  1. Wait a minute.  What about the Intrepid?  I think that was what it was called, the ship that got eaten by the giant ameoba.  Wasn't that a starfleet vessel?  It was crewed by Vulcans.

I thought Spock was the first Vulcan to attend the accademy on Earth, not the first Vulcan in Starfleet.  If Vulcan was a member of the Federation, wouldn't all their ships answer to Starfleet?

I DON'T KNOW ABOUT THE INTREPID......... BUT YOUR QUESTION ABOUT ANSWERING TO STARFLEET.........WELL THAT'S A GOOD ONE.......... I'D LIKE TO KNOW THE ANSWER TO THAT MYSELF......THE VULCAN'S ALWAYS SEEM TO WANT TO DO THINGS THIER WAY AND GIVE STARFLEET A HARD TIME ABOUT WHAT THEY DO.......SO, REALLY WHERE DOES EVERTHING FIT IN......

I don't know about the Intrepid.

This might answer your question about the Vulcan ships in Starfleet:

    ARTICLES OF FEDERATION

Chapter VII: Action with Respect to Threats of the Peace, Breaches of the Peace, and Acts of Aggression

    Article 45

    In order to enable the United Federation to take urgent military measures, all members so capable, shall assign contingents of their armed forces to Star Fleet to be employed as a single peace-keeping force of the United Federation of Planets. All contingents so assigned, and for the duration of their assignment, shall hold full faith and loyalty to the United Federation of Planets and the protection of the purposes and principles of these articles of Federation;

  2. OMG - I just watched the Jay Walking segment where he asked questions about the American Military and American History.  People laughed but it is really scary how poorly educated Americans are.

    A related news story:

    CNN

I saw that too. I thought it was deplorable. Aren't students being taught the basics in school any more?

  3. College Degrees Defined:

BS - (you know what BS is)

MS - More of the same

PhD - piled higher and deeper

I know so many people that this applies to!!

As for me, I would say I probably have slightly above average intelligence. (have never taken an IQ test except those standardized tests they used to give annually in school) I got A's and B's in school, from 1st grade through graduate school. I do feel I'm fairly resourceful with my knowledge and observations I make. I feel I have a reasonable amount of common sense. So...does that make me intelligent?

  4. I want to wish everyone a happy 4th of July. Not just the Americans, but everyone on the board(world).

The 4th of July (American Independance Day), should be a day for everyone around the world to celebrate their liberties and freedoms. In this day and age, with so many oppressed peoples around the world, those of us that are free, should be thankful for the freedoms we take for granted. We should also pause a moment to remember and reflect on those who fought and those who made the utmost sacrifice so that we may enjoy our freedoms.

Enjoy your fireworks. Enjoy you get-togethers and barbeques. But remember how and why we celebrate.

  5. Please forgive me if this is a dumb question.

Now that T'Pol has resigned her commission with the Vulcan High Command, and is no longer a Sub Commander (just a civilian like Phlox), what position does she hold besides Science Officer?  Is she still First Officer, or does Trip move into the spot having the next highest rank?

Maybe someone with some knowledge of the military and the chain of command therein can answer these questions. I guess I should have phrased my question as "According to military protocol and chain of command, will Trip become First Officer, since T'Pol has resigned her commission with Vulcan High Command and no longer holds any rank?" What would occur if this were the Air Force, Navy, etc.? (Starfleet ranks are based on Naval ranks.)

VBG, You were in the military. What do you have to say about it?

  6. VBG,

The countdown to Enterprise season 3 on the home page is really great!

Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!

    :dude:  :dude:  :(

Thanks, I thought it would be helpful for those of us who are "clock watchers" lol

Actually I have a paper version of it taped to my computer at work. Each day I pull off a number, counting down the days to the season premier. I did this between season 1 & 2, and I'm doing it again between 2 & 3. Thanks to you, I can now be sure my calendar is accurate.

   ;);) :(

  9. TOS - Kirk/Spock

    TOS movies - Kirk/Spock

    TNG - Data/LaForge

    TNG movies - Picard/Data

    DS9 - O'Brien/Bashir

    VOY - Seven/The Doctor

    ENT - Arcer/Trip

I think these have been the best duets!

My favorite: VOY - Seven/The Doctor

Reason: I dunno, I just think they had some of the most emotional stories.

I have to agree with you 99%!! For me the absolute best duet would have to be Kirk/Spock!!!

Ah, well, then I vote "stand alone episodes", but would like to see an ongoing story arc concerning the Romulan War which leads to the founding of the Federation.

OK, well, episodic plus 2 ongoing story arcs: TCW & Romulan War. Save the Federation's founding for the movies.

    TrekkieMage wrote:

But I don't want the show to be just about that plot arc. I'd like to see some stand alone episodes. I don't want the Suliban in every episode. Some variety is nice.

Captain Jean-Luc Picard and TrekkieMage, I agree with you.

I had to vote stand-alone episodes. Although I like a story arc, I don't want to see it dominate the series. The Dominion War on DS9 was a perfect example of that.

Saving the foundation of the Federation for the movies is not only an excellent idea, it fits the timeline better. If I'm not mistaken, the Federation is supposed to be founded in 2161. If Enterprise continues for it’s 7 seasons, it will conclude in the year 2158 or 2159, just a few years short of the foundation date. I would love to see the progress for the groundwork for the Federation -- How and EXACTLY why Earth, Andor, Vulcan,Tellar and Alpha Centari became allies, etc. Would prove interesting.
