blame the studio, too, as fans don’t like Orci’s contributions to Trek. He’s not going to be a popular choice to direct, especially given that the release of Star Trek 3 will be timed to coincide with the franchise’s 50th anniversary in 2016.
Borys Kit of THR, meanwhile, paints Orci as being just a bit further along in the process to get the job:
Yes, Kurtzman and Orci are splitting up. But more interestingly, Orci is in early talks to direct STAR TREK 3. No negotiations yet but…— Borys Kit (@Borys_Kit) April 22, 2014Kurtzman and Orci will continue to work together for television, and some of the projects the two already have in development together, such as Spider-Man 3, will continue.
But Kurtzman is already set to direct Venom for Sony, and at Universal he’s working on revivals of monster franchises such as The Mummy and Van Helsing. With all that, and Orci lobbying for Star Trek 3, both of the guys could be busy for a long time on those projects. That’s good news for those who, let’s put this nicely, don’t love their approach to fan properties. At this point I’m willing to cut loose my interest in this incarnation of Star Trek if it means the duo split up and step aside as screenwriters for future series.

There is some discussion about this episode on its rating thread here.
Various mentions of the episode can be found in assorted threads around the site using the search function.
Anyway, inconsistencies....in Star Trek? Blasphemy!

We could all express our personal opinions saying yes see it or don't bother but in the end it will be your own opinion of it that matters. You cannot form a truly informed opinion until you see it for your self and decide. Soooo... I guess that is a yes, see it.

Fan Fiction? I am clueless
Fan Fiction is non-cannon stories fans right about characters in a universe to further expand this universe. Because almost all of these are unofficial, they are usually considered non-cannon what if, let’s say this happened kinda of things. They are great, well some are, some are horrible, horrifying, and weird. They range in rating from G to extremely graphic Nc-17. The more shades of grey that a character has, the more people seem to want to write fan fic about them. For example Lore, we know so little really about him, so there is a wide world about how he came to be, what he did, and what made him the android he is today.
Thank you for leaving out the more colorful adjectives you could have used to describe him.

120,001 Great job!
Not to criticize you but I don't know if you like the new ship design or not...
"Star Trek" review:
- The Enterprise looked STUNNING!"Into Darkness" review:
But! the ship is still butt ugly' date=' and I didn't get the same "heart-in-mouth" moment when she appeared for the first time (as I did in, say... any prime movie...)[/quote']Personally I dislike most of its appearance, especially the curved pylons and hugh-ass bussard caps. The rest is passable to me.
And seriously, how strong is the glass on the bridge? It's all that stands between the cold hard vacuum and the inside!Transparent Aluminum is hella strong!

M and I are both fine, as ever.
Our son made Manager at the Apple office he is employed at, (they're now buying a house) and we're all over the Moon over the birth of our first Grandson. Jem continues to enjoy a stable relationship with her boyfriend & her work in childcare keeps her out of our pockets with ample cashflow, (she bought a new car.) So, yeah... cannot complain.
All well with you?

Howdy, trekzone! God, has it really been 7 years.

I didn't get them, my old DVDs up-scale well enough on the BD player. Besides, no one wants to watch them anymore anyway.

The Death of Star Trek? Looks to me like its alive and thriving!
Some don't see it that way, to them it's been dumbed down - lost something which used to make it special. I get that but what could be done about it, start a petition?
Poor old Vic, I think he Kicked. That is so sad some of his posts made me glad.
Vic would import his news from the following, you could use it for now while you wait for Vic to (hopefully) come back online.

Sorry Bethlehem. I saw your first post after you posted it but didn't have answer so I waited to see if one would be added by anyone more in the know about that.
Perhaps there is a lot of pain being experienced by many over what they perceive as the death of Star Trek.
As for Vic not posting, I have no idea what happened.

3d IMAX is next in line for us!

I am glad they skipped over all that unnecessary origins exposition, and the regular movie goers don't seem to mind one bit. It seems it tells them all they need to know.
Worst thing about Voyager
in Star Trek: Voyager

I agree with you and could add more characters I dislike but instead I will add one more worst thing of a different sort, the poor portrayal of that Quadrants citizens. First the lowly Kazons seem to own most of it, then when they finally get out of their space, few species have anything more of interest to offer than they did.
Is it just me or do they go out of their way to avoid populated worlds to make First Contact with? I only remember them encountering isolated rogue factions hell bent on imprisoning unwary travelers for some insane reason. Of those only a couple stand out as memorable.
