  1. Correct Lt Van Roy.

The species is called the Cait (Caitians). They were first introduced in TAS. Worlds Of The Federation has the following information about them. Please note that there is no official Star Trek data to corroborate the following information.

Worlds Of The Federation, Page 38-39

    Federation Catalogue Name: Cait

    Indigenous Name: Ferasa

    Order Of UFP Admission: 12

    Primary Star: 15 Lyncis

    Planetary Classification: M

    Number Of Moons: 2

Cait is the second planet of twelve orbiting a moderate-sized yellow star. It is the only habitable planet in its system and has two moons, Rea and Sura.

The native Caitians are a distinctly feline race, and it is believed that they are the descendants of an ancient Kzinti colonization group. They are bipedal, with a thick orange mane, long tail, and large golden eyes that provide excellent low-light vision. The Caitian language consists of multiple soft tones, spoken with a deep, purring resonance; this style of communication makes it difficult for the Caitians to adapt to phonetic languages.

Caitians have excellent hearing, with a frequency range far beyond that heard by normal humanoids. For this reason, most Caitians who enter Starfleet specialize in communications and sonic sciences.

Unlike the Kzinti, the Caitian race is not hostile in nature. Their reputation as one of the most cooperative and intelligent members of the Federation makes Caitian crew members much sought-after throughout Starfleet.

The asteroid belt that lies between the fifth and sixth planets of the Caitian system is an abundant source of ores and valuable minerals, not the least of which is dilithium. Orbital refining platforms within the belt provide a large percentage of the dilithium crystals used in that area of Federation space

  2. An ELE (Extinction Level Event) occurring with an asteroid is very possible, however we as a society would not know about it until it was way to late to do anything about it. The only what that we would find out would be if an independent astronomer made the discovery and told as many people he could before being captured and/or silenced.

Evidence of huge asteroids are all over our planet and I think that the likelihood of another planet killer hitting our planet is very likely. Maybe we can use our super enormous mammalian brains to avert the next ELE. If we can not then we start all over again, From scratch.

  3. Well I think the next questions is, "Does Warp 10 equal Transwarp speeds?" Transwarp is possible, we have seen it accomplished in Voyager Episode "Distant Origin" with the former Earth speices the Voth.

  4. Star Trek II: The Wrath Of Khan...

The first movie in which we get to see two Federation ships go toe to toe and beat the hell outta each other. My vote goes to the famous Kirk/Khan battle. I still watch this movie once a month, for the battles and the classic quotes.

  5. The Cousteau was a nice addition to the Enterprise E.  I wish that we had been able to see the Captain's Yacht on the Galaxy class Enterprise D in action once.

I think the D's captain's yacht was an ugly little thing. It was slow, and not that interesting to look at. However, the E had a very attractive yacht, but the warp pylons seem a bit long.

Well, the only time anyone has "seen" the details of the Enterprise D's Captain's Yacht was in the TNG Technical Manual. IT would have been interesting to see it in action and gage its usefulness.

Just because it looks ugly dosent mean that it is not functional. Look at the Apollo Lander Module.

  6. Here is a little something I found to add some light to the subject.

ST:TNG Technical Manual, Section 11.2 Phaser Operations

    Page 127, Paragraph 5

Virtually all phaser-related scenarios deal with sub light starship velocities, and for good reason. Space vessels operating at warp are protected, to a large degree, simply by the limitations of light speed physics. Phaser energy dissipates quickly in the vicinity of moving warp fields, especially when those fields are accompanied by active deflectors. This remains true even if the targets are motionless relative to each other (in comparison, subspace emission devices such as tractor beams and transporters are less adversely affected). Computational simulations suggest that an extremely narrow Type X phaser discharge, if released at full power and aligned along an oncoming target's velocity vector, has a 25% chance of disrupting the target's hull integrity. Other position and velocity combinations are subjects of continued research, since some small tactical advantages may yet be extracted for future use.

  7. Can I get one of those to mount on a cruiser or something? I doubt the Terrorists would mess with us then.

"Hey, Osama, the Americans got them Quantum torpedo thingies!"

    "Quantum torpedoes? What are those?"

"Ona them! <points as Torpedo hits>"

    BOOM!

    "<with last breath> So THAT'S a quantum torpedo!"

If you were to use a quantum torpedo in Afganistan it would have the following reporcussions...

    Afganistan = Large Parking Lot

    Easy math.

  8. Your measurements are close...

Actual casing measures 2.1 by 0.76 by 0.45 meters and masses 186.7 kilograms dry weight.

ST:DS9 Tech Manual, Section 10.2 Photon Torpedoes And Operations, Page 84, Paragraph 2.

  9. Actually the chamber measures 0.76 meters in diameter by 1.38 meters in length and 2.3 centimeters in average thickness...

According to ST:DS9 Technical Manual :o

But you are correct about the can of whoop-a**!!!
