1. You Know You're From Florida When...

You own at least five pairs of flip flops

You know someone who's been struck by lightning

You're more scared of the freaks who live down the street than gators

Your backyard is sometimes a swamp

    You're officially sick of Disney

    You shrug off hurricane warnings

You've been permanently blinded by fat men in speedos

There are only two seasons - hot and hotter

    You've drank a flaming alligator.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Florida.

Yeah, the struck by lightning one... indirect strike: 1) hit a street sign about 15 feet away from them: that would be me. 2) hit indirectly while they were using a weed eater in their yard: my mom. 3) watched a couple cars get hit by lightning while they were on the highway.

I guess Floridians might not shrug off too many more hurricane warnings after last year's season.

Fat men in speedos... correction men in general wearing speedos... * gag, going to lose my lunch now*

ptthhh!!! I only own ONE pair of flip flops thank you. lol

When it rains, yeah it can get pretty swampy here. And my former high school?? Oh definately!

Not exactly sick of Disney, but it is not a push to go to any of the theme parks down in that area... save for maybe Wet & Wild or Wild Waters when it gets a little bit warmer.

Never drank a flaming aligator, but then again I do not drink alcohol...save for maybe a single sip of a wine on a very very very very rare occasion.

And where I was born.. and have been back to a few times.

You Know You're From Miami When...

The police shoot you for pointing a "walkman" radio at anybody.

The police shoot you 27 times for putting your hand in a sock and waving it at everybody.

The police draw their weapons and shoot someone with a red dot laser pointing device, (even if it's not mounted atop a gun).

The police shoot you for pointing a water-pistol at them.

The police rear-end your car and give you a ticket for going too slow.

You rent a car and the first toll you pay is to the thief waiting around the corner.

You rent a car, ask someone for directions, then get mugged.

You rent a car, get on the expressway and get shot for passing somebody.

You exit the expressway downtown and someone forces you to pay them for cleaning your clean windshield.

You check into a Hotel, call room service and have someone answer, "Ju espeek Espanis"?

You ask someone for directions and they reply, "parlez vous frances" in Spanish.

You go downtown and buy a great camera for $99, then discover that you must pay at least another $1,000 for the rest of it.

You pay the extra $1,000 then get home and find a little sticker on the underside that reads "refurbished".

You hail a cab and ask to be taken to an American restaurant and the driver just stares at you.

You sail away on a starlight cruise and it rains all night.

You actually get these jokes and pass them on to other friends from Miami.

  2. Though :wow: right now there seems to be an issue with uploading avatars here. So, luckily Data had hosted a couple pics for me for another board and I have one of the pics of Crystal(the family cat) as my avatar here for now. At least until the whole upload thing goes back to normal (same for personal photos too.. tried to update mine and got an "upload failed" message this evening. So I removed my photo at least temporarily)

I noticed that problem a few days ago and brought it up to VBG, he said he thinks he knows why and would contact Invision about it...

    318201

oh wonderful, thanks AE (and VBG too!) :wow:

  3. I do not know why people would have plastic animals in their yard.

Closest I have is a small cow planter and a small chicken planter that my mom had gotten me a while back (chickens and cows are a couple on my list of favorite animals). We used to have a small statue of a giraffe, but it was rather delicate and unfortunately was severely damaged during all the rain and wind from the hurricanes we had last year.

  4. I chose other, because I change it whenever the mood strikes me.

  5. If, before his untimely (say it ain't so!!) death, Data took it upon himself to fix the damage done to Lore by the phaser fire at the end of Decent, and then fix the problem that their father did not live long enough to repair...

do you think Lore could have lived to become a productive member of the galaxy WITH his memory of his old life intact or would it have been necessary to wipe his memory and start over.

Hmm, I don't know if you could ever trust my brother. :wow:

    318005

    :nono: Funny one Data! :wow:

Cara.. his homeworld was Omicron Theta, so that is the planet they were referring to.

  6. Accomplished is my mood star since I returned home from South Florida on Sunday.

I got sixth place in the Light jig (bleah, I thought I had done better in that dance and it is my favorite one to perform).

But, I got a gold medal in the Reel ( :dude: I cannot complain at ALL  . My first ever gold medal, and at a big competition too!!! Highest medal I ever got in gymnastics at a state or higher level competition was a Silver/2nd place)

  7. You're right about them being losers.

I read somewhere that 84% of bullies end up with some sort of conviction by the time they are 24 years old.

Very true. Matter of fact, the guys who bullied me(and yeah.. it was always males that would be the bullies in my situation. For my sister it was mainly other girls, for my brother the guys in the class would harass him)... most of them have been featured in the Police Beat section of the newspaper at least once. Some of them while we were in HS.

Like you, Data. My brother became one of the biggest in his class. I mean sitting at 6' tall and about 300lbs, he is quite a big guy....true he has a temper to boot, but he keeps himself in line. Once he got to be one of the biggest in class, they left him alone too.

I guess it is also more acceptable for boys to fight. I was always a fighter throughout school. If anybody pushed me, I pushed back. I guess that is why I became a good Ice Hockey Player. It seems fighring is actually part of the game.
The common thought is it is acceptable for guys to fight.. not that all of us agree with that, but that is the basic train of thought that has continued through the ages. I could be a fighter, if I am pushed(and it takes a lot to push me). But like I said, I would usually take it to a legitimate arena (like your example of Ice Hockey).. no trouble could really be caused per se(true the "fighting" could get nasty), playing volleyball, kickball or dodgeball. When we usually played dodgeball it was done in the multi purpose room, so there was not much room to run. Outside of PE, I would not physically fight back unless it became absolutely necessary(and sadly it did become necessary once or twice in my beginning middle school year.).

I didn't say that girls did not fight. I just said it was not considered very "lady like". I know girls can be nastier to each other than boys. Boys ususally go for the fists while girls go for the degrading. Well, I guess I put my foot in it now.

True it is not concidered, "lady like". And girls do go for psychological damage when they do attack, which leaves a more permanent scar on any person whether they be male or female than any fist could ever do.

Yeah, but over here the thought is don't blame the bully.

Seems like it was that way at the schools my siblings and I attended. Of all three of us my sister was messed with the least, and my brother was messed with the most. And in almost all cases... the teachers would always end up saying we are blowing it all out of proportion. Uh-huh sure I am, I had just gotten thrown into a row of desks by a classmate of mine and the teacher saw it and reported it to the principal... and the principal tells me that I am exaggerating the whole thing and so was the teacher. I had gotten into a heated debate over my private paperwork which was not to be seen by anyone but the admins(it was a parent survey and was in an envelope), he walked over and picked my envelope up and opened it to read the contents. So he was invading privacy and I told him to put it down and leave it alone(as did our teacher), we got to arguing he grabbed me by my shirt lifted me a little and essentially tossed me into a row of desks. I did kick him to try to get him to let me go before the toss.. but still. and did my classmate get in trouble??? NO, he basically was told to leave me alone and both of you shake hands and return to class.

And sickness of bullies is... *gag* how they become "friends" with their cronies! THere was a girl in my class, who was almost exactly the same age as me.. she and her cronies said I could become their friend if I fulfilled certain deeds. All of them had to do with tormenting and torturing my own friend! :dude: Of course, I basically told them to go to hell. And thus they harassed me for the rest of the year. But were also shocked that that was pretty much exactly how I told them no..since until then I had never uttered a swearword in public.

  8. Since Data kept the dismantled Lore along with the remains of Lal and his "mother" on board the Enterprise-D, they were all probably destroyed when the ship was destroyed.

    317354

That could be true, but not all decks were critically damaged. It would depend on the exact location of Data's lab on the ship, and if that deck was destroyed or merely sustained damage. So they very well could be alright, and now on the Ent-E.

    317505

I don't think they would be on the Enterprise-E. I bet Starfleet would try to get to the lab before other people so they could take the parts back with them to Starfleet engineering and R&D.

    317518

Yes, but then that brings up the question on whether or not they gained permission from Data. He does not have to let them take his family members remains for R&D. So even if they removed them without prior knowledge they would once again face a court trial more than likely. Plus, it was determined in the end of "Measure of a Man", and brought up again in "The Offspring" and touched upon in "Data's Day" that he would work with Maddox & the Daystrom Institute by corresponding with them. Not to mention in "The Offspring" he attended that cybernetics conference..which again would more than likely allow them to work together. I am sure there are some unsavory types that would seek to gain something from getting ahold of the bodies of Lore and Lal..... but, more than likely they(meaning the Daystrom Inst. people) would not do that.

And there is no CANON evidence that says that Dr. Juliana O'Donnell Soong-Tainer has ever died. So like was discussed before, her "remains" would not be on board because she is not yet deceased. I say no Canon evidence, because her "death" was mentioned as a part of the storyline of the TNG novel "Immortal Coil" and being from a book is not canon.

  10. It is a good day when...

I do not feel sleepy all day...

I do not leave work wishing I was allowed to strangle a coworker, manager or a customer...

I actually get to clock out ON TIME!!!!(which is rare, and they think it is funny.. true it is overtime, but it gets aggrivating having to continually rearrange your schedule because they want to hold you over for 15 minutes or more.... and without warning you either!!!! )

I make it through the day without being a complete klutz...

My car continues to work *sigh* :dude:

My competition number is an even number, or at least contains the numbers 2, 4, 8, 22 or 13...or adds up to be even.

Competitions(when I was in gymnastics) /Feis(now that I am an Irish step dancer) starts on time :P

I get to compete or perform B)

and it is ALWAYS a good day when it is my days off of work and school!!!! :P

I get to get a hug and a "kiss" from my almost 4month old niece Evee :(

and these were from when my friend was still here in town..

It would be a good day when...

    I saw him,

    He smiled at me

We got to talk for more than just saying "Hello" or confirming orders people made

Just when he was around it was sure to be a good day, the rest of the store or school could come crashing down around us... it would still be a wonderful day. *deep sigh* Lord, I miss him so very very much!!!

  11. I'm mellowing out while listening to The Carpenters Singles.

BTW, are there any other  Carpenter fans? :dude:

    316129

Here I am!! I have been a fan of their music most, well pretty much all of my life. My mom really likes their music too

Coincidentally I was listening to "Close To You" and "Top of the World" a little while ago.

  12. Mushroom Swiss birgers are awsome, not good if your on a date, cause they can make your breath stinky big time

    317287

 well, no worries therefor me. Not dating anyone.

The burgers can make your breath worse if you add onions.. :dude:

  13. Sick. I got picked on but I got bigger than the bullies. I became well over 6' and was very athletic. By High School, I had beaten all the bums up and they were all afraid of me.

In my case, the problems ended in High school. Well started midway through 7th grade, where the harassment started to cease..

I mean I could always fight back, but the instructors always catch who throws the second punch..so that is a big no-no in my mind. That, and I am afraid that if I hit someone I will do a lot of damage. So I keep myself restrained in that respect. And athletically... definately no problems there. Even as small as I was compared to the rest of the kids my age(but as a gymnast, and the fact that a part of my family were kinda short...that is to be expected).

That was the only real "beating up" of bullies that I would do. I would take it to the court or the track, and let athleticism be the judge  Volleyball was the primary sport that would be taken out to the court. Then of course, there was powder puff football...and being the defensive tackle for the Senior class. No problems there.

But still the bullies are out there, and it is sad with each passing year they seem to be getting away with more and more. No matter how administrators or school board members are saying that they are taking measures to curb the bully behavior. And a lot of times they end up maybe even unwittingly encouraging the behavior.
