out of how many that have completed space walks and been on the moon? at thier age it is queit reasonable that at out of that many people some of them would get cancerWell, there were 24 men that went to the moon. 2 have died of cancer, one of a sudden heart attack (Jim Irwin). You can do the math if you wish. Jack Swigert (Apollo 13) wouldn't have been that old in 1982. In fact he had just been elected to congress. His space flight was in 1971 so he died 11 years after his flight.
In Jim Irwin's case it could possibly be linked to his time on the moon. There were problems noted in both his and Dave Scott's heart while they were on the moon. They weren't informed of this until they returned to Earth though. Dave Scott recovered from it, seemingly with no problems. Jim Irwin however didn't bounce back so quickly and possibly it caused his death.
The fact of the matter is that there is a greater risk in space from the solar radiation. NASA knows this and so does the world scientific community. How great is that risk? I don't know, but to dismiss it out of hand would be foolish. In my reading and studying of Apollo and other aspects of NASA, it seems to only be of concern during times od greater then normal solar flare activity.
But I say again, to just casually dismiss the threat or possibility of a threat without any kind of research or study would be foolish.
Do you have any research that you have read that indicates that there is no danger of Solar Radiation while in space? If so please post a link, I would be interested in it. I am a big fan of the Space program and NASA.
Here's a link that tells about a new form of Radiation Shielding Nasa is working on:
http://spacescience.spaceref.com/colloquia.../wilson_pos.pdf
If they are working on shielding then there must be at least some risk.

The loss of the thread lowered the board's total post count but didn't change any personal counts. So no worry there.
I don't have a pet now but I had a Jack Russell Terrier for over 17 years.
I don't have a picture on this computer but here's a memorial to him that my neighbor had made for me.
When I get to my other computer I'll get a Pic to add.

I just read the reviews on the site. Thank you all for your kind words, they do mean a lot to me.

Thanks for the compliment! And you german is perfect too...lol!Yes, in Germany we have a synchronized version, in the beginning the synchronisation was very bad, they didn´t translated correctly, but better that nothing.
After the massive complaining from thousands of fans they do a better job now. But it is still german, and I can not listen to Scott Bakulas sweet voice, sigh. (Thanks again for the "Imagine" song)
So I prefer viewing the original version, in english.
Believe it or not: When I detected the TNG episodes in english (on sky one from the UK) years ago, I began beeing a Trekkie AND learned much more english than during years of school lessons!
Have you been able to see Quantum Leap as well?

they have as much as they need obviously, sice they where out there for qiute some time and none of them seem to have gotten cancer as of yet. the ozone layer that protects us from UV rays is about a quater of a centemeter thick and i am not dead. so when is radiation a problem?Alan Shepard (Apollo 14) died of cancer in 1999.
Jack Swigert (Apollo 13) died of cancer in 1982.

YOu do great with English I won't make you laugh with my German, I only know one phrase and that was what President Kennedy said when he was in Berlin. Ich Bin Ein Berliner I'm sure I didn't spell it right but that's the extent of my German knowledge

Anyway, You have everything exactly right in what you are saying. View On Demand is called "On Demand" here in Virginia, I'm not sure if it is the same across the US and Canada.
I think this kind of system would be so much better for everyone.
I am curious, when Star Trek airs in Germany is it dubbed in German or is it in English with subtitles?
Also there is a way you can get Enterprise episodes even before they are on the air in the United States. Many times last season I was watching the new episode the day before it came on TV.

I thought you might find it interesting to see a couple of the graphs I get with my daily stats.
This is the July's Hourly averages:

This is July's Daily Averages:
(the 20th is so much smaller because it only contains about 8 hours worth of that day's usage before the graph was generated.)

hmmm... I am on DSL and sometimes(well, a lot of the times lately) all I see for many peoples moving avatars(to name a few Lessa, VaBeachGuy, bysty and mine) show up as just white boxes. mine and everyone else I mentioned's files used to come up almost immediately. Wonder what's going on(Lessa said my file was less than 100kb, so it should be ok)It could just be the server going slow at times of heavy use. Our busy hours are between 5pm and 11pm Eastern.
oh, OK...its doing the white box thing right now, but yes I think you are right about it being slow. Makes sense.
We're actually getting int the morning "rush hour" between about 9am and Noon eastern we have a bit of a rurh also.

I think a ship would have to know the general vicinity of a cloaked ship in order to detect it. Otherwise the sensors wold just be poking in the dark. In ST VI They knew genreally where the ship was because it was firing at them and the torpedo was modified to detect the plasma. Plus you have to remember, the Bird of Prey that was attacking was a prototype that could fire while cloaked, it could be explained away by saying that there was a flaw in the design and that's why the torpedo was able to find the ship.

I've made no secret of my disliking of the Winn character, I think the series could have been done just as well if not better without her character.
Gul Dukat, to me was a much more interesting character. He starts out as a "possible" bad guy in the beginning. We don't really know what to think of him, he's a mystery but we know he's not a friend.
He turns into somewhat if a bad guy and then becomes a friend. We almost start to like him in the war with the Klingons, even feel sorry for him at times. Then he sides with the Dominion and becomes a bad guy again. The final season and a half solidify his part as the ultimate bad guy for DS9 and he winds up getting his just rewards for it.
So my answer, after being so long winded is Dukat.

THings are the same here, still dealing with my Carpal Tunnel and Cubital Tunnel. They have me out of work for at least another month.
Other then that all is the same.

I don't really have a favorite Tasha episode, she wasn't around long enough to get to know her character and for her character to develop.
Looking back at the series with her on it and then at the series with her gone it makes me wonder if her leaving might have made the show better. It allower Worf to be developed in a way he likely wouldn't have had she stayed.

I hope your day is Joyous!

It is such a great work. I enjoy watching it more and more every time I see it I find something new
Mrs. Captain Picard
I think there is one in the Games section where the pictures play slower, it was a Guess The Languages game.

I can always see it perfectly... Maybe because of my DSL connection, I don't know
And I LOVE these animated avatars!!!

Mrs. Captain Picard
The credit goes to Takara for mine. She made it.

LOL 107 MB is bigger then most of my Enterprise episodes I download.

I'll have to look at the file and see how big it is. It may be your dialup.

Ok, I deleted ltwright since the cptwright name is working now.

I forgot to mention, now that your regular account is working right I will remove the new screen name "ltwright".

Shortly before the free month ends call and be very "displeased" with AOL's service. Many times they will extend your free month. In 1995 or 1996 I did that every month for about a year lol
If all else fails try http://www.netzero.net/ you can gt free access or a low cost access. THere may be other free services out there as well.

I can't see any images outside of Avatars...
Here's the search I used to find it on Yahoo. Click on the word "Cached" and you'll see it.

I think it was more because of TOS's budget then anything else. They had to keep it simple and the Yes No system was the simplest. In 23rd Century terms though, maybe it wasn't practical because not everyone he would encounter would know Morse Code. Kind of like us trying to use Egyptian Hieroglyphs, some people know how to read them but it's such an ancient form of writing that not many people can.
Well, I’m not exactly sure what TOS’s budget would have to do with anything
(The special effects for Morse code I don’t think would be too expensive if done right)
I would agree that not everyone knows of Morse code, but I think that’s a big deal.
If he used Morse code, then much of the story line would be different. (Just think about how the story would unfold.) But again the author maybe just never really put that much thought into it.

I think it just would have been a complication the writers and producers wouldn't have wanted to deal with. I agree that a simple Yes - No method was too simplistic but morse code would have been the total opposite, too complex.
Had their budget allowed I think they could have devised a better way of doing it. BUt the way the story was set up they didn't want him to be able to communicate very well that way no one could understand why Spock was taking him until the writers wanted them to know.
If he could speak through a computer interface or morse code then he could simply explain why it was important for him to go to Talos IV and the trip would have possibly been sanctioned, which would have ended the need to have a 2 parter using the original Pilot footage.

No, surely not. Don't misunderstand me either. I in no way think it should be stopped. Quite the opposite. The risks are there but I believe they are worth taking. I wish we would return to the moon and establish a base there. From there I think we should move on to Mars and begin to try and develop some type of "warp" ship.
