  1. I think (other then TOS) all of the seasons took until season 3 to really find their feet. Each had good episodes in the first 2 seasons but starting with season 3 they took off.

I agree that it usually takes until season 3 for the series to finally get its space legs. I only wish that weren't so. You would think the writers and producers would have the series well planned out, stories well scripted and researched, characters fleshed out with back story (even if we don't know that story yet), etc. Sometimes I feel they have just sat around a table, someone gets a brilliant idea saying, " Hey, why don't we have (insert character) do this?", they write it and produce the next week.---I exagerate, but it does seem that they haven't put much thought into it.

I think this will be the same for Enterprise. As for the writers falling back on the Borg from a "block", I disagree. The story they wrote needed to be done, the Borg came to the earth back before Warp drive. The story was there, why not write it? I think they did quite well at it.

I'm not so sure REGENERATION needed to be done. IMO they fell back on a tried and true formula. Maybe I'm just a little tired of the Borg. However, even after some nit-picking, overall the script was fairly well written. I personally enjoyed the continuity established with FIRST CONTACT.

One place I think that assessment would fit better (a writers block) would be with bringing the Ferengi on in season 1. I really enjoyed that episode though and it didn't harm the timeline. (Neither did the Borg episode).

Writers block or not , I enjoyed the Ferengi. And you're right, the timeline remained intact. The episode provided many humorous moments with the characters, including T'Pol. We got to see the characters' sense of humor, and how they played off one another. It was what I call a fun little romp.

Lets see season 3, see the pattern holds true for Star Trek.

    I can't wait for season 3 to begin !

  2. In COLD FRONT (season 1) one of the religious pilgrims gave Archer a clock in appreciation for Archer's hospitality. (Archer had no clue as to how it works.) To me it looks suspiciously like the Suliban data disks Archer, T'Pol and Trip took from the Suliban ship in SHOCKWAVE PART I. (I haven't had time to go back and check the two episodes to see if they are alike.) I kept thinking during Part II that it would be used to help get Archer back to his time. Maybe the writers will remember it and use the clock in a future episode.

Did anyone else notice the clock and disks? Has anyone checked it out? Are they the same? Do you think the clock will be used in the future?

  3. I don't know about the popularity of ENT in my area, but let me add this:

I work in a university library in the US, and in my department alone there are 4 Trekkies/Trekkers out of a staff total of 6. This includes both the dept. head and the assistant librarian. In the other departments, there are an average of 2 per department. I would say Trek is alive and well here. And... who ever said librarians are dull and boring.

  4. Do you think there is a way they could work having Scott Bakula sing in an episode.  Maybe if he ever gets another romantic episode (hasn't been one since Civilization    ) he could serenade the girl.  What do you think?

I think it would be great. It would have to be well written, being within the context or situation in the story. Maybe singing Moonlight Serenade to a love interest?...

Scott Bakula has a nice voice. I enjoyed hearing him sing on Quantum Leap.

  5. I agree. The character has taken on some damage over the past two seasons. The writers seem to want to make him into a Gomer Pyle type character instead of a Southern Gentleman like Dr. McCoy. They need to give Trip a bit more dignity!

  6. Does anyone know how to convert our current dating system (month, day, year) into stardates and vice versa? I would love to start using Stardates with all my Trek friends, and just confuse the hell out of those who aren't.

  7. Both Tribbles episodes are at the top of my favorites list.

Some one told me that when when they were filming "Trials", Bashir was having trouble flipping open his communicator. A hand reached out from behind the set, taking it from him and proceeded to open it with that classic wrist flip. A voice in a thick Scottish accent said, "This is how is how you do it, Laddie". Needless to say it broke up the entire cast.

Does anyone know if this is true?
