  1. I voted sciences. I was/am always interested. I wanted to be an astronaut when I was growing up, but back then the astronaut training program was a military test pilot boys club so I didn't stand a chance.

Instead I went into the Arts. I'm a former Ballerina. Go figure!

  2. jdigs,

I take no offense to what you have said--everyone is entitled to their own opinion.

When I said that the writers should "copy" some aspects of FARSCAPE, notice I put that in quotes. I suppose what I should have said is that the writers should observe the writing style, character development, story development, etc. of FARSCAPE, and use some of the aspects that were successful, adapting them to ENT--not copying per se.

As for FARSCAPE not ranking up there with Trek, I have to disagree with you. I've been a Trekkie for a long time--approx. 35 years (back to when TOS first aired), and IMO FARSCAPE blew Trek and other scifi out of the water. I know I will anger MANY Trek fans by saying this. Don't get me wrong, I love Trek with all my heart.

When it came to writing, characters and their development, set design, general concept, photography, CGI, etc. FARSCAPE was much better than any of the Treks from the first episode. Particularly when it came to the characters--you felt they were multi-dimensional, "real" people from the first time you met them on the screen. I'm sorry that I can't say the same for Trek characters. They begin rather 2 dimensional and gradually flesh out over the course of several seasons.

I guess all I'm really saying is that I hope that B & B could learn something from the FARSCAPE folks (they could probably learn a thing or two from STARGATE SG1, too). I've been a little disappointed with the writing and character development. I realize its difficult to make something fresh and new when its been around for approx. 35 years. I only want ENT to be the best it can be.

Again let me say that I'm a die hard Trek fan, and love it with all my heart.

How long will I need to stay in the Brig, or will a simple demotion do?

  3. I personally think the series IS taking a more serious turn with season 3.

ENT as a series has gone back to the original feel of Trek--Exploration, wonder, excitement of going where no one has gone before. That is what initially attracted me to it. The series is still "new" and finding its legs.

When it comes to "feeling silly", all of the incarnations of Trek have been silly, and over time the overall feeling or texture of that given series has come through in a more mature manner.

I think with season 3 we will see the crew encounter serious issues and have to deal with the consequenses of their actions. My only hope is that Enterprise going into the Delphic Expanse isn't going to be a copy of FARSCAPE--Moya and crew going into the Unchartered Territories or Tormented Space. I will be extremely upset with B & B if they go that route.

What B & B need to study and "copy" from FARSCAPE is the overall writing style, development of characters, and development of story arcs that don't overtake the series, but instead provide an onderlying current.

  4. I've been a Trekkie for as long as I can remember - but I everything I read about the new season - I won't be watching anymore.  I think their comparisons to 9/11 may back fire on them and end the series rather than jazz it up.  We'll see.

whats wrong with the new season, it looks great, i cant wait. as far as comparisons to 9/11 thats ridiculous, how are there comparisons? an alien race attacked earth, and were going to get them before they can destroy us completely. thats a plot for hundreds if not thousands of movies, and shows before ENT, and after, ENT, before 9/11 and after 9/11. look at FIRST CONTACT, if you really want you can look at the borg as the terrorists, and picard as bush, they came to fight, then go back in time to wipe us out, and start earth as their planet. picard went in guns blazing and kicked butt, then had to do some clean up afterwards. if you look at a lot in life you can draw paralells to many things if you look hard enough. i think ENT is a great show, entertaining, and the more i read about the new season the better it looks. so just what is it you dont like? you've already seen that bakula, and blalock dont want, and arent going to have any intamacy. i just looks like a good, entertaining arc.IMO

    cptwright,

I think you hit the nail on the head!

  5. There was no point to "Marauders."  The Klingons should have just beamed back down behind the colonists and killed them.  It makes zero sense that they would back off in that situation.  ... Not a worthy follow up to the first four episodes of season two.

    I agree MoulinRouge.

They made the Klingons too stupid and too easy to outwit.

  6. I think promotion or leaving for home is better than killing them off.  It leaves things open and the character isn't gone, just 'away'.

Of course, it's hard to 'bring someone back' once they've left.  The writers have to come up with a 'believable senario' and going into an "alternate universe" just doesn't cut it with me.

If the actor/actress leaves for a valid reason, ie birth of a child, death of a realitive, taking care of a sick relative/child, etc, then I say by all means bring them back.  But if they're leaving because 'they can do better on the big screen' then I say kill them off.  The only reason they're 'big stars', or 'popular', is because people see them and love them every week.  The ego trip is a very hard vaction to come back from.  IMHO

    Katy

    I completely agree.

However I do miss the occasional red shirt/red stripe getting vaporized. If you have to kill someone off let it be a red shirt (i.e. an extra). This would add a little dimension to the characters and some reality to the series.

  7. As I said in my previous post I really like the ENT uniforms.

My project this summer is to replicate an ENT uniform for myself in full detail. This means creating a pattern from scratch as well as making sure all the zippered pockets are in the right places and the general cut of the uniform matches. I'm even going to try to make the rank bars myself since I can't find them anywhere. If anyone has already created an ENT uniform, I sure would appreciate some pointers.

  8. You mentioned exactly why I like them. They look like a continuation of NASA uniforms which in my opinion makes the show believable in a way that other Star Trek series could not possibly be. It is for the same reason that I like the interior of the Enterprise as well.

As for the uniforms looking more like TNG style... it's probably true, but I like to pretend that TOS uniforms did not exist.

    I agree with you.

I like the NASA/Air Force flight suit style for the Enterprise crew. I also like the functionality of the uniforms. You really get a sense that these are uniforms and not costumes.

I never liked the TOS uniforms. If you remember, after ST1 (the uniforms were horrible also) the uniforms were greatly improved in style. I can't say the same for their functionality.

  9. ensign_beedril,

I couldn't have said it better.

Ricardo Montalban is the only one who has the "style" to carry off the character.

    I voted for Kahn also.

I chose Khan.  He was a villain, but he had a sort of elegance about him.  Just from seeing him, the way he carried himself, you could tell he was an important person.  Without a word, he just demanded a certain deal of respect.  I can't help but respect him!  He's got that sort of... hypnotic effectKhanNoonienSingh_sm.jpg
