  1. I had my video camera set up in my car as I drove to Hampton yesterday and I heard this song, it's a pretty good song but if you watch the video you can also see a little bit of Hampton Roads as I drive.

  2. Constantly being made fun of by others....all the time...:rantoff: >_<

Don't let em bug ya. Nobody ever wanted to make fun of me because I'd usually beat them to it. If I did something that someone would normally make fun of I'd usually already be making fun of myself over it lol.

Of course making a fool of myself on purpose was nothing new for me lol.

  3. Now that the month of May is behind us and the movie has been out for a while I took a peek at STF's stats to see how our stats changed in May vs. the months before the movie came out.

    Traffic did increase:

    stats.JPG

Between January 1st and April 30th we had 40 new members register, between May 1st and May 31st we had 36 new members register.

So like the movie or not, have a few nitpicky complaints about this or that in the movie or not the bottom line is increased interest. And that's the important thing to take away from the movie.

  4. I greatly disagree about Enterprise not being in the same class as the other 3 modern Treks. I rank it above Voyager personally. At one time I may have even ranked it above TNG but that would be based only on the first 4 seasons of TNG vs. the 4 seasons of Enterprise.

I've always raked DS9 at the top of the list of all of the series but in reality nothing can top TOS, it's just that DS9 is my favorite series overall.

I've said it many times on the boards though, the last 3 seasons of Enterprise (the 3 seasons that never were... seasons 5, 6 and 7) had such promise with so many great stories that never got told. It's really disappointing, especially if it turns out that Enterprise was cancelled to make room for this new movie.

  5. My opinion (which is just my opinion) they went like this:

    DS9

    TOS

    TNG

    ENT

    VOY

You can't go by ratings and cancellations, back when TOS was cancelled they went by a whole different way of calculating the ratings. If they had been doing the ratings the same way they did a year or 2 after it was cancelled they never would have cancelled it. I don't recall the specifics, but I read an article where an NBC official said that had they known about TOS's popularity with the 18-24 year old male population (I think it was 18-24) they'd have kept it on the air for sure. Also, don't forget that had it not been for TOS none of the other series would have ever existed, calling TOS the weakest just doesn't make any sense.

As I said once before though, I'll take Enterprise season for season up against any of the other series and Enterprise will hold it's own in most cases and outshine the others in many cases.

Season 1 of Enterprise was better than any of the modern Treks. I would say the same for season 2. Season 3 gets a little tricky because that's where both TNG and DS9 really started to hit their stride. Voyager to an extent too. Season 4 of Enterprise was just a fantastic season from start to finish but again, DS9 and TNG had great 4th seasons as well and in my opinion season 4 is where Voyager began to take hold.

But also remember, Voyager was on the verge of cancellation for much of it's life. Seven of Nine was a result of needing to boost it's ratings to save it's life.

Also don't understand, when Trek fans say that one series or another is the "Weakest" that's not saying that series "sucked" and isn't worth watching. All 6 of the series (TAS included) are great TV and well worth watching. But in ranking them within the franchise there has to be a "best" and a "worst" or "strongest" and "weakest" so don't take personal offense at someone saying that your favorite series was the weakest.

Now, with that said I have to go take the names of those that said DS9 was the weakest... :)

  6. They did set the stage with Shran losing his ship, what role on the ship would he have had though? That's an interesting question that I hadn't really considered. I too don't believe he'd have been subordinate to T'Pol, more likely he'd have been an Andorian 'ambassador' of sorts or an 'adviser' similar to the role T'Pol initially came aboard in. T'Pol having joined Starfleet would be the second in command and a Starfleet officer where Shran would still be an officer in the Andorian Imperial Guard. So officially he'd have been subordinate only to Archer but he couldn't over ride T'Pols orders on the ship.

I agree that the Vulcans were not done correctly, and that the fraternizing among bridge officers (who should be more disciplined and professional), the emotions that are out in the open, are not Vulcan. In short, the Vulcans are too human.

I agree with the fact that I would rather see the TOS canon re-established...I just do not think they will do it.

But I did enjoy the film, especially the relationship between Kirk and Spock being restored.

As much as I liked Uhura in TOS,

Kirk was my hero, and the friendship between Kirk and Spock and McCoy the most central aspect.

I can live with Star Trek XI if they don't change it as an 'alternative universe' Star Trek.

But TOS, which is the only complete set of Star Trek DVDs I own, is the Real Star Trek.

I agree completely with everything you said, I know that I've had my 'nitpicking' complaints and there are some aspects of the movie that I didn't like... some of which aren't even on the screen (the writers and director that was chosen) but all in all, as a 'stand alone' movie I was very entertained and enjoyed it. As it stands right now though, I do consider it a "Stand Alone" and not in the same "collection" as the other 10 movies.

  8. Yeah, I had thought and probably posted many times that Shran should be a member of the crew but it wasn't until a few days or a week ago that I watched the special features disc and they talked about what season 5 would have had in store for it and that was the biggest thing.

I really think that they 'dropped the ball' with the cancellation, those last 3 seasons would have been awesome. I understand that the traditional ratings weren't good but I honestly believe that with all of the money that they made and are making off Star Trek (past, present and future) that they 'owed' us those 3 seasons.

  9. The new Star Trek is a big success..and all your nitpicking isn't going to change what has happenend in this movie..

Yes, I know that. But the good thing about the internet in general and writing a personal review specifically is that you can nitpick and voice displeasure at tiny details that bug you. Or, you can write a personal review that raves 100% about every single aspect of the movie right down to the brand of cameras that they used to film it.

This particular review being my personal review, I chose to nitpick at some of the errors and tiny details. Keep in mind that I have said numerous times that I like the movie and want it to be successful, I just wish that they (the writers and director) had had enough imagination and faith in the franchise to do the movie 'right'.

This movie could have been made with the exact style that it has and stayed within at least SOME sense of canon, and for them to say that it "HAD" to be done this way to attract new viewers... I say "BS". For all of the "new viewers" that are there now that never or rarely ever watched any Star Trek they have NO idea that there was anything 'altered'. They'd have gone to watch it regardless and if Chekov wasn't there because he was only 13 in the year that the movie takes place, those "new viewers" would never have known the difference and if as it has been speculated this movie is part of a 2 or 3 part series that will see the timeline set right in the end then how will that be a 'bad thing'?

I just really wish they had come up with a better way of telling this story then to come in and 100% alter the way time travel is and has been viewed and dealt with in the Star Trek universe.

Yes, I know that my opinion on this doesn't mean squat but it's my opinion and I won't pretend that I'm 100% "in love" with the way they did it.

  10. That was cool! I got 96%....5 miles.....255 secs. I thought I'd do better, geography was my inital major in college.

It's not so easy when you have a blank map though lol You may know where each state goes but if you have it off just slightly it'll register as an error. Try putting Iowa or Colorado in when it's just a blank map and you're bound to be off slightly lol.

At least I'm bound to be off slightly lol

  11. Hey To all of my GREAT Fans and Friends; Judy and I just saw the new movie, we thought it's wonderful!! Think they did a good job of casting and the acting was great. Was nice to see Lenny, You know guys-- it has and is still an honor to be a part of such a Icon. I found at the end that I had tears of gratitude, kinda choked up, Judy looked at me ??? All I could say was It's nice to belong!!!!!!!! Again Many Thanks Eddie aka Lt. Leslie

Hey Eddie, how have you been? It's been mentioned here somewhere wondering who they'll get to play Lt. Leslie in the next movie, after all Star Trek wouldn't be Star Trek without Lt. Leslie!

It's great to see you on the board though, hope to see you on when you have time.

  12. I just recently watched the special features disc for season 4 and in it there was mention that there were plans to make Shran a member of the Enterprise crew in season 5.

Knowing that just pisses me off at the cancellation all over again. Seasons 5, 6 and 7 would have been a total blast setting the franchise up for movies covering the Romulan War and the foundation of the Federation.

  13. Click for Spoiler:

I do not see this reality being 'fixed', and like many fans of TOS, it leaves me with a sense of loss. But it still felt like Star Trek to me, not Star Wars or anything else.

What causes me to feel hopeful and excited is the bit of Star Trek that I think survived. I think 'friendship' is what survived the alternate timeline.

I think Spock prime (the TOS Spock)in some sense 'fixed' what he could by intervening and re-estabishing the friendship that defined his life, by working first with Kirk, who he knew exactly how to get to do what he should, and later with 'himself'.

The most compelling part of the movie for me was Spock rescuing the exiled Kirk right after watching the destruction of Vulcan. In a way it was like the 'best of times, worst of times' experiences Jim Kirk had on Star Trek II, losing Spock.

How could Nero possibly know that when he stranded Spock on that planet to helplessly watch the destruction of Vulcan, to break his Vulcan heart, that also a restoring event would occur? Of all the people in the universe to see on that desolate hopeless world was his long dead dear friend Jim Kirk, alive again and in the strength of his youth! Vulcan destroyed, but then here was the friend of his life, Jim Kirk. It was a powerful moment, as Spock began restoring the role Jim was to fulfill as captain of the Enterprise, and fix the relationship between him and Spock. That whole scene was very 'Star Trek' to me, in spite of everything in the film that made me uncomfortable.

( And yes...the stuff with making cadets Star Fleet officers was ridiculous ... couldn't they have thought that through? Couldn't they have gone to just on Star Trek fan site and talked it out?)

    Click for Spoiler:

Well, I know that a lot of people don't want it "fixed" but I do. At least to the point where Vulcan doesn't get destroyed, Amanda survives and personalities/relationships are what they're supposed to be.

Spock doesn't go around having flings with lower ranking officers, he has his betrothed still on Vulcan and it's Nurse Chapel that's hot for him.

I was watching it again the other night and something that just didn't seem right finally came to me. When little Spock gets into the fight and Sarek has to come talk to him, he mentions that being the 'Ambassador to Earth' made it logical to marry Amanda. Sarek wasn't the 'Ambassador to Earth' though, he was the Vulcan Ambassador to the United Federation of Planets.

I know, it's a minor detail but to me it just shows a lack of caring about the subject matter that they get those little things wrong.
