  1. I too like ATCSL, it reminds me of a ST film I enjoy: ST5: The Final Frontier. Now I'm wondering if the Gorgon and the entity at Shak-a-ree could be related, know what I mean?

Yes, the inner beast that must be deal with, and you make an interesting point, perhaps they are the same race of beings?

  2. Well, it wasn't a great episode, or possibly even a good episode, but it was an ok episode and I liked it ... I tought it was one of the more chilling episodes of Star Trek.

The other forum thought the chant used by the children to summon up the Gorgan was more than they could bare, I too thought it was kind of corny, but I get around it by using the mute button  Also the casting of Melvin Belli as the "friendly angel" (in what appears to be a dress) was frowned upon.

I thought it was a great story idea and probably could have been done better. Perhaps not seeing what was so terrifing to the crew members (swords in space, old age, etc.) would have made it even more chilling.

BTW, I kind of liked "Spock's Brain" too, and personally believe that "Turnabout Intruder" is about as bad as it got in Star Trek.

  3. Many feel that "And The Children Shall Lead" was the worst episode, but I kind of liked it ...

I thought most of the episode had a Twilight Zone feel. You could almost hear Twilight Zone music in the background when Kirk was giving out orders that no one could/would follow or understand. Then Chekov tries to arrest Kirk and Spock ... "Where did you hear these orders ensign?" ... do-DO-do-do do-DO-do-do ;)

What is your opinion of this episode?

BTW, yes, it was I that cross posted this somewhere else. I like startrekfans.net and wish there were more interest in TOS here ... perhaps we can change that ;)

  4. I can't pick just one!

    Favs not on the list:

    Who Mourns For Adonias?

    The Apple

    By Any Other Name

    Pattern's Of Force

    The Ultimate Computer

    From the list:

    Amok Time

    The Doomsday Machine

    Journey To Babel

    A Wolf In The Fold

    A Piece Of The Action

And of course The Trouble With Tribbles, don't know why it isn't listed since we are to pick the best/fav of the season.

  5. What? no Spock's Brain? ;)

I agree with Alterego, there is no way I can pick just one. Here are some excellent episodes left of the list (and my favs from the third season):

Day Of The Dove (one of my favs from any season)

Plato's Stepchildren (first interracial kiss on network television, and a dang good epi!)

    That Which Survives

    From the list I like:

    The Enterprise Incident

    All Our Yesterdays

    Spectre Of The Gun

  6. Our first Animated Banner!   That is so COOL Dillard! Well done! :)

Hey! I specifically asked VBG earlier in this thread if we could use flash (and I meant any animation) and was told:

Flash is great but wouldn't work for the board banner so I won't be able to include it in the rotation banner. I'm inclined to say that Flash can be used but won't be voted on simply because not everyone knows how to do flash and the flash entries might have an unfair advantage because they can be so much "flashier".

    oh well, nice banner ddillard!

That one is a gif not a Flash file. And last I heard I don't think the mods are eligible for the contest anyway, that may have changed though. I was just doing it for fun.

I know it's a gif ddillard, but it's still animation. I know I should have specifically said flash or animated gif in my initial inquiry to VBG, but I really did mean any animation.

Anyway, I'm not upset nor do I have a problem with it, I just wish I had known before, I'd have made animated banners ... too late now.

  8. I think that it would be cool to have him help out as long as he is not like his father.  I have read to many books that said Roddenberry took credit for things that he did not do.

Gene Roddenberry created Star Trek, and as such, deserves credit for everything derived from or added to it. For instance, as a musician, I can't cover a standard pop song without giving credit (not to mention licencing fees) to the original creator of the work. It was Gene's idea. And I hope his son is like him, maybe then we can get trek moving back in the right direction

  9. ya i geuss we are doing all celebrations for all religions. but i still wanted to honour christmas as it is.

I understand Bysty, and that's perfectly fine, I'm just saying that as a christian when you say Seasons Greetings or Happy Holidays it doesn't necessarily mean that you are supporting other religions or trying to remove Jesus from christmas or anything like that, it just means that you are saying Merry Christmas and Happy New Year in one phrase.

  10. Thank you CJLP, apology accepted, and I admit that I may have over-reacted ... sorry. But story arc or not, it doesn't make pre-mature cancellation of a beloved program any easier to take ... it's a bitter pill. There were many more stories to be told, planets to explore, and new life to be discovered by the OS crew ... the mission was cut way too short.

  11. Um, dude...  I wasn't chucking your feelings into the garbage, I was saying that there wasn't any specific TOS story you missed versus the Romulan War.  Please, let's not get all sensitive.

Well, what did you expect? Your comment: "There wasn't anything in particular you missed", in the context of this conversation translates to: "unimportant".

  12. What about the Romulan War?  They'll be cancelling the show just before we get to the good part! :(

You will understand how the fans of TOS felt, and why we want to return to TOS era and finish the original five year mission!

Yes, but TOS was episodic. There wasn't anything in paticular you missed. With ENT, we "know" what we'll be missing, and that's the Romulan War.

Really? I find it disturbing the ease in which you can chuck my feelings as well as the feelings of other TOS fans into the garbage like that ... bravo! TOS is just as endearing to me as ENT is to you, and our mission was cut short by two whole years. Episodic or no, we were robbed of two seasons which we didn't get to see.

If they cancel ENT you will know how we felt ... no difference, unless, of course, you feel that your feelings and your show is somehow more important than mine.

  13. Personally I don't see why "Happy Holidays" is so bad, but I'm fine with "Merry Christmas" as well.  I think only reason we use the term happy holidays is because not everyone celebrates christmas.  Happy holidays is a term that can be used by anyone, but I guess if your a real fan for christmas you'll probably wanna stick with the true christmas saying merry christmas.

well its just like ddillard said: it IS too generic. Christmas is about Jesus and when we say happy holidays, it just seems to push Jesus even more out of Christmas, when in fact it is his holiday. im just a nit-picker i geuss. lol

I used "Seasons Greetings" because the banners will be up for both holidays, not just christmas day. I don't feel as though I'm being generic or disrespectful in any way.

  14. MOORE: Yeah. Rick's rule was that you couldn't mention Kirk or Spock, in any context. Their names were not allowed to be mentioned. And it got to the point where – Ira probably told you this story – where he and I were working on "Sarek" in Season 3, and Sarek is doing this whole mindmeld thing with Picard, and we're dealing with his life and his mental well-being, and to an extent his emotional well-being. And how can you not mention Spock? And Rick was like, "No. You can't mention his name."

Every series since TNG has slid in popularity and ratings, with Enterprise experiencing a serious case of doldrums. Last week's Thanksgiving episode was one of the least watched Star Trek episode ever.

Rick's Rule -- very sad indeed, but at least now I know I'm not the only person who doesn't like Berman Trek! I sometimes feel like an outcast here at startrekfans ... DS9 and Enterprise rule! B)

  15. Those are all great banners! Thanks for sharing.

Here's the other banner I was working on, not my official entry, but I thought you all might like to see it; Captain Kirk makes a good Santa B)

VBG, I know this isn't an official entry (can we have more than one?), but you're welcome to add this to the rotation if you like, I'll understand if you can't tho B)

  16. Well, it's a difficult choice. I've thought about it a day or so and I have to go with Doomsday Machine.

William Windom, as Commodore Decker, gave us one of the very best acting moments of the entire series.

"They say there's no devil Jim ... but I saw it ... straight out of hell, I saw it" (mouth wide open, head shaking).

    10 ... 9 ... 8 ... 7 ... 6 ...Kirk: "Gentlemen, I suggest you beam me aboard" 5 ... 4 ... 3 ...
