Im not going to state the obvious but this all pure conjecture. Again, let's argue about the orange violets on saturn. Do they bloom in Winter or Summer? Do the pink magpies eat them or pick them to line their nest? Im mad you say? Well i must be! So anyway. Time travel....hmmmm. Now there's an interesting argument. Well here's what happens... no i'm right! Im sorry, but i am!

I think Riker and Troi would make good 24th century chat show hosts. She would become an alcoholic and he would have an affair and it would be all over the Federation news!
I bet that if you were on their ship though that you would kiss Deanna's @ss all the time because she was the Captain's missus. I would hate to be a married couple on a ship together because I think that you would be sick of each other after a while. I know married couples who love each other very much but have worked together in the past and it gets a wee bit ''argh!'' after a while. -
As was quite rightly pointed out in The Nitpickers Guide, I never can get over the whole shuttling for hours thing to a planet. I was watching the episode recently with Geordi going to Risa and getting kidnapped. He flies there at 10 kph in a crap impule shuttle. Why? The Enterprise could nip over there in a second and then drop him off. It's like me making you walk 20 kilometres to a cinema when I have a car and could easily drop you off in like half an hour. Worf even took a shuttle to his Klingon thing and Picard and Wes took one as well.

When TOS went off screen, a very popular show had been cancelled. There was still an appetite for it in a big way. People watched re-runs of Star Trek as that was all they had. When the first movie was released, it was very successful. Why? Because the majority of Americans loved Star Trek. Kirk and Spock were cult figures and expressions like ''Beam me up Scotty'' became infamous. The few episodes that existed were enough to keep this cult status alive. The 79 movie was something you had to see. New images of the Enterprise and those cult figures were great. Then came Star Trek 2. The public loved this. They werent bored with Star Trek cause this was still rae and new. The films were all rare and new. Like giant episodes you got to see once every two or three yeras. Then TNG came along. This too was new and built on the cult success of TOS. DS9 and Voyager flooded the market though. Too much trek! Too many characters. All too similar for the commercial viewer. Films of Star Trek too were now becoming too much. Oh them again! What now. I feel that this abundance of Trek has even engulfed the Original Series which still clings to its cult status as much as it can amidst the stigma of Voyager and co. No one wants to go see people on a screen that they see ebery day in re-runs.

:) Im fed up hearing about septemver 11. I think we should forget it and move on. Star Trek isnt an allegory for this. It's just fantasy. Fun to take us away from our problems as opposed to exploring them!

I nulled my vote since there won't be another TNG movie. :)That's a very smart answer. Not much fun though. :) B) B) :(

At it's time, The Next Generation was a great television programme with a cult following. Much like The X-Files in it's hey day. So therefore it was logical that movies would follow those series. Voyager was sort of a little brother that didnt really achieve this status and fed off the previous success of TNG. I therefore think it has neither the status nor the popularity to spawn a film amongst the general populace. And THAT is what counts when it comes to making movies. Asking if Voyager will have a movie is like asking if Charmed or some other show will get a movie. I know WE would like to see it. But that is not enough.

But that would have raised silly points like why does she arrive on some occasions and not others? I think it was better to just leave her out of it all together. Having a super human friend handy would have just weakened all future plots. When in trouble call Kes? 'The Kes Show': ''This week Voyager gets into trouble again and calls Kes for a change. She appears and saves them''. Hmm. Of course you are now going to disagree with this completely and ferverantly argue that your point is right and that it is a wonderful idea so I may just as well say, wow! Yes. Super Kes on every week. That would have been cool and she could have done stuff for them all the time. Saved them all the time. Yay. Great show!!! Voyager would have been much better then.

Before the arrival of Seven of Nine, we had a Voyager full of Kazon, Kes, crew divisions and multiple confusing anomolies. After Kes evolved into a super thing and flew away, a hole was left in the crew numbers. Step in, high heel first, the glam puss Seven of Nine!
Seven heralded the arrival of a new tone to Voyager. Janeway's bun crawled under the rock it came from, Chakotay learned how to smile, the Kazon thankfully were left behind and we had great new villans such as the Borg (did i say new???), the Hirogen and Species 8472. Voyager got a new astrometrics lab that let them look around better; forgot all about the silly bio-gel packs; and suddenly acquired a wide range of shuttles and photon torpedoes. The sense of impoverishment that gave the early episodes such a depressing feel were abandoned to give more rich story-lines and a nicer feel to the series.
Seven was almost the personification of this with her blonde hair and glitzy outfits. Although she had the personality of a pop sickle, her enormous knowledge and multiple capabilities gave Voyager an almost safety net when in trouble. If a gas cloud was attacking the ship or the shields werent holding, Seven could type in a couple of commands and hey presto! Another core breach averted.
Of course she wasnt just a glam super woman. She also had that whole human development thing going on. She may have seemed like an early T'Pol but underneath she was just an ickle girl whose mommy and daddy had flown after the Borg and ended up getting the whole family assimilated. Having spent her life as a drone and indeed that is how she turned up in Voyager - looking like someone who crashed into a Vacum cleaner delivery van. Removing the implants made her look almost human but a lot of her was still Borg. And what lay beneath that beautiful intelligent exterior was a frightened child. This too mafde for great drama and with the Borg becoming regular villans, she was the child that they wanted back.
Voyager went on to have better links with the Alpha Quadrant. Time travel, enhanced communications, views from Earth, flashbacks, alternate futures and so forth did more to remove the original premise of alienation that Voyager suffered from in the early days. The Seven years may be argued to have been the best and certainly her character rose to the fore as the most interesting and useful. Kes supporters will argue bitterly that that was a bad move but I thought that it was ok.
Seven f Nine will no doubt rise again in a Star Trek incarnation. Hopefully donning that turkey foil shrink wrap and arching a plucked eyebrow while blowing an enemy to pieces!

Deanna Troi first came to The Next Generation with her long hair and little mini skirt. She had a vaguely foreign accent and an exotic appeal. Along with Riker she was one half of the 'will they won't they' couple and to me appeared there as eye candy for the bridge. With his handsome First officer on one side and this beutiful young woman on the other, Picard say amidst a sumptious bridge in a pilot that heralded the arrival of the 'Next Generation' of Star Trek.
Deanna soon lost this cheer leader look and went on to don a horrific bun and brown leotard for the next series. She was to be the ship's counsellor - a nice 'girly' role - and as the whole love interest with Riker began to fade, she became a regular sight on TNG with her lttle outfits and sympathetic ear. She was to be empathic and not telepathic so she wasnt overly alien and so maybe more attractive in that respect. The out fits continued as the series went on and the hair came down. The accent softened and the character that was Deanna was soon firmly established as part and parcel of TNG.
Deanna went on like this throughout much of TNG. She was a friend of Will's and no more. She loved chocolate, had no idea what a reactor was and got possessed by evil demons or beings every once in a while. She was almost like Tawny on Galaxy Quest in that it was her hair, teeth and breasts that made her presence known on the ship with no real important purpose.
In the last season she toughened up - perhaps in time for the movies. She donned a regular uniform, took the bridge exams and became a full commander no doubt and was a little less 'bouncy' around the ship. She was still loveable eye-candy though and still the ships councellor. She had a relationship with Worf and in the alternate future ending to the series didnt have a lot to look forward to.
In the movies, her hair tones down greatly. She famously took the helm in Star Trek Generations and steered the ship into a planet. Though that wasnt her fault. She got drunk in First Contact, redated Riker in Insurrection and then married him in Nemesis. A perhaps overly late return to a plot device that was established 16 years prior, but necessadry to stoke up those movie viewing figures. She appeared in Voyager with Reg Barclay as well.
All in all, the character of Deanna couldnt be hated. How could you? She was inoffensive, nice to look at, and essential to the 'flying hotel' feel of TNG. As TNG hit the movies this pastel aerobics teacher look had to toughen up for the new military look of the show. In part, some of what was the character of Deanna was lost and something else was gained.

I agree that minor changes are fine. Major meddling may take away from the original story. The time and money could go into completely new episodes.

Erm, how many of these posts arethere now? I thought this had been done!

Well my favourite planet would obviously be earth. It has water, life, climate, blah blah blah. But i think you meant which other planet would be a favourite in which case i would say Mars. It has inspired sci-fi for years. Has that whole 'solid' thing going on and so forth. I read once that originally Spock was going to be from Mars. Thank the oompa loompas that that didnt happen. k

Hello all.
For the past three months I have had a job where I just sorta sit all day doin nothin. Because of that, and because I have internet access, I have spent much of my week days in here chatting with you and posting messages.
That job has ended today, and I have to go somewhere else. I dont have internet access at home and i dont know if i'll have it at my next job so this could be the last you hear from me! I will try to visit again soon and would like to thank you all for your responses to my posts and your interesting thoughts on Star Trek. You have relieved the boredom of a desk jockey and I am grateful.

Live long my friend, and prosper.

But it doesnt necessarily have to tie in with the other series. It could be sort of taking us back to season4/5 time. Voyages we never saw: no explanations or over complication.

Do you not thin k that the Next Generation films are resorting top too many gimmicks to hold our attention? I mean, new ship, Geordi's new eyes, Data's appearing then submerging emotions, no beard/beard, marriage, tanker tanmper etc etc
-
I pointed that out in a thread before.

What do you think of this? If it were so, what would you have in it? Enterprise D or E? A new character?
I would have the Enterprise D with that uniform as I think it would look better on animation. Barclay, O'Brien and other exra's would also feature more prominently. A half hour show with a little voyage every week. I think, all criticisms aside, that it would be fun and easy to make.

This is something I have always noted. I watched this episode on tuesday as I found it lying around on video. I think you just have to suspend your disbelief in oreder to enjoy what is otherwise a very touching storyline. Another flaw pointed out was the fact that this society that didnt even have a decent telephone system could manufacture a probe that could scan an alien's brain and transmit 40 years of memory in a second! But anyway. The episode was very touching and I loved the ending. Maybe the memories faded into a little ball in the back of Picard's brain, afterwards - a sort of time concentrate or something so that the 40 years of experience actually took up little in his brain afterwards and became a memory only. Like a dream.

Well kids. Remember, it's important to keep a balanced perspective. The original question was should they be revamped? Some have sais yes and some have said no. So the answer would be yes: revamp them but one section wont want to see them and the other will.

I think it was a mistake to pick Scott Bakula for the role of Archer. He will always be Sam Becket to me. I think the character is wooden and undistinguished. I would like to see him shuttle out of there and Trip or someone else take over. Captain Kirk: the great grandfather of James T did I hear you say? Arrrrrrrrgggggghhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!!!
