Many times I have been tricked into clicking on something only to find myself trapped. I can't get it off the screen and who knows what else is involved. After such incidents I find new problems arise. People who come up with these "Tricks" are very clever and very smart. Don't believe everything your told, it may just be a "Front" for something else. Something totally unrelated to what it's telling you. If this has happened to you tell us about it so we'll be warned.

Jeanway, I hope you have a firewall, antivirus and ad removers on your pc.

 

I get highjacked sometimes too - it's like someone sets a macro to automatically switch you to another site if you put in a certain web address. People are people whether in the cyber world or the brick and mortar one. You always have to be on guard against trickery.

Yes, UH. I have Norton and Spybot. I'm learning things all the time. As each new problem arises I find ways to correct them. Talking with the members in here has taught me alot in a short period of time. I run 'Maintenace Wizard' more often now too. RC told me she runs hers everyday. :( But I notice everytime I do that it takes a day or two for things to get better, but I will do it once a week from now on, I think it really speeds things up. Everything loads alot quicker. :(

About a week ago at work I was just using google and all of a sudden a bunch of icons apeard. My boss said I must of acctidently clicked on a ok button on a pop up that I was trying to delete. The computers here at work have norton and adware. It cost $175 to get all the crap out and my boss said that out of the 8 computers at the repair shop 6 were getting fixed for stuff that they got off the internet. Its like it is not safe just to surf anymore.

I have Nortin Security. I get maybe 3 to 6 security alerts from people trying to break into my system. :(

I sometimes browse for music on MSN media and half the stuff you click on is not at all what it says. It will say it is, for example, Ordinary Day by Vanessa Carlton, but it will be some weird thirty-second track with someone rapping. So far, nothing really bad has happened with that, but you have to browse about five pages to get two real songs. Another thing- I used to have AIM, but it totally ruined my computer (cookies and stuff I got off their websites unintentionally), and we ended up having to buy a whole new computer.

I think I know the pop-up you're talking about and yes it is a vicious little scum-bag isn't it, keeps re-opening it's self again & again. NEVER answer a YES/NO question on any pop-up; ALWAYS only ever click the red square with the white X to close it or close it on your browser bar.

Yes, Odie, I have Norton too. But some of these sneek in with "Smilies Central" which I have deleted and have been running scan disc and Norton to get rid of.

I get about one email a month that 'appears' official asking for me to 're-enter' my account information. Luckily a little voice told me to check with my ISP. The told me it was a scam so now I just delete all of those e's when I get them. It's hard to keep up with all of the scams out there nowadays.

Yes, WAB. I have done Ctrl + Alt + Del many times. Sometimes even that doesn't work and I have to unplug the computer from the wall. :rolleyes:

I loaded it a few months ago and that's when alot of my computer troubles started. After talking with a few other people who did the same, it's obvious that 'Smilies Central' is NOT something you want to download. Just a warning people. It's on Yahoo Messenger. :(

I've found that a lot of those "neat and free" things on the internet aren't so neat after all. Smiley Central screwed up my computer too. I guess I'll just have to read the entire EULAs from now on. :P

 

I liked some of those smileys too. :) I wonder if a person could make their own? :(

My com got hijacked once a while back. I the sense that the IE pages were all diverted to porn pages, and we had to reboot the entire system to get that out. My dad and I were really miffed, we both need the Internet loads.

 

But we've got Norton and McAfee running now, thank the skies.

Now this is just a 'suspicion'. My ISP has been putting a real 'push' on. To have me subscribe to the more expensive version lately. I suspect that everyone is going to get it whether they agree to it or not. I suspect the whole Service is going to be updated to the faster version BECAUSE, all of a sudden I am loading alot faster than I used to. I think they were just trying to get a little more money every month from everyone. :frusty:

Ever had a Pop-Up that just wouldn't go away :laugh: so you click on "Get rid of this ad"?,

 

another trick and it just brought a whole new bunch of crap onto your screen? :P

 

That happened to me yesterday. :frusty: So I did a Maintenance Wizard right after

 

that, everything is ok now, for a while anyway. :huh:
