  1. BRENT Breakes??? Ooook then.

In Trekkies she talks about how she had found out that he lived not far from her home. When she went on her balcony she could see houses that were close to his. I notice she has updated her site in quite some time - ever since he moved.

When Marina Sirtis was originally cast they wanted an exotic sounding accent for her since she was Betazed. However when they cast Majel Barrett Roddenberry as her mother they told Marina that her accent was from her father. Of course when they had her father in Lwaxana's memory in Dark Page he didn't have an accent either. Her accent seemed to tone down a lot over the years. It is almost her real accent in Nemesis when compared to Farpoint.

  2. I'm glad they are not re-editing the scenes into the movie. I wish they would include the extended reception scene so we could hear of Blue Skies at the reception. How about a bonus music video or something. :)

I have a problem with re-editing scenes into Star Trek movies because of canon problems. Would the theatrical release be canon or would things that are in the DVD be canon? You know how some DVDs (like Independence Day) had both the theatrical version and a special edition version. Maybe with Star Trek movies they could have a canon version and a non-canon version.

  3. Captain Jean-Luc Picard French with an English accent, kinda grumpy and arrogant, but magnificent.

I don't agree with their description of Picard (the part in read and italics). And what is with their links. The one for Data goes to the site of someone who is a bit obsessed. She is the one who was in Trekkies with the photo album with millions of pictures that looked the same and took the "Brent Breaks" on her balcony.

  4. I feel so old. I'm old enough to be your mother.

Come on soong_girl. . .you are not old! You are only as old as you feel. :)

You can be any age on the internet. :)

Honestly though I'll be hitting a milestone this year - 40.

  5. I don't think Mr. Spiner was too happy with Master of Disguise. I read an article about an interview he gave in London when promoting Nemesis. When the interviewer asked him about Master of Disguise, his response was "next question". I have seen it (rented it) and he gave his usual great performance but I am not into bodily function humour (glad the remote has a mute button and I fast-forwarded through most of the movie after the first 20 minutes).

  6. If you're comparing Pulanski/Data to McCoy/Spock, I'd have to disagree. McCoy pretended to be ANNOYED with Spock, but I don't think he was ever PREDJUDICED against him...and I like McCoy, don't compare him to...her.

(He was 70 in the movies??? Just to clarify - were you talking about McCoy or DeForrest Kelly?)

Deforest Kelley was born in 1920.

I think given the chance Kate Pulaski could have been a much better character than Beverly Crusher. It is hard to compare them in that we had only one season with Kate. I didn't like her at first because of her treatment of Data but I agree with Lessa in that she would have really pushed Data's development more than Bev did.

I still don't understand how Bev became such an expert on Data. In one episode 11001001 she was going to meet with some cybernetist (sp?) but as Data said in Data's Day he rarely was in need of Dr. Crusher's services.

  7. That's one good reason. Also, it's a school! (and probably a big one). You don't always meet all the people in your grade, especially not in other grades.

Exactly what I said, dsbs! I graduated with 407 other kids in 1998 and there were over 2100 more kids in that school. . .I personally can name around 100 (maybe even less, of course one I COULD name was my sister-she graduated 2 years after me!)

I went to school in some very sparsely populated areas. From grades 5 - 8 we had 2 grades per class. When I was in grade 8, the grade 7 class in our room had 3 kids. My high school took kids from a large area but we still had maybe 200 kids in the whole high school. My final year of high school we had maybe 40 kids in grade 12 of which only 10 graduated.

  8. I was watching Moby (Please stop me from cursing) last night with Patrick Stewart and he is so amazing in that. I haven't watched his version of A Christmas Carol as I just can't get myself to watch a "Christmas movie" in the spring. He was really good in X-Men too.

I liked Brent Spiner in many movies that he has been in however some of those movies haven't been very good overall. He was great in Independence Day (especially the 5 star special edition version) and I really liked the Gil Godwyn character in Out to Sea. You could really tell that Walter Matthau had been ill before shooting. I think if both Lemmon and Matthau had been in Grumpy Old Men shape it would have been a better movie. He was really good in The Dorothy Dandridge Story and that was a good movie too. I won't even talk about Master of Disguise (WHAT were you thinking!!!)

I haven't seen to many movies starring other Trek actors.

    What are your favourites?

  9. They probably would have had some classes in common. In First Contact Geordi told Zephran Cochran that basic warp theory was a required course at the Academy. In Encounter at Farpoint Riker told Data that he had looked up his file after Picard has suggested him for the away team. I would assume that Riker would have familiarized himself with other crew members and would have seen in Geordi's file that they were there at the same time. It's odd that it was never acknowledged that they were at the Academy at the same time.

  10. How could I forget one of my favourite quotes from The Offspring:

    Lal: I love you father.

Data: I wish I could feel it with you.

Lal: I will feel for both of us.

    Or the tribute in Relics:

    Scotty: What is it?

Data: It is...(looking for label). It is...(smelling contents). It is green.

  11. They were definitely still trying to find their way thoughout season 1. I believe during one of the special features on the DVDs someone talks about how they changed their focus in season 2 away from the "alien of the week" stories that they had done in season 1.

  12. She could be annoying, but she was interesting. Crusher was just to fill space and be a love interest for Picard if he was not chasing another skirt.

I agree Lessa. She wasn't much of a love interest for him either. Picard did not have that many romantic relationships over the years of the series - Vash, Nella Darren (anyone else?). He fell for Kamala in The Perfect Mate but that wasn't consumated.

And then there was Bev - she started to fall for Finn in High Ground, she would have started a relationship with Picard in Allegiance (although it was fake Picard who was seducing her), she fell for John Doe in Transfigurations (talk about breaking the Hypocratic Oath). She had a relationship with Odan in The Host. Finally has Picard asking her to have a relationship in Attached and she says no. And then that weird Ronin in Sub Rosa. I'm sure I probably missed someone here too.

I think that if Picard and Crusher had gotten together that it would not have lasted. I believe disagreements that they had over the years of the series (example - her wanting to disregard the Prime Directive to treat health issues) would have intensified if they were a couple rather than friends.

  13. If I change one of the assumptions, Dr. Soong's age in Brothers, it will still leave my main question a mystery.

Lore was disassembled before Data was created. Dr. Soong was 40ish when Data was created. He was 50ish when he created Juliana Tainer and this was supposed to have happened not long after they escaped from Omicron Theta. Data was deactivated for approximately 2 years on Omicron Theta after the attack so I will use the assumption that Juliana Tainer was created around the same time as Data's re-activation. The problem here means that Dr. Soong would have been around 75 in Brothers but his character looked much too old to be only 75. I know he indicated that he was ill however Lore made the comment that Dr. Soong looked fine so that would indicate that he did not look older than his age. By comparison, Jean-Luc Picard (not Patrick Stewart) is in his 70's in Nemesis.

    So I'll offer an alternative:

I will assume it did not take long for Dr. Soong to create Data and that Data was created in 2334 and lived among the colonist for 2 years. I will also assume that Lore was disassembled in 2334. The Crystalline Entity attacked in 2336. Data was re-activated in 2338.

Which leaves my original question still unanswered, why did it take the Crystalline Entity 2 years to attack the colony after Lore was in contact with it? With the speed that it reached the Enterprise in DataLore it should have been able to destroy the colony before Lore was even disassembled.
