  1. I haven't been following the arguments for or against nudity on the show on this thread but I just wanted to add my to cents: if we look at how much our views on nudity have changed in the past 150 years, then you can imagine how Victorian we may appear to our descendants 150 years from now. Today in Europe, sport studios offer mixed saunas where men and women sit nude together with absolutely no problems. Nudity in swimming pools, lakes, beaches and parks is something natural, practiced by senior citizens, families with children and young people.  A moral hang up with nudity is really only seen in very conservative places like the Middle East, South America and the U.S.

A lot of classic Science Fiction has offered views of a future where nudity among men and women is nothing unusual, whether it's practiced in communal sports, a culturally acceptable practice (like the Betazoids in ST:NG) or as a normal leisure activity. We have to accept that women will be even more empowered in the future than they are now, and that sexual differences between men and women will continue to diminish. A hundred years ago, who would have expected women to serve in the military?

The only problem I have with Enterprise is that the women even bother to cover their themselves when in the decon chamber or in front of their fellow crewmembers. I don't expect that in 150 years from now, women serving on ships in close quarters with male crewmembers will really care if they are seen nude or not. Nudity is the most normal state to be in. I'm surprised this is causing such an uproar among folk here.

    I agree with that 100%Bath.gif

  3. My roomate watched the show and she was not impressed. I heard the British version is much better. I think its funny when a show does real well somewhere like Britain,American TV tries to duplicate it and they fail at getting the ratings they thought they would get. One thing is British TV (Actually most of European TV) is way more liberal than American TV and can get away with stuff that would never be shown here.

American TV is still very prudish when it comes to sex and nudity and yet in most other countries around the world its no big deal, some even have game shows where the contestants end up getting nakked!

Your post seems to imply that more sex and nudity would make the show funny. Since you're a professed nudist I hope you're not saying that naked people are funny.

Actually, clever writing, wit, and realistic behavior are the elements of genuine humor - in other words talent. We do see way too little of the latter in American entertainment.

I'm not saying nude people are funny (well I have seen a couple of funny nudist but thats another story)

I'm saying TV in other countries are a little more liberal about what they put on.I was watching a show about TV in other countries and this one British actor thought it was strange that it was not ok for a woman to show her breast but it was ok to show people getting shot in the head or blown up. He said in England its the opposite, he would prefer having their children see a show showing breast over a show that showed graphic violence as we have here.

Lets face it,America is still a very prudish place. Its bad to see skin and people showing affection,Its good to see death and destruction! very wierd!

For those of you that have a problem seeing nudity then please do not go to Europe, you'll freak out when you see the roadside billboards with beautiful nude women advertising bath soaps and other items.

I do admit alot of American TV need clever writing, wit, and realistic behavior, thats why I like watching the shows on BBC,they have all that and more.(I love British humor!

  4. Yes the girls in that shampoo add that are going "Ohh Yes yes!" and moaning, they are imulating an orgasm. If you don't know what that is,well you will one day,I guess after your married and you actually have sex, you'll definatly know what an orgasm is.

But thats off topic, I agree with many here. There has been no graphic sex on Enterprise.Running around the ship in your underwear is not sex (And alot of the men on board Enterprise have managed to runnaround a bit in their undies as well.) Getting a massage is not sexual (But it sure is relaxing!)

And I stand by my beliefs that DS9 showed way more sexual things than Enterprise ever has.

  6. Whats wierd is last night I was playing some music and I found a CD I haven't played in a long time and it was Robert Palmer's "Addictions" volume 2 CD,so I played it mainly because I hadn't heard it in awhile. This morning as I was getting ready for work I was listening to the news and they said he had died. I felt kinda wierd that I played his CD out of the blue like that after not playing it for a couple of years and then to find out he died last night too! Creeped me out

  7. Has any of you that think the massage scene is too sexy ever had a real professionl massage? Do you know that most massages are done with the person recieving the massage being naked or at least their underwear (Panties) lying under nothing more than a towel?

Its hard to give a good deep tissue massage with clothes on. I think its funny that a simple massage has been turned into this big sexual event by some of you. I love a good massage, there is a female friend of mine that has a permit for giving a massage and I get them from time to time,it feels great and its very relaxing and although I'm naked under the towel there is absolutly no sexual feelings or reactions coming from me or her, its strictly professional just as it is with T'Pol and Trip (Who are actually wearing more clothes than if they were getting a real life massage.)

  8. By appealing to the older established fan base and bringing the series closer into the Star Trek family.

In my experience with them unhappy about ENT (SSTC) the title has nothing to do with it. Their complaints are for the writing; re-hashing stories of people transmutating are not what they expected from ENT.

    Casting; many hate Bakula.

    The excessive sexuality.

Continuity; (the "Akiraprise"), the greatest fear with the continuity is that, to cause what we are seeing on ENT to line up with what we know about TOS, tptb are going to use time travel stories as an excuse to push the reset button resulting in "ENT never happened" or something like that.

Adding Star Trek to the title does nothing to address these concerns.

read what they say here SSTC

The title change does not bother me at all.

I don't understand why many hate Bakula as Archer, I think he's doing a great job!

As for the excessive sexuality, well I'm still waiting to see it,I haven't seen that much on here,so far its about equal with DS9, Voyager, and TNG

As for continuity,so far in my opinion the continuity is intact, there has been nothing much to cause it to be out of line with the other Star Trek shows. And Enterprise does not look like an Akira class vessel, the Akira class vessels look like the old NX-01 vessels. The 24th century starship designers thought the NX vessels were a good design so that decided to build new ships by upgrading an old design.

    I'm so easy!

  9. I just watched the first episode of the new show created by the folks that brought you "JAG",Its called "NCIS" they are like CSI, but they work on cases involving the military.

I liked it! I thought it was a pretty good episode. All the characters seem to be likeable, I really like the Gothic chick scientist that does the lab work.

Did anyone else see it? What did you think?

  10. I believe the Star Wars 'Death Star' was first seen long before the TNG episode "Relics" came out showing us the Dyson's sphere. I remember seeing "Relics" when it first aired and I was thinking: "That almost looks like the Death Star from Star Wars". "Relics" first aired in 1993 about 12 years or more after Star Wars showed us the Death Star.

So there really is no way the Death Star is a ripped off version of the Dyson Sphere.

  11. I'm sure you'll do great! I've been a techie for years, most recently the head techie! I was the Stage Supervisor for the Arizona Theatre Co. for 5 years, I was in charge of all the techies for every production. I spent 8 seasons as Crew Chief for the Lost Colony outdoor drama in North Carolina. I've worked on hundreds of shows backstage and every once in awhile I get to do some acting on stage. I've always thought Techies make better actors,at least we know the difference between Stage Right and Stage Left, Upstage and Downstage and we know what a spike is,you'd be amazed at how many just plain actors don't remember these things!

Break a leg and have a good run!
