  1. It's taken me a few days to read through all of this. But it was very interesting. Is this still a discussion on time travel? Heh.

I used to think about time travel a lot. At one time, I wrote down all of my theories, but I don't know where they are now. Most of them contradicted each other, anyway. 0.o

Here's the current one: Time travel is, most likely, impossible. Because the present is the present, and there is nothing but the present. There is no past, there is no future. There are things that happened in the past that we remember, and things that will happen in the future, but the future and the past... don't really exist. All that exists is the present, the now. Once a second goes by, you can never go back to that second. It's like blowing up a building. Once it's gone, it's gone, and you can't go up the the eleventh story anymore.

    Anyway, I'll probably believe something different tomorrow. ^-^;;

I have two questions though, if anyone wants to answer them.

    1. Say we have space craft that can travel near the speed of light. Not at the speed of light and not faster, but near. Say about .9c. That's pretty close. Time slows down the closer you get to c. So, you take this craft and fly in it at .9c for a long time while many many years pass by outside. You finish your flight and slow down and go back down to Earth. You yourself haven't aged very much, but Earth and the people on it have. Do I have this right? Could this happen? And if so, would it be considered time travel?

    2. Nothing can travel faster than the speed of light, right? What about this? You have a turntable and a laser attached to the end shining out at some distant mountains. There is a little red spot on those mountains... that's the laser light. Now you spin the turn table. The spot travels faster than the laser on the turn table because it's farther out and has to cover more distance in the same amount of time. Say that the mountains are so far away, that the spot would have to travel faster than the speed of light. Is this possible?

  2. ooh, I have to hear that - was it a good thing or what (about Data...:D)

Oh yeah, it was a good thing. It was in the episode called "Prototype." She finds a robot. And this type of robot was used by their creators for working and such things. And B'Elanna told him that where they come from, they treat everyone equally. That there was an anroid much like him on another ship who was treated the same as everyone else. The robot asked what his name was and she said that it was Data.

  3. I found this interesting.

The language created for the "Star Trek" TV series and movies is one of about 55 needed by the office that treats mental health patients in metropolitan Multnomah County.

"We have to provide information in all the languages our clients speak," said Jerry Jelusich, a procurement specialist for the county Department of Human Services, which serves about 60,000 mental health clients.

Although created for works of fiction, Klingon was designed to have a consistent grammar, syntax and vocabulary.

And now Multnomah County research has found that many people -- and not just fans -- consider it a complete language.

"There are some cases where we've had mental health patients where this was all they would speak," said the county's purchasing administrator, Franna Hathaway.

County officials said that obligates them to respond with a Klingon-English interpreter, putting the language of starship Enterprise officer Worf and other Klingon characters on a par with common languages such as Russian and Vietnamese, and less common tongues including Dari and Tongan.

  4. heres another question what's everyone's favorite TYPE of pizza?

mines hawiaan (ham and pineapple) from little ceasars and the taco pizza from panago

Mmmm, Hawaiian is my favorite, too. Some people think I'm crazy because of it, though. I remember going out to a pizza place with my aunt and uncle when I was little. They asked me what I wanted and I said Hawaiian. They had never heard of it, so I told them it was pineapple and ham. They thought pineapple on pizza was the strangest idea ever. But it's good! My second favorite is pepperoni. Yummy.

  5. Yeah, dsbs, when I really get into an episode, I have to wonder if they're going to make it out of this one. It always seems they find an answer at the last possible moment. And they keep coming back. You defeat them, but they keep coming back. And stonger than before.

Since I have never seen them in any series other than TNG or First Contact, since I ONLY watch TNG...

Only TNG? Aw... try catching some of the others when they're on TV some time. They're pretty good. I can't say much for DS9 because I haven't seen very many episodes. (It doesn't air where I live.) Though the ones I have seen have been entertaining. I wish I could see more. T.T But I've seen lots of the others and they are really good. Plus, it's really cool when they cross over the series. Riker was on Voyager once. ^-^;; And B'Elanna was talking about Data one time.

  6. Of the ones listed, I chose Dominos. Pizza Hut is just bad pizza, I think. Dominos is just... better. I also like Papa John's. Mmmm... garlic sauce! But the best pizza I ever had was real, genuine Italian pizza. I visited Italy one time, and I could not get enough of the pizza! I'd just order a pizza, a whole big one, and eat it all. It was so good. They make it and it's fresh! Fresh tomatos for the sauce, fresh dough, fresh cheese, and cute pepperonis. They're small and spicy. MmmmMmmm. Never had better!

  7. Told everyone I would be right back, good I set up the poll properly..

I personally voted other since the Pizza Hut and Dominoes here in my hometown are not very good....My personal choice is Hungry Howies, and if I can't get downtown for that pizza I like the local Alfonso's or DeLeon's. And we are going to have a CiCi's Pizza in our new shopping center! My brother and sister say that resteraunt is AWESOME!!

Yeah, CiCi's rocks! For two reasons. Great pizza and things at a low price. And... one of the ones I went to had a Star Trek Voyager arcade game. I burned a few quarters on that one. It was great!

  8. I do not think that the Borg have been "wussified." They always scare me when I see them. They are always adapting, always getting better. You think you finally have the technology to beat them and BAM! they come out with something more sophisticated. Every time a ship encounters the Borg, they have a tough battle. And at some points, it seems that it might be impossible to get out of such a fix. It's hard to defeat the Borg, and it shows in each episode dealing with them. The ship barely gets away, and usually they have to conduct extensive repairs. The Borg will always be formidable foes. They will never lose their intimidation factor. At least not for me. I'm always at the edge of my seat when I see them.

  9. Country all the way! I love the sound, I love the artists, and I love the stories behind the songs. Lots of country songs have stories to tell and morals to give. And most of the time, it's from the heart. Plus, you can understand what the people are singing! ^-^;; Well... most of the time. I couldn't live without my country music. I have the radio on almost all of the time. My favorite singer is Garth Brooks.

I also like classical, and I flip the radio to the local classical station from time to time.

  10. I chose DS9's badge. It's rectangular, or an immitation of rectangular. And squares and boxes just appeal to me more than circles. And, it's Voyager's badge, too. Voyager/beginning of DS9 had the coolest uniforms.

  11. I went into a chocolate shop a long time ago. And they had chocolate covered... everything! Half dipped in white chocolate, and half-dipped in white chocolate. They had chocolate dipped potato chips! I thought that was a little... much.

Yeah, I've seen this green and purple ketchup. I've actually tasted it. It doesn't taste any different, but it looks so gross that it makes you think it tastes bad. I'm no fan of different colored ketchup. Or butter. I think I saw a commercial for pink and blue mayonaise one time. Or it might have been butter. I don't know. But cheese... cheese already is colored. We color it yellow. Cheese is actually white. But yeah... purple cheese sounds a bit... strange.

  12. That's true...all they would have had to do was say "hey look, Troi's at yet another phycology convention" and we would have let it go!

But if she was there, she wouldn't have been that useful anyways..."Captain, I sense hostility on this ship. Comminging from...someone...on this ship!"

    Ha! Troi would say that, wouldn't she? She always seems to point out the obvious. ^-^;;

  13. Well, I found a few pictures. Some of these are large, and I didn't want to take up space, so here are some links.

    Riker and Troi

    Riker and Troi (again)

    Riker

    Riker's father

    Troi

    Troi's mother

I couldn't find one of Troi's father. I know he was in "Dark Page" when she was inside her mother's mind. Also, the picture of Riker's father doesn't show his eyes very well. He was in "The Icarus Factor." Does anyone have pictures, or even just a good memory?

  14. Once I read a book called The Android (the tenth book in a series called Animorphs by K.A. Applegate) about a group of kids who fight to save the Earth from an invasion by evil aliens. Actually, it's a series. Anyway, they have this friend and he's an android. He is very powerful and very strong, and would make a great fighting ally, but he is incapable of violence. He can't harm anybody. His creators made him that way. Well, these kids find a way to help him turn off these limitations, and he fights in a battle with them. Afterwards, he can't stand it. He can't stand what he'd done... that he'd killed people. He asks them to put those limits back in place. They do. He then talks to one of the kids, asking him how they deal with it all. He said that it's hard, but over time, they just try to forget. And the android said that he couldn't forget. If he lived for a million years he wouldn't forget. It would always be there, fresh in his mind. Because he's an android, and they can't forget.

I don't know about Lore. I'd hate to see him as a good guy, because he makes an excellent bad guy. ^-^ But if he were to turn good, he'd have those memories always in his mind. He's not human, he can't forget. He can't just shove them away as we would. They would always be there, easily accessible. And I think that would get to him. It would hurt him a lot more than if he were human.

  15. Everyone has been making such good points! When I enter into a debate, I try to add something new, because it's boring to read repetitions of what has already been said. But you've not left much open! I'll try...

Yes, maybe it was discrimination. We saw that the Enterprise crew greatly respected Data and viewed him as a friend. However, when we looked outside the Enterprise and saw Data as Starfleet saw him, we got a totally different view. Two episodes I can think of off the top of my head are "Measure of a Man" and "Offspring." We saw that Starfleet didn't think Data was much more than a bunch of circuits and such. So it certainly could have been discrimination on Starfleet's part, but certainly not on the crew's part. They knew Data to be more than circuitry. Starfleet didn't.

Another reason might be that he was just passed over. This happens in the real world all of the time. People are very qualified for promotions. Perhaps even more qualified than others, and when its time for promotion lists to come out, their name's not on it. I don't think it's any form of discrimination... people are just looked over. Now, it's kind of hard to explain that one for seven plus years, but... it's something.

Also, I think that if Data was promoted, he would have moved off the Enterprise, maybe to become some other captain's first officer. I'm sure Data didn't want to leave. And Picard... well... where would Picard be without Data? He certainly didn't want Data to leave. Sometimes you have to make compromise. Maybe he sacrificed getting a promotion so that he could stay with the ship and his friends.

    Just a few thoughts.

  16. OK... that was my first time trying to change font. ^-^;; I'll try once more and if that doesn't work... does anyone know how to do this?

    Testing...
