  1. OK, here is my official entry. I've made a few minor changes. I hope it isn't too late, I didn't see an official deadline.

    Click for Spoiler:

I was going to make some more but I can't seem to find the time, it is the season you know

I've noticed that VBG has begun putting the banners in the rotation. I hope it won't be too difficult exchanging my banner. Sorry VBG.

  2. Shatner does commercials for All-Bran and he's in some sort of tooth whitening commercial (all he does is riverdance  ) (I don't get it).

I've seen the tooth whitening commercial, kind of strange isn't it? He's like river dancing in this womans dream while she sleeps with the "whitening" strip in place.

Shatner also does/did commercials for the WebTV (now msnTV) internet terminal.

  3. Well, how do ya explain "Checking In" being a spin-off of "The Jeffersons" being a spin-off of "All in the Family", eh?

Because the other trek series are not spin-offs, they are an appendium to the original Star Trek. Sequels and prequels.

  4. Except for TNG cause it came after TOS and thus HAD to be based on it. How is Voyager based on TNG, and how is Enterprise based on TOS?

What??? How could it possibly be based on anything else? lol. We all must forget temporal time lines a moment and think in the reality of today. It is all based on Star Trek!

The opening credits of every episode of every series begins with: Based on Star Trek created by Gene Roddenberry, with the exception of Star Trek, which simply states: Created By Gene Roddenberry.

  5. Something to consider. Each series has the Star Trek prefix, except one...

    Star Trek

    Star Trek:The Next Generation

    Star Trek:Deep Space Nine

    Star Trek:Voyeger

    Star Trek:Enterprise

    IMHO, that says it all.

Correction, I meant to say "suffix" not "prefix". Sorry about that  Wait a minute, I don't mean that either, what the heck am I trying to say, LOL!

  6. In 1976 I was given all kinds of Star Trek stuff for Christmas, I had an Enterprise Bridge with transporter, I had Kirk, Spock, McCoy and Scotty. They were dolls about the size of a Ken doll.

OMG! I had that set too! I think I also had the Uhura and Sulu dolls. Do you still have it? I stupidly lost mine in the course of growing up. I also had the Planet Of The Apes set, which came with the dolls and an ape house. You don't know the fun I had merging the Star Trek and the Planet Of The Ape's worlds with those toys :bag:

I vividly remember my first encounter with Star Trek. It was the episode "Space Seed" from the OS. It was the original prime time airing (yes, I'm that old, but I was very young then  ), I watched it with my mom ... who was/is a huge fan of the OS.

  7. I've heard from a pretty good sourse that the new TOS DVD sets WILL have NEW SFX.

By new FX do you mean the original FX touched up, or completely updated FX?

Myself, being a fan raised on TOS, I would be very upset and feel sort of insulted if the FX were totally redone, updated, and "modernized". I loved the show as it was.

  8. My pick is a personal one. I'm a Hoosier, the Colts are my team ... no matter what.

The colts have had a problem with defence and stopping the run as of late, don't know why, Dungy had them playing excellent D earlier in the season, but we have had some key injuries on defence.

The Colts have had a very strong schedule this season and have beaten some great teams, including the Titans ... can't wait for the rematch ;)

Today will be yet another tough test for my Colts with the Patriots, another contending team they have to face this season.

  9. Stardate:213912.8

I can imagine the last episode of the last series.Millions around the globe watching as a young Captian named James Kirk stepped onto the bridge of a ship named Enterprise and said "Space..the final fronteir........" as the camera fades out.

That would be so cool

Woo-Hoo, your comment sent shivers. What an awsome visualization!

I would also like to see a series set after VOY, that would be my choice if I weren't so apprehensive that the next series (or even ENT) may be the last. We all know how finicky show biz can be, they can cancel a show on a moments notice. I would be upset if it didn't get back to TOS era before that happens.

I like CJLP's idea, going a decade or two before TOS. That would put the series smack in Captain Christopher Pike's time-line, perhaps the series could be based on the original pilot, "The Cage". Phaser riffles and cannons, how cool is that ;)

BTW, I thought the phaser cannon in The Cage was awsome looking as it was! I never liked the hard, ultra-streamlined, metallic look of the modern series. Magnetic bottles made of simi-clear ultra-strong glass like material containing the energy flow (which we could actually see pulsating within the cannon) looks way more futuristic to me. With modern special effects that cannon could be made to look even more awsome.

  10. Well, not that it matters much, since I'm obviously going against the grain here and most seem to accept trek in whatever form presented to them, but ...

I've been clicking the spoilers in TUH and AE's posts and I have no idea what they are talking about. You see, I missed the first two seasons of ENT entirely (not my fault, my cable service didn't start carrying UPN until this fall), so how can I enjoy this series?

I would like to see trek based on space exploration in the tradition of TOS, not time travel. If I wanted time travel in the tradition of Scott Bakula, I'd watch Quantum Leap re-runs  ;)

The producers, before ENT premiered, said they wanted the series to find a balance between VOY's episodic style and DS9's serialised style.

I didn't know that, perhaps that is why VOY is my favorite post TOS series.

And I apologize if I offended anyone, as Spock would say, I must learn to better govern my emotions. I really want to see an episodic TOS era series before it's all said and done.

  11. Assuming there is another Star Trek series after Enterprise, in what era should it take place? The choices are for that general era, selecting an era does not necessarily mean that you would like to see the next Star Trek series take place at the exact same time as the era choice, post to specify.

Personally, I get the feeling that if there is another Star Trek series after Enterprise it just might be the last, and if that is indeed the case, I think it only fitting that they finish it where it all began ... in TOS era.

  13. Brilliant storytelling? It's a cheap device. Why?

The writers are not brilliant enough to make ENT interesting without it ... cheap device.

TOS has proven that you don't need an arching TCW storyline to produce great time travel episodes. See The Naked Time, Tomorrow Is Yesterday, City On The Edge Of Forever, Assignment:Earth, etc.

BTW, the TCW idea started in TOS with Assignment:Earth, which Gene actually took to the network as a possible spin-off, but they didn't want the series so it didn't happen.

I don't like story arc's like the TCW because it takes away your ability to watch the show casually. I've missed a few shows this season and I'm lost. I don't know a thing about future guy and the rest of it, and if I can't watch a TV show casually I usually turn it off completely. It also squashes ratings since a new viewer can't tune in mid-season and know what's going on ... bad idea.

  14. I don't think being on Fox or NBC would change the individual episodes but I do think that the ratings would be very different ( a lot better)if ENT were on a larger network.

I know it sounds illogical, but I don't think it would help the ratings. If it were on NBC, CBS, etc, they would kill it, the fact that it is on UPN has kept it alive.

  15. I can't respond to this poll because I do like stand-alone time travel episodes. And as I said in the carpenter street thread it's the TCW I don't care for ... so if you had asked, "Do you like the TCW", I could have answered no.

As with any TV show, I want to be able to watch it casually. I don't like missing a few episodes then being lost the rest of the season. This is why I liked TOS so well, you always knew what was going on even if you missed an episode or two because you enjoyed a night out instead. And yes, of course I know about VCR's and such, but what if I simply just want to skip it?

  16. Also, as far as it not being possible until the time of TOS just look at the Guardian of Forever, it had existed in it's then present form since "before our sun burned bright in the sky". So time travel, in Trek, has been possible since well before humanity existed.

You're right, time travel was possible for others from just about the beginning of time.

I loved City On The Edge Of Forever, one of the best Star Trek episodes ever, but it was a stand-alone time travel episode that didn't require an arching time travel storyline (war) to happen ... and that's what made it so great.

I just don't like the TCW. As "City" has proven, we don't need all the extra cerebral baggage of a TCW to travel in time. The TCW makes it difficult to casually watch the show. With TOS, you could miss a few episodes (go out to the movies, or a ballgame, or out to dinner) and still know exactly what was going on.

You take tonight for instance, I missed ENT because I was doing something way more important ... spending time with my 3 year old son. I want to be able to tune in next week and know exactly whats going on, the TCW makes that difficult.

  17. While I have read a lot of posters don't like time travel episodes, I have always loved them. If the TCW and the Xindi war come together as we have been suspecting, the second half of this season should be even better than the first!

I like some time travel episodes, it's the TCW that I loathe ... which they had to "invent" to have time travel episodes since time travel wasn't possible until TOS. I want to like this series but the TCW idea prevents me from enjoying it, and I must admit that you are partly right.

I'm not a big fan of time travel in general, mainly because I don't believe time travel will ever be possible, at least not huge amounts of time, so basing a major war around time travel just turns me off ... I want Star Trek, not "The Time Machine".

  18. Yeah, I'm having second thoughts about the "Kirk" series, but I don't think it would be boring. Seeing the events and adventures of Kirk's meteoric rise to the captain's chair would be, I think, exciting, especially when you factor in modern effects et al.

For some strange reason I get the feeling that if there is another series it just might be the last, and if so, it would only be fitting to end it where it all started ... in TOS era.

  19. Yep, in the newer series and movies we are refered to as Terran. I think in TOS we were mostly refered to as Humans, but in "The Trouble With Tribbles" (TOS) the Klingons called us Earthers, probably Klingon slang.

BTW, I have no problem with Earthling :dude: The Gorn in Arena (TOS) called Kirk an Earthling.

  20. Yes, I think a pure exploration trek can make it, especially if they return to the TOS era and finish the original 5 year mission with another crew. How cool would an updated (modern effects, etc.) TOS era series be? I think very cool.

I think another very cool idea for trek would be to follow James T. Kirk from the academy to the captain's chair, and actually see the great accomplishments of Kirk only hinted at in TOS. No doubt it would be interesting.

At any rate, I think it's time to return to the TOS era. TOS era fans like myself have been waiting a long time and it's only fair ... we've had TNG, DS9, VOY, and ENT. Now it's time to return to TOS era.

  21. Most people I know who oppose the draft, outside of major war, are usually conservative patriates with high values on personal rights and freedoms.  You say it's fear, I say it's exercising freedom.

But that freedom was bought and paid for by the blood of men (and women) who fell in foreign wars ... on your behalf. And a great many of them were drafted I'm sure, and I'm sure that some of them didn't like it, but did their duty for their country.

Sorry, I wasn't going to comment on this thread but couldn't help myself.
