  1. I was surfing for lyrics for songs...from various anime's since I love the original formats of the songs(no subbing, no dubbing...just purely Japanese)...and came across one of my favorite songs from the English soundtrack/translation of Pokemon...I have loved this song for a long time, and with the state of affairs in the world today, I figured I would share. Since it is the full song lyrics, it is in the spoiler below..

    Mmm, I actually have that CD! The first movie was the best one. I got the soundtrack and was disappointed that there were only really four songs from the movie on it. If you don't count that weird short, only two. Most of it's really not my kind of music. But I do like that "Brother, My Brother" song. 'Specially in the movie. It's so sad!

    Oh, and if anyone wants to get to Target, they've marked down prices for their Nemesis action figures! I got a Data action figure for $2.99! Bargain! I knew good things came to those who wait. Anyway, here's the strange thing. On the box, it says Lieutenant Commander Data, but on his collar, he has the rank of a full commander. Hmmm... mystery...

  2. For those of you disputing the quote, I have it right here from it's original source, the Bible.

    "But godliness with contentment is great gain. For we brought nothing into the world, and we can take nothing out of it. But if we have food and clothing, we will be content with that. People who want to get rich fall into temptation and a trap and into many foolish and harmful desires that plunge men into ruin and destruction. For the love of money is a root of all kinds of evil. Some people, eager for money, have wandered from the faith and pierced themselves with many griefs." -- 1 Timothy 6:6-10

    Here's one of my favorite quotes about money:

    "This planet [Earth] has - or rather had - a problem, which was this: most of the people living on it were unhappy for pretty much of the time. Many solutions were suggested for this problem, but most of these were largely concerned with the movements of small green pieces of paper, which is odd because on the whole it wasn't the small green pices of paper that were unhappy." -- Douglas Adams, The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy

    I agree that a barter economy might not be feasible. Some things are not as wanted as others. Say, for instance, that there's a guy who makes cheese. So he trades cheese for the things that he needs. But not many people like cheese. They don't want it. They don't want to trade with him. Poor guy, now he doesn't have what he needs. See the problem? With money, we have that covered. Money is something everyone can want. I don't know much about economy, but I think that's a good analogy...

    But what about replicators. If everyone has a replicator, what's the need for money? You can just... replicate what you need. That's the part I don't get.

    If you don't have to work in order to receive clothing, food, entertainment etc why would you get up and go to work.

    Maybe in the future, humans will be more driven. I'd work for no money if I had everything I needed, as long as it was a job I liked. Maybe the knowledge that they are furthering the development of mankind is all the payment they need. Maybe it's the satisfaction of a job well done. Maybe it's the satisfaction of doing something for others. Things do not always need to be done for material gain.

  3. I just did not like him he up staged all the adults.  All these people with all this traning and its the little kid that figures it out come on

    So when do the thoughts of kids become as important as the thoughts of adults? When do the ideas of kids become as valuable as the ideas of adults? He was a smart boy with a very creative mind. Even the smartest adults miss things sometimes. It's only human to miss something to a problem when you're looking at it so closely. So Wesley picks something up that other people miss every once in a while. It happens all the time. So what's the difference if an adult picks up the missed thing, or if a kid picks up the missed thing? I fail to see.

  4. My favorite female character was Seven of Nine, followed by Tasha Yar and Captain Janeway.

    I think they were treated equally. Except for the tight suits they always seemed to be wearing. Or, in TOS's case, those über-miniskirts. Gosh, those were short!

    They never did much with Uhuras character in TOS, which was a shame

    Well, it wasn't just Uhura. Kirk, Spock, and McCoy usually got the most development. The others weren't as fortunate. Scott, Uhura, Chekov, and Sulu were great characters, and it's a shame that not much was done with any of their characters. And Chapel, too, even though I wouldn't consider her a main character.

  5. Would you agree that Picard was perceived differently after The Big Goodbye.

    I might have viewed him a little differently. It did show another side to him. The fun side. It seems that he's always so serious, as a captain should be, but maybe a little too serious. It was nice to get a glimpse into what he does for recreation.

    The talk about lack of holodecks on Enterprise brings something interesting to mind. TOS didn't have holodecks, but that didn't stop them from having "holodeck type" adventures. Ever notice how a lot of holodeck programs revolve around historical events? Now, remember all of those TOS episodes where they found a planet that just happened to be just like some aspect of old Earth? There was the gangster planet, the Nazi planet, the Roman planet, and the planet with the people who came up with an exact replica of the Constitution of the United States (among other things). There was that one where they were in the old west. One where they found Earth, but the only people on it were children. They met a Greek god one time. And don't forget all the times they went back in time to old Earth! They could do something like that with Enterprise if they miss holodecks so much!

  6. I chose Khan. He was a villain, but he had a sort of elegance about him. Just from seeing him, the way he carried himself, you could tell he was an important person. Without a word, he just demanded a certain deal of respect. I can't help but respect him! He's got that sort of... hypnotic effect.

  7. I voted math. A hard choice between that and physics, though. I like physics a lot, but in the end physics relies on mathematics.

    "The language of physics is mathematics." I don't know who said that, but I seem to remember it from somewhere.

    Does anyone think physics should be spelled with a 'z?' Phyzics? I think that looks so much better.

  8. I am not a Neelix fan, at all. He's whiny and annoying and... annoying. He's my least favorite character in all of Trek. I really hate the way he's always bothering Tuvok.

    But he does sort of grow on you, doesn't he? I still hate him, but I don't hate him that much. Does that make sense? He is very kind and generous and good with the kiddies. He always adds humor and lightness to a dark time. And he's always cheerful. So he's got some good qualities along with the bad. It's just that the bad outweigh the good. ^-^;;

    And I wouldn't try his food for any sum of money.

  9. Anyone noticed how the earlier seasons of TNG was more violent than later? In Datalore Lore started kicking Data in the head, Conspiracy and Skin of Evil are other examples.

    Do you think it was a g ood or bad thing and why do you believe the series changed over time?

    That sounds like a great new topic. You might get more replies if you post it as a new one rather than here.

  10. In an online community I'm a part of, a post was made that simply said this:

    Okay, here's a question I know some people have strong feelings about:

    Holodeck based episodes. Good or bad?

    Discuss.

    I think this is a great topic. As the original poster stated, people have some strong feelings about this one. I'd like to hear your opinions on this. Here's what I said:

    Holodeck episodes are great. Even if some of them are a little repetitious. They give the writers a chance to write about something other than spaceships and aliens and phasers. With holodecks, they can go back in time, recreate anything, explore topics that could not otherwise be explored on a starship. Most gave great insight and made for a great plot. "Elementary, Dear Data," for example. It made me think so much after I watched that. What is life? Who are we to judge? What would it be like to be stored in a computer? Holodecks take the viewer far beyond the confines of space and time, and into a limitless world of imagination where anything can (and most often does) happen.

    "Ship in a Bottle" again stretches your mind around new concepts. "A Fistful of Datas" and "Fair Haven" serve as a reminder that life in Starfleet is not always battles with Romulans and other hardships, but can be fun and entertaining. "Our Man Bashir," "The Killing Game," and "Worst Case Scenario" make for fun and exciting adventures.

    There are no limits with Holodecks, which makes them a very effective storytelling device.

  11. Well the dictionary describes it as...

    The pattern produced on a photosensitive medium that has been exposed by holography and then photographically developed.

    ... which is basically what Abakai said. I think there is a real evolution of Holograms from our time to Star Trek's time. And perhaps the definition has changed a bit. Er... will change a bit.

  12. Heck, call yourself lucky, I wait up till 1am to watch the VOY reruns, yes I am a VOY freak....  B)

    I'd just tape it if it came on that late. Tapes are great. You get to fast-forward through all the commercials. ^-^;;

  13. I chose the Holodock since he is a humanized program that would have all the Latest information. Speaking of which, I was really sad with the end of Voyager (or at least I can't remember) what happened to him. That would be an interesting story of his "career" after Voyager made it home. He should be in the next film.

    If you would like to see what happens to him (and the other Voyager crew members), I suggest you pick up a copy of Homecoming by Christie Golden from your local bookstore. It's a very good book and a very interesting read. And some... well... interesting things happen to the Doctor. You might want to check it out.

  14. The way I see it is this: the Enterprise is not an intergalactic bus. It can't just take everyone to everywhere they wanted to go. If that were the case, the Enterprise would be detouring all the time to drop people off and pick them up. It would continually be interrupted and forced to put its main task on hold, whatever that may be.

    I agree with ~Crims~ about equipping the shuttles with a sort of warp drive. They could at least do that. 10 kph seems a little slow for a shuttle...

  15. I think I have heard somewhere they intend to start running DS9, if that is true it proves Spike will have Trek programming, of some sort, at least  :dude:

    Really? That would be the greatest thing in all the world! I really want to see DS9. It doesn't come on in reruns where I live, and I've only seen a few episodes. Any idea on when they'll be getting it?

  16. Will "Homecoming" be an independant story, answerring unanswerred questions, or will it be an ongoing "relaunch series"?  If it's the beginning of the relaunch, how many books will there be?

    Well, on the cover it says "Book One of Two," so I'm assuming there's only two books in the Homecoming series.

    Click for Spoiler:

    regarding the borg threat, i think i know what happens... it was total coincidence, but i was watching an episode of voyager while i was reading the book... dark frontier, in which the queen recaptures seven so that she can assist the borg with a mutagenic virus that will facilitate assimilation of humanity....seven replies something of the sort that it will take several years for the virus to take affect..that was around season 5 or 6 as i recall and that fits perfectly into the homecoming timeline as well as the charecteristics of the infection....3

    Click for Spoiler:

    Hmm, I've never seen that episode. *sigh* I'll just have to wait for it to come on reruns. But you're right. It does seem to fall into the timeline. Spooooky.

    Hmmm, do you think Janeway and Chakotay are going to get together now that he's not her subordinate? That would be great. I always thought they would make a good couple. ^-^;;

    but i agree with beedrill...its a good book and i seriously wouldnt be surprised if they made it into a movie..although its now impossible as it is placed after insurrection and before nemesis

    Now, who says they can't slip a movie in between there? They've already shown they can produce things out of order with Enterprise. I don't think anyone would be confused. The bad thing about making the book into a movie, though, is that if anything in the movie contradicts the book, you can't believe the book. *sigh*

  17. I got most of the sound bites for my computer from that site.

    Oh, me too. Everytime I start Windows, Data says "Greetings." Then I have various sounds for different functions. Lots of different computer beeps and such. Warp core breach warning noises when I do something wrong. Also, computer reprimands when I do other things wrong. (I do things wrong a lot just to hear the noises.) Comm badge clicks, door chimes, doors wooshing, and Tuvok says "Live long and prosper," when I shut down. I love my computer. ^-^;;

    What did you do to your arm, Yillara? Sounds bad.

  18. I chose DS9 because I watch it the least. And I watch it the least simply because it doesn't come on here. T.T It used to come on Sunday mornings at 3:00. Yeah, three in the morning. I taped them. I've watched a few, but it's hard for me to get into it. I need to see more! More reruns! But, in my opinion, Star Trek is about exploring. Was DS9 exploring? It's a wonderful place, like a city in space (oh, I can rhyme), but you just can't beat good old fashioned Trek through the Stars. That is why it's called Star Trek, you know.

  19. I like the way that the ship looks older than TOS era, but still new. I just think it looks a lot more primitive than Kirk's Enterprise. Many might not agree with me, with all of the nice plasma screens everywhere, but I think it is very nicely done. Making the ship look older than Kirk's, but more advanced than something we'd create now must be a very hard task, and I think it's been done wonderfully. No tractor beams, people are terrified of the transporter, no shields, and everything looks a lot less polished. Good job on that front.

    Also, I like a lot of the episodes. Enterprise has many interesting stories. "Judgment," "Cogeniter," and "Dead Stop" to name a few.

    These characters are also very interesting. There is so much to learn about each one, and I hope they go into more character development in the third season. These are people I'd want to get to know. I like the whole crew. And liking the crew is an essential step in liking the show.

    I have thoroughly enjoyed watching Enterprise. It has many good qualities.

  20. Alright, I finished the book! Yay! I'm almost sorry I did because I was getting into it. And just when everything's building up... it ends. *sigh* So...

    Click for Spoiler:

    Who do you think the guy from Picard's crew is? I'm terrible at this sort of predicting thing. ^-^;; Have you liked the book? Do you think it portrays the characters well? I think it does. I can just see them going through the actions and I can hear them speaking. I really like the story so far.

    We know Voyager isn't responsible for this Borg threat. How could it be? So who do you think is? Well, the Borg, obviously, but someone would've noticed a cube orbiting Earth and pollinating it with a virus.

    What do you think of this Montgomery guy? Do you think he's really the antagonist? I don't think so. He certainly does act like it, and the text is playing him up to be the bad guy, but I don't think he is. Usually when somebody is portrayed as a bad guy, and it looks like the author really wants you to believe that somebody is evil, it turns out to be somebody else, entirely.

    I have to say one more thing. Icheb's got some pretty mean friends. It was just terrible reading that part about them beating on him. I felt so bad for him. I really like Icheb. Do you think he'll ever be friends with them again, or will he forgive them. I hope he finds some new friends. They didn't even believe him when he said he didn't know anything about what was going on. Those aren't friends.

    So, everyone, this was a great book! It leaves you hanging, but it's worth the read!
