  1. It's true, it is a team sport. 1 player doesn't guarantee victory, though poor play by 1 key player can seal a defeat.

That is true. A mishandled handoff or a fumble, or a bad punt, or (Sorry, Mr. Keading) a shanked field goal and spell defeat.

Football is the ultimate Team sport, followed by Bowling, you may laugh, but if one person on your team has a bad game the others can rally and take the win, but Football is a great team sport, take away a few components and the team can lose (Patriots)

Very good point. I think the Patriots and the Packers have something similar in common. They both lost key players in the off-season, and have been plagued by injuries (Terrance Murphy, who would probably have ended up the #2 reciever, bypassing Antonio Chatman and Robert Furgeson, may never play football again, and with Ahman Green out, the already shotty running game may take a big hit, while the Patriots are suffering from a rash of Defensive Injuries.)

  2. If you watch ESPN, or NFL Network, you can quickly get the feeling that a team's success comes down to one or two players. Many people might even believe that. Some believe that without Terrel Owens, the Eagles wouldn't have made the Superbowl last year. But, the Eagles went through the Playoffs without TO, and still made the Superbowl. Allow me to use Green Bay's monday night game as an example.

The Packers proved on Monday that it takes more than one great player to win. Brett Favre had one of the best games of his career. Favre completed 27 of 39 for 303 yards and 4 TDs, with one interception that is better classified as a Defensive Back stripping the ball from a WR, this game ranks up there with the famous Raiders/Packers Monday Night game, after Favre's father died. But, dispite this, the Packers still lost to Carolina. Why did they lose? Because it's very difficult to win when your defense allows 32 points. Because dispite the fact that they are ranked in the top 10 defending the Run, the Packers have a porous secondary that is not very effective against a passing game. and turnovers do hurt. two of them in the game hurt the Packers, including a critical turnover in the opening minutes that set up a Carolina Touchdown.

What it comes down to is this: The Packers' Offensive Line isn't opening up big running lanes for the Packers' 5 running backs: Green, Davenport, Fisher, Leach and Henderson. The Packers' Defense cannot defend the Pass. So, while the front 7 may do an exceptional job of stopping the run (They kept Steven Davis to under 60 yards on the night, quite a feat.) they leave the passing game wide open. Blocking and Tackling. If you block better and tackle better, you win. And the Packers aren't getting it done. Brett Favre could well throw 78 TDs this season, but without support from the other 21 starters, the Packers could still go 0-15. It's a team game. You need 11 men acting as one to win.

  3. Have the Patriots lost their touch? I just saw the scores from today's games, and the Chargers made the Pats look silly, to the tune of scoring 41 points and holding Brady and his crew to just 17 points. And they didn't give up 41 to one of the league's Powerhouse offenses like Indy, but to San Diego...I'm thinking my pick of Indy to go to the Superbowl might be accurate...

  4. Work, Family, Work, Work, Family, did I mention work?

I work 2 jobs (Teaching High School history and my 1 weekend a month, 2 weekend a year side job) and spend alot of time with my wife and kids. I even took a personal day today to go to the Brewers' last home game of the season with the family. I'm not sure, but I think that qualifies.

  5. Denver has the win. it's final, 30-10.

And as for the Packers, All the veterans are stepping up and claiming responsibility for their mistakes. Brett Favre wants to take the blame himself, but Billy Henderson, Rob Davis, and Ryan Longwell said "No, Sorry, Brett, we fudged up too." They say Football is a team game, and it was mistakes by a number of people that contributed to the Packers' 17-16 loss to Tampa. But, Packers fans, don't feel too bad, the Packers aren't out of anything yet. noone in the NFC North has more than 1 win.

A few of you may recognise that....Yes, that IS an Iowa Class Battleship. If ya ask me, there ain't a more beautiful ship anywhere in Fact or Fiction.

Well I would have to agreee...of course I actually served aboard the USS IOWA as a gunnermate, so I'm just a bit biased. :inlove:

Ya know Validus, for all of our disagreements, we have something in common. YOu were a GM on the Iowa. I was baptised on the New Jersey. and before I went to OCS, I was GM2 "Phaserman"

  7. Yeah. RP, who is a First Class Petty Officer, correct? Has to salute all Warrant Officers, Regardless of their Time in Service, or his. However, All Warrant and Chief Warrant Officers are junior to me (an O-2) and to all Ensigns/Second Lieutenants. Now, RP hit the nail on the head for WO and CWO duties in 4 of the 5 services (Coast Gaurd included.) In the Army, however, Warrant Officers can fly. The Army's Warrant Officer Flight Program allows Warrant Officers to become Army Aviators, flying Helicopters, including Attack Helicopters such as the Apache.

  8. As of 11 am EDT September 19 (1500 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Rita was located near Long Island, Bahamas, about 195 miles (315 km) southeast of Nassau, Bahamas, and 430 miles (690 km) east-southeast of Key West, Florida, with maximum sustained winds of 65 mph (100 km/h). Rita is moving west near 12 mph (19 km/h) and is forecast to pass over or just south of the Florida Keys into the Gulf of Mexico and reach hurricane status Monday afternoon or evening. In addition, Rita is forecast to become a major hurricane in the Gulf of Mexico in the next few days before a possible final landfall, most likely on the northern Mexico or Texas coast.

This is the current status of TS Rita from the Wikipedia. This doesn't sound good. The area where Katrina made landfall will not be hit directly but will probably get some nasty weather.

Here's the current 5 day track:

They are projecting that now, but Rita could take a slight (and all it would take is about 20 degrees) right turn and New Orleans will get hit again. Which is why Mayor Nagin cancelled his plans for people to come back in. By the end of the week, New Orleans could again be flooded. Let us hope and pray that such is not the case, though.

  9. So, Who will win the NFC North? The division in the National Football League's National Football Conference that boasts the most intense rivalries? Who will be left standing in the land of the Black and the Blue? Who's been drinkin' all the Haterade?

Let me tell you who isn't going to win the NFC North. The Minnesota Viqueens...I mean Vikings. Daunte Culpepper is playing not like a seasoned veteran, but rather like steak seasoning. He's lobbed 8, count them, folks, EIGHT, interceptions in two games. He looks confused on the field, as if he's still expected #84 to jump up and grab his passes out of the hands of opponents. But, 84 in Purple is now 18 in black. The Vikings without Randy Moss look like a great big pile of Chicago Bear droppings.

Speaking of the Bears, surprise folks, they have a chance to win it. Maybe. They have the defense that noone else has. And, their Offense looks like it might have actually started clicking. But, that's what having Mushin Mohammed will do for you. He did it with the Panthers, and now he's doing it in Chi-town.

What about those Posers from Pontiac? The Detriot Lions looked like their namesakes against the Packers. But, against the Bears, they looked like a bunch of inept, catnip-sniffing (I'm trying to say a bad word but can't)cats. Joey Harrington, if he played anywhere else, would be a career benchwarmer. Mooch, put Jeff Garcia in. Garcia with a broken leg has got to be an improvement over a healthy Joey Harrington.

Now, the Pack. They looked pretty bad against the Lions. They practically shot themselves in the collective foot last week with penalties. THis week, not so many penalties, but the loss of Javon Walker appears to be felt, though Donald Driver is stepping up. While the Packers are in the same boat as the Vikings, at 0-2, they have one advantage over the Purple Norsemen. Brett Favre looked as sharp as ever against the Browns. Again, though, Penalties hurt Green Bay's efforts, and their Defensive Secondary had more holes than a 1 pound block of Swiss Cheese. If any team can overcome their weaknesses, though, it is Green Bay. As long as #4 is manning the helm, this Packers team will not be out of contention. If ever there was proof, it was in the game against the Browns. Down 26-17 with 30 seconds to go, the Packers kept working. The Offense could have took a knee, but they drove down the field to the 4 yard line, where Brett Favre threw his 3rd Touchdown pass of the game. It was too little, too late for the Pack, but they did not give up. Perhaps this never-give-in spirit will be what allows Green Bay to prevail in a division that is more wide open than the Montana Sky.

  10. Jack mentioned the Hurricanes from last year, From what I've heard, areas such as Pensacola, Florida are STILL rebuilding from last season's strikes. I'd expect the rebuilding from Katrina will take a few years at best. Let's just hope, though, that they don't get another one landing in there any time soon.

  11. I'll see what I can do, Wally. Maybe I'll scamper over to the Army Recruiters and pretend I'm interested in Joining the Army and get you the hook-up. I just won't tell the guys in the office that I outrank each and every one of them.

  12. Whoa boy, now you've got me started!  :(

Making major decisions (housing, investment/saving, retirement ....)

Noise (planes, cars, motorcycles, loud mouths etc)

Smoke, pollution (related to health and allergies)

    Issues of rich and poor

    Loss of freedoms

Corporations/special interest groups exercising more influence in government than regular people

Sad state of Education in America

    Bigotry, hate and bias

I'll stop for now, but there's more.  :(

    350755[/snapback]

You're from Chi-town, so you know all about corrupt city governments...

The lack of a good education system does concern me, and I think part of it is teachers. Do you really want to be in school if all of your teachers just sit there and spew facts? Our students need more interactive education. I'm here to provide that.

Sex Offenders do bother me grately. I checked the Sex Offender registry, and there is something like 85 in my town...which is a town of about 22,000 people. Sure, it's not a HUGE number, but it's big enough to worry a concerned father.
