  1. So, for those who haven't heard, the Detroit Lions fired Head Coach Steve Mariucchi(sp?) and promoted Defensive Coordinator Richard Jauron to Interim Head Coach.

Dre' Bly says he knows WHY Mooch was fired. He has released a very long statement about it, but you can boil it down to two words.

    Joey Harrington.

I don't disagree, Dre'. Joey Harrington was a 3rd Round pick 4 years ago. He was expected to come in and turn the Lions around. He's had 4 years. The only reason he's still playing is because Jeff Garcia (Who is no Ely Manning, To tell you the truth) has been injured.

But, Joey isn't the only problem the Lions have. Nope, not hardly. See, the Lions have NO offensive line. And without them, you can't win. It's that simple. Just ask the Houston Texans.

With two other coaches in trouble in the NFC north, not to mention teams outside the NFC that might drop their present coaches, Mariucchi may not have to look hard for a new job.

  2. the Reports from Cpls. Schuller and Mayer are not unique. Gary has tons of them. Darryl (hardcharginsarge) has hundreds from his two tours in Afghanistan. Soldiers, Sailors, and Marines I talk to who spent any amount of time there will relate stories similar to that. But, I think the Media is being hypocritical when it calls the warfighter's stories "Soda Straws" when you look at what the Media covers. "2 Soldiers killed today". That's all they focus on. Sounds like a soda straw to me. These Marines, and everyone who's been over there, are doing a good job, and deserve to finish their job.

  3. I think the two big ones to get to are Gettysburg and Chancellorsville. Chancellorsville was the last major Confederate Victory on the Eastern Front, and Gettysburg the first major Union Victory on the Eastern Front. Fredericksburg was also a major Confederate Victory. Also in the general area is Manassas, where the first real battle was fought, as well as Antietam, the bloodiest Single-Day battle of the Civil War.

  4. So, I had an idea for a college-level Field Study class on the US Civil War. Given that most of the action in the Civil War happened within only about a quarter of the country, a class that lasted 7 or 8 weeks might be able to get to all of the major battle fields (There are a bunch in the Virginia/Maryland/Pennsylvania area) on the East Coast, and even to a few of the ones in the middle, such as Shiloh in Tennessee. If you had an opportunity, would you take such a class?

  5. I was just reading the comments on Y! Sports, and there are starting to be whispers, quiet, barely noticable ones, of a Packers resurgence this season. Remember, The Packers have only played 2 division games this season, and now everything is starting to click. If the predictions are right, Green Bay wins, the Bears lose, well, hell Green bay is only 3 games back. And they haven't played the Bears at all yet...

  6. In College Sports, there is one rivalry that stands above all else. In any sport, this rivalry is a classic, weather it is Football, Basketball, or Competitive Underwater Basketweaving. No other College Rivalry can match it. the schools involved aren't big schools, but I'd be willing to bet you've heard of them. And, when it comes around, you can bet there will be trash talking...

West Point Vs. Annapolis. EI, for those not "In the Know", ARMY/NAVY. The ULTIMATE RIVALRY.

Also, if you want to see a good, no-love-lost kind of rivalry game, watch Monday Night Football this week. Brett Favre and the Packers take on Brad Johnson and the Minnesota Vikings. This will be a tough, hard fight the whole way.

  7. What he's not telling you, Kor, is that they were together a month, then broke up. He dated two other girls in that time, and Krissy dated another guy. after 4 or 5 months, though, they got together again. But, still, it is rare. And I'm in the same boat as you, Kor. When I was in HS I was what one might call a "Playa". It seemed like every two weeks I was with someone new. Dozens upon Dozens of first dates, and usually that's about as far as it went. As far as a funny first date? oh, probably Homecoming my Sophomore year. it was all going good until she insisted on taking me out on the dance floor during one of them grindin' songs. I suppose the best way to describe that night was that I ate, drank, and made a fool of myself. No surprise, that was also the last date with said girl.

  8. I guess Micheal Vick, John Lynch, and most surprising of all, RANDY MOSS all said they had reservations about playing with TO. Vick and Lynch don't surprise me. I'd never group them in the same group as TO (IE Loud, Obnoxious, just like his agent), but Randy Moss I would. So, I guess it says something when RANDY says something about not being so sure about having TO as a Team Mate...I guess he's destined for Obscurity...

  9. the only things I can see being as big as a Super-Class Star Destroyer would be a space station of some sort. The largest conventional starship, Starfleet or Alien, I could really see would be maybe 3200 meters.

Also, consider, Starfleet probably does have tanker ships to carry deuterium and Dilithium, what size would those tankers be? I can see them being between 800 and 1,000 meters.

  10. I am a Navy man, with seawater in my viens and General Purpose Grease in my coffee cup. On a boat is where I would live. the gentle rocking of the waves and the subtle thrum of the engines makes it easy to go to sleep there. and the best part about living on a boat---if you don't like the surroundings, then Full Speed Ahead to somewhere else, home and all!

C'Mon, Squiddy, I KNOW you love San Diego, which I'd say is a big city (It's in the top ten, isn't it? Somewhere behind Dallas and Miami?)

Big city. Right now, I'm livin' in the burbs, where the tallest building is like 6 stories tall, and a "Traffic Jam" is more than six cars on the main drag...

I do love the big city, Perticularly San Diego. There's just something about THAT city, I can't exactly put my toe on it, but there's just something. However, there is also something quite nice about living and working in the burbs.

  11. No.

I've never had one. I have a terrible credit rating.

    :blush 2:

(Hey, I got a ton of credit cards my freshman year in community college and I went nuts......., but I mostly bought Trek stuff, so that's okay right? )

I suppose a cell phone would be convenient some times, but I haven't missed not having one. I doubt I'll ever own or use one.

Not all Cell Phones require any kind of credit, APW. Check into Go-Phones, Boost, and TrakPhone. They are pay as you go. Go-Phones, by the way, are run by Cingulair, and T-Mobile also has a Pay as you Go option.

I have a Cell Phone, but I can't turn it on at work. However, it does stay with me in my briefcase, and I check it for messages during my prep period and at lunch. I never leave home without it. Wanna call me? My number is 224-717-****!

  12. This topic kind of reminds me of the movie Troy - boring movie btw - and I don't remember their exact phrase but they kept talking about dying with glory (or being immortalized etc). Anybody can die in a "blaze of glory" but a lot fewer people can live lives of honor and it's the latter that leave the real legacy.

So, to answer your question - I want to die knowing someone is better off for my having lived.

I think that's part of the reason I became a teacher and a coach. I can possitively influence someone's life, Perhaps even help them to make their lives better by being a teacher and a coach.

  13. I meant that like Roman Soldiers, American Soldiers are Builders. We do do things the romans would never have done, such as leave when we're done.

And Odie, I think the Milwaukee talk radio station actually covered that last story you posted on Friday. WTMJ is usually pretty good about the fair reporting. Then again, the afternoon show, "The Greenhouse" is hosted by an Air Force veteran, which may have something to do with it.

  14. I've noticed that Star Fleet does seem to have a size-progression as the years go by. The most advanced ships keep getting bigger. NX was the most advanced at 225 meters. Constitution at 300 meters, Excelsior at over 400, Ambassador at over 500, Galaxy at 646, and Soveriegn at 685. I wonder when Starfleet will commission it's first 1-KM (1,000 meter) starship? In Star Trek sims, these ships have already started to appear. Ships that are 1,000 meters or close to it being built by Utopia Planitia. One such ship is my new ship in the Eros sim (www.usseros.com) USS Georgia (www.freewebs.com/ussgeorgia) Georia is just over 1,000 meters, at actually 1,011. She is listed as a Battleship, but can also serve as an explorer and diplomatic starship, as well as command and control starship. other sites claim the Titan is actually over 1,000 meters long. I think it is really just a matter of time before we see such large starships under starfleet registry.
