  1. And does anyone want to start on how Riker & Troi’s possible baby might look like? (Just in terms of eyes, hair, and skin)

Well, that sounds cool. If we're going to be "drawing" squares, it might be useful to use Courier font. In that font, every character is the same width, so things will line up better.

    Hmmm, this should work... testing...

  2. Having someone scream in space(without them wearing a space suit) would bug me to no end if I were to see that in a movie or TV show! you are serious about taht aren't you ensign beedrill?

Serious about it bugging me? Yeah! I mean, I can accept it all the same... I know it's not real... but still. Sound doesn't travel in space. I think it would have been funnier if the doctor started screaming but we didn't hear his voice. I don't know. Maybe I have a strange sense of humor. But the no spacesuit part didn't bother me. He's a hologram... he doesn't need one.

  3. ["Measure of a Man" was not on there?! That is a shame because it is the best Data episode... ever! Alright, alright, everyone's got their own opinions. And I read that stuff about Picard. I agree, it was a little about Picard... but hey, he's the cap'n. You have to expect him to intrude on other peoples' episodes. It's his job.

I just think this really shows who Data is. To us, he's a person. He's a real person just like any of us. And that's who he is to the Enterprise crew. A friend, someone they can trust and count on, someone they can play poker with. But when you step outside of the Enterprise, you see how everyone else sees him. A machine. A walking computer. Nothing more. And I think it really reminds us that he is much more than that. Picard's speech was so moving and beautiful. And it had such a powerful ending.

This also happens to be one of my favorite TNG episodes in general. Just because of that impact it had on me. It left me thinking... wow. Those are the ones that tend to be my favorites. The ones that leave me thinking for days after. Of course, it could be one of my favorites because it revolves around my favorite character...

  4. I don't think space tourism is such a great idea right now... with what we have. Maybe, in the future, if we can make some sort of "space bus" and take people around in that... yeah. But right now with just a shuttle? Wow, those things are small. They're not made for many people.

And like Yillara_Soong was saying. There are people who work so hard for this. People who live almost their whole lives wanting to be astronauts. They go through all of this training and rigorous courses and things. It just doesn't seem right to just send up someone who can pay the money. There are some things you have to earn... for some things there are no short cuts.

    Would I pay $15,000 to go up in space? No. If I ever have that much money available, I'll put it towards a house or a car. Plus, I would be scared out of my mind to do that! And I get motion sickness. -.-;;

I'm not totally against the idea. I just don't think we have the resources to do it now. I think that right now, the only people who should go to space are the astronauts. And later, when we have better resources and things, maybe then we can start thinking about tourism.

  5. Coca-Cola all the way! Though I am very fond of Vanilla Coke. ^-^ I don't drink colas all that often, though. Mostly when I'm out at a restaurant. If it's a place that only sells Pepsi products, I'll have a Pepsi, but I think Coke tastes better.

We call it soda in Northern Virginia, too. I either call it soda, cola, or carbonated beverage.

And I was just wondering... does anyone else think that Diet, Caffiene-Free Coke is pointless? Really, it's just brown, carbonated water.

  6. i dont if youve heard of the "glass ceiling" but its a term to describe when someone is discriminated for some reason and cannot move upward because of this discrimination... could this be the case?

Perhaps. But think about the time period. In the future, they've pretty much done away with discrimination. I mean, it's still there, there's no way to ever really eliminate it, I don't think. But, this is the idealistic future, where things are better than they are today. And I don't think Captain Janeway's that sort of person, anyway.

  7. There is no sound in space, but there's sound in your living room (or wherever the TV is) and that's good enough for me! Besides, the woosh doesn't bug me as much as when the Doctor was yelling in space in the Voyager episode,"Basics" (Part I). Did anyone else notice that? It bugged me a great deal. He accidentally got projected out into space, and he's yelling things like "Help!" That is what bugs me. The wooshes and the other sound effects are OK, though. Strange, how I can accept one and not the other, eh?

Oh, and here's a... creative way to explain the woosh thing. Follow the link. "Wooshing in Space"

  8. Well, I've always wondered about this...

Picard will say "Transporter room, beam those people out of there." Being very general. And I always wondered how that transporter guy knew who "those people" and "there" were. I hear him say it a lot. He probably makes general remarks to other departments, too, but I can't think of any right now. I was just wondering how those transporter guys are so smart. If someone told me to "beam those people out of there"... I'd say "Who? Where? What?" And by that time, the shuttle, or whatever it may be, will have exploded and "those people" will be dead.

  9. Oh boy, I remember this! Yeah, one of the few things I do remember from biology. ^-^;; But I think his name was Gregor Mendel.

This sounds fun. So you're going to talk about Punnet Squares and things? Great. Genetics was one of my favorite parts of biology, too. I also liked the cells. The cells were pretty neat. I think it's all because deoxyribonucleic is just such a fun word to say.

  10. np, ensign_beedrill. I know. I was pretty annoyed when I found out too...I guess that's what box sets are for...(although they sure are a lot more expensive)

Someday when I get rich, I'll get those boxed sets. For now I'll just have to wait. ^-^;; But Spock said this once... "Having a thing is not so pleasing as wanting; it is not logical, but it is often true." Er... I butchered that quote, but the meaning is still there.

  11. Sure robots/computers could end up taking over the world some day. It happened in The Matrix. Well... that's fiction... but still...

But Xenexian, I think you would still be human. Even with cybernetic parts. As long as you kept your mind. Your brain. Because I think that... that is what makes us human. It's our mentality, the way we think and act. As long as you keep that part of you, you will always be human.

  12. I once took for fun a Cisco Networking course. I just took 2 semesters, but it was really interesting. The first semester really focuses on the OSI Model and the second semester on Cisco Routers. So if you or anyone wanted to really dig into something like the OSI Model then Cisco is a good choice. (And if you want you could even go as far to complete the four semesters and get the CCNA Certification {that's Cisco Certified Networking Associate})

    Master Q

    StarTrek_Master_Q@yahoo.com

Yeah, I wanted to do Cisco, but I don't have the two years to do it with. I wish I could. Instead I'm taking a class to get A+ certified. So that should be interesting. I'm also going to take a computer graphics and multimedia... just because I want to see what it's like. And something with an insanely large name that's basically solving technology problems.

  13. Actually, and this is the honest to god truth, the original series theme sone did have lyrics.  Unfortunately, it was so bad the decision to use a sund version for the tv show was thankfully nixed.  I once heard a bootleg copy of the song and I have to say that my dog howling sounded better.  I could have sworn that it was sung by Mrs. Miller.  I'm sure that it exists somewhere out there yet but trust me, you don't need to search this one out.

I know... my mom sings it sometimes when we're watching the theme... The only words I remember are "My love is waiting for you" or something like that. I've never heard the original version... but I can say without hearing it, that it's probably better the way it is. It doesn't sound like a song that would or could have words to it. And I just think its fine the way it is. Plus, it started a trandition of no-word themes. At least until Enterprise, but I think that was tastefully done. The words and the pictures fit so well. And I think it kind of is a nice break from tradition. The theme kind of illustrates how the whole show (well, in my opinion at least) is a break from tradition. Four series have had no-word themes, and pictures of their ships (or stations in DS9's case!) floating lazy in space and then warping off to new adventures. Enterprise does warp off at the end of the song, and I think that's a wonderful little nod to tradition. It kind of says "Yeah, we're going to be a little different, but we're still Star Trek, and there are some traditions you just don't break." Maybe I'm being a little too analytical... Heh...

  14. It means that they dont cut  out any part of the episode. When showing re-runs, some parts are often cut out so there is more time for money making adds (disgusting. Depriving us of our Trek for adds people don't even watch :P)

    What do you mean, Alterego?

Wow, I didn't know that. Thanks. I feel cheated now. ^-^ Hah, oh well.

  15. There are two computers in my house. The one I'm using now... the one with the modem... and then mine.

I built mine. It has a geniune Intel motherboard, a Pentium II processor, 128 MB of RAM, about 6 GB of hard drive space, and it runs Windows 98. It's nothing special, really, except for the fact that I built it and I love it to pieces. Well, not literally pieces... but... yeah... And it is so much better than my old one... a 486 with... 8 MB of RAM. And you could hardly do anything on that... just Paint and write in Notepad. And the all important Minesweeper. Heh, that thing had one of those huge five and a quarter floppy drives. Those things are cool.

This one has an AMD Duron processor, 320 MB of RAM, about 11 GB of hard drive space, and it also runs Windows 98. Again... nothing special, I suppose. It's about five years old, and, as you said, a lot can advance in technology over that period of time. But it's had a few upgrades... and we've added a new CD-drive with ReWritable capabilities. I haven't had a chance to use it yet, though.

I personally don't know much about networking. I wish I could take some classes on that, though. It would be something neat to study. I am fascinated by computers and technology, and I hope to go into the IT field. Currently, I want to be a programmer. It's just something that I love doing. But I hope to learn a lot more about the inner workings of computers and such. Programmers don't really get much insight into that. We just expect it all to work. ^-^;; But I'd like to know a little more about how it works. So I'm going to take a few more computer courses next year (I have some more room to allow for them in my schedule.) Yeah, it's going to be fun.

  16. Aw, Bev rocketh. Much more than Pulaski. She was always so mean to Data. And just because he was an android. Doesn't seem right, to me. It's like... she had this kind of attitude that just because he doesn't have feelings it means that she can't hurt them and she can say anything she wants to him. Well... I just don't think that's right. And she always seemed like she had a superior attitude. And she was so darn stubborn. That one time she was convinced those kids weren't the cause of some disease... and she just had to find out and proove herself... Yeah, she really got what was coming to her. I'm glad they figured out a way to help her, though... I don't like it when people die. But yeah, I like Crusher so much better.

  17. This week's time travel bonus treks are "Relics" and "Cause and Effect".  I'm really looking forward to this.  I like both episodes but "Cause and Effect" is one of my daughter's favourites.

I am hoping that because now they are going for "Trek uncut" on friday nights that they will add some two parters (Like maybe next month have Best of Both Worlds, Chain of Command, Times Arrow, or maybe Redemption) to the mix of uncut.

Of course this is all irrelevent because I can watch these episodes anytime on DVD, but for those who don't have the DVD's it would be night. ;)

I've seen advertisements for this "Trek Uncut," and I've watched a few... but... what's the uncut part mean?

  18. Well, it's called underscoring... I think. And usually the music is just there to enhance the mood. Like dramatic music that causes you to tense up during a suspenseful moment, or soft, flowing music during a sad scene. It just helps to develop the mood. But... the intro to Enterprise has words...

  19. Well, I haven't seen very much of DS9. They used to run it here at 3:00 in the morning, and I taped it... but now they don't show it at all. But I think Voyager had a great cast. I think that the crew on Voyager are more of a "family" than any other series I've seen. It probably comes from being so far away from everything they know. And Q said it best when he told Janeway, "You've certainly been a mommy to this crew." ("Q2") I think she really is a mom. She's more like a mom-captain than just a captain. Anyway, I think it is overall a great cast. Neelix is pretty annoying, but I've learned to tolerate him. The only one who could use some work is Chakotay. Seven has more of a personality than him. He's a great person, and a great first officer and everything... he just needs a little more personality.

  20. I have a funny quote if you all don't mind...

"At a Star Trek convention, there are 2,000 to 3,000 people and maybe about 25 who have uniforms and make-up on. The rest are just people who watch Star Trek and enjoy it. They are not anywhere so peculiar as football fans. Nobody ever gets hurt at a Star Trek convention." --Brent Spiner

Yeah, I always liked that one. The web site I got it from is gone now, though. It was a CNN article. But, yeah, I think that's true. Football fans are way more peculiar than Star Trek fans. No offense if you like football, but I think it's just... a very boring game.

You might want to kill me for this, but this is something I've been needing to know ever since forever. And I guess you would be the people who could give me the answer. How do you pronounce "Spiner?" Is it like... Spine er or is it more like Spin er?

  21. Wow, that was a lot to look through! I didn't read it all, because time is limited, so forgive me if I say something that was already said.

Data's awesome. He is my favorite character in all of Trek. (With Spock as a very close second.) I just think he's such a dynamic character.

Has anyone seen that episode of Frasier with Mr. Spiner in it? I saw it mentioned at StarTrek.com, so I taped it and watched it. That was hilarious. "You both look so pale!" I think it was called "A Friend for Lilith."

"Skin of Evil" is a sad, sad episode. I like Tasha. She was cool. I wish she could have stayed. I like her hair. I also like Janeway's hair (in the later seasons when it's short). If I had the courage to cut my hair short, I'd get it cut either like Tasha's or Janeway's. But... I don't think I could ever get my hair cut short. It'd just be too weird for me.

Getting back on topic... this is a very cool idea... the whole thread I mean.

  22. I think it will continue. I guess they have problems and such, but they still need to work things out. I mean, it's only been around for less than two years. This is something before TOS, something these folks have never tried before. I say we should give them at least some room. You know how it is when you try something new. You're not so good at it at first. But then, after a while, after practice, you get better and you can even get to be an expert. Just give them time. The original Star Trek was canceled after just three seasons. I think that was a shame. And it would be a shame if they canceled Enterprise. Lots of people didn't really like TNG when it first started, right? I think it was probably the people who were loyal to the original series and couldn't stand the thought of another Trek. But TNG took off, continued for seven seasons, and inspired two spinoffs that each went on for seven seasons. I think that if Enterprise is given a chance, like the others, it will become better, (not to say that it isn't good already, because it is ^-^;:wow: and it will take its place in Trek history along with the rest.

  23. I kinda think Ent will end with the formation and we won't actully see it, cuse we already see what happens after it's formed.  I predict the last scene of Ent is going to be on the Bridge of a badly damged NX-01, with a Vulcan escort back to Earth after the last heavy battle with the Romulans, T'Pol leaves for Vulcan when they get back to Earth and the rest of the crew excluding the doctor who left with T'Pol, Archer plunks down in his chair with sparks and pieces falling around him, and Trip and Reed just just look at each other, cut to an external shot of the ship we see the Ent in Earths orbit, the Vulcan ship un docks and flys off, then the end credits roll and thats it, with 2-3 movies.

    Mmmm, how romantic.
