  1. Wonder how long it will be before the Star Trek Universe (and Starfleet) starts seeing ships as massive as the Star Wars Imperial Star Destroyers and heavy cruisers? Those ships are several kilometers in length with crews that number in the tens of thousands.

I personally dislike the larger ships in the STU (Star Trek Universe).

I don't like 'em larger than, say the Ambassador. I don't see the need for such massive ships.

  2. I saw a photo of a Borg made-up to look like a George Romero-Zombie.....it was AWESOME!

There's no way the network would have allowed TNG to use those zombie Borg, but it would've been fun.

These Romero Borg had fogged-over "dead" eyes, yellowish-pale flesh, blue veins visible close under the skin, and just a general look of High-Tech decay....scary.

I guess my favorite Borg, that actually made it onto Star Trek were the First Contact Borg.

My favorite Queen, Alice Krige. :)

  3. That's good (that race wasn't used in the campaign). Now, I hope he does a good job as mayor.

I had high hopes that J.C. Watts, a dynamic young African-American Republican from Oklahoma would move on from Congress to higher office. But he caved in to ostracization from the black community in his home state. I remember reading where he'd receive letters calling him an Oreo, a sell out, and all sorts of things. His family was threatened.....all that nonsense.

Its too bad. J.C. Watts had a great head on his shoulders.

  4. I would say in my sleep.

But I've always worried about whether or not I'd know I was dead (I, my spirit "soul",etc) or would I simply believe I was dreaming and be trapped in that dream-mode, never understanding why I wasn't waking up and watching the world move on around me. That would be hellish.

I don't spend too much time thinking about death.

  5. Fresno has a station called KJWL (I think)....it's called K-Jewel, anyhoo.

It starts playing X-Mas music at the stroke of midnight after Thanksgiving Day and plays nothing but Christmas tunes until New Year's Eve. I love it. Bing Crosby, Burl Ives, Nat King Cole, Sammy Davis....it doesn't get much better than that.

I also have a favorite traditional country music station (online) that plays Christmas music in December.

  6. Okay.

I downloaded Spybot and several of LOTB's suggested programs. They all found and deleted or fixed 69 adware that my Webroot Spysweeper hadn't even detected.

Then I went to McAfee's Support forums and downloaded VirtumundoBeGone and let it sweep my PC for that trojan. It instantly found it and annihilated it (I hope)....

Subsequent sweeps with AdAware, Spybot, and Spy Sweeper are coming back clean. Thank God.

I'll run a few more sweeps tomorrow just to be sure.

But, I'd like to thank everybody. You all really helped a lot.

I also have downloaded Firefox. I'm going to run that tomorrow and get away from IE.

  7. I spoke too soon.

    trojan-downloader-conhook reappeared this morning.

We've been slugging it out all day. It's a stalemate as I wait for the techs at 3 different websites to e-mail me.

I've sent the techs at Webroot, McAfee, and Bullguard my Highjack This and Spysweeper session logs. Now all I can do is wait.

I hate this. It's like knowing somebody is mucking about in your house and not being able to stop them....

I've run Spybot, but I'm having trouble interpreting the red items I need to keep from those I should fix.

  8. I ran my daily spyware sweep tonight and my spysweeper told me that I have a trojan called "trojan-downloader-conhook".

But my McAfee security center says I'm fine.

I deleted the trojan upon completion of my spysweep, and just to be safe ran another....and there it was again. I deleted it. It's back again. I delete it....and

    It's back once more.

I checked adware glossary's at McAfee and Symantec and neither contains this particular trojan. But my spysweeper classifies it as a very high risk. I found one website with forums about this trojan, but I couldn't follow the message board discussions on how to kill the dang thing. All the tehnobabble just flew right over my head.

Any advice or assistance would be appreciated.

  9. I just wanted to add an additional warning to members who are going to view these sites mentioned by peewee, the sites intention may be admirable but some of the content on the site is quite disturbing so be wary about what you're going to view.

    Oops.

Sorry, I forgot to add the warning. My bad.

Matt is right. Underaged members here should not visit these sites as one of them (Perv-Just) does have mature images. :frusty:

I have become especially interested in bringing down scumbags like this since moving into my new home. My new neighborhood is part of a community that has, reportedly, California's highest concentration of sexual predators (of all types). About twice a week police officers knock on my door with a flier and news of another predator being parolled or released from prison and moving in.

I checked my neighborhood at a website that keeps records on where known predators live, and within a 5-mile radius of my home there are more than 40.

  10. The mainstream media will NEVER report anything positive concerning the war.

It shatters the myth that the entire war is an enormous cluster**** and that U.S. and allied soliders are nothing more than target practice for insurgents with RPGs.

One of the only ways to get to the many positive stories is by visiting the websites of the various branches of service, and view their media content.

  11. Do they then place these people under citizen's arrest?

They run sting operations with adults posing as children online. Usually they set up a "sex date" with a child predator and video record the encounter when the guy shows up at the agreed upon location (usually a motel). They guy runs away, and the people working with these sites then deliver their tapes and records of the online chat room sessions to police for further investigation. Once the police/District Atty's office has the recordings and chat logs, they usually prosecute these pedophiles. I think perverted-justice has been responsible for something like 57 felony convictions this year alone.

Though, some law enforcement agencies consider the people at perverted-justice to be reckless vigilantes, other police organizations have posted positive remarks about the group on their website.

  12. Nope.

I don't visit too many message boards.

There are like 4 sites I visit virtually every day, at least once.

Other than those sites, I mostly frequent Christian-oriented sites or the NFL's website. That's it.

So, this rep rating is common?

    Hmm....

  13. I was just browsing a message board I've never been too previously. It had a feature I haven't seen anywhere else.

Every member had a "Rep" rating at the pottom of their avatar. How it worked was, other members either give you a positive or negative "rep" based on how well they like your posts (how articulate you are, how well you present your ideas or arguments, how well you spell, various other things). Positives earn you a higher "rep" (reputation, I guess). Negatives (members who post negatives must tell the person they gave an negative to who they are and why they felt justified in giving them the negative), lower your rep. Members with better Rep's get avatars and access to restricted areas (like that site's version of Q'onos - a forum for hot topics),

while lower rep's are stuck in the "cotton candy-ish" forums where nothing much interesting happens.

I'm not sure I'd like that. But thought it was interesting.

  14. No.

I've never had one. I have a terrible credit rating.

    :blush 2:

(Hey, I got a ton of credit cards my freshman year in community college and I went nuts......., but I mostly bought Trek stuff, so that's okay right? )

I suppose a cell phone would be convenient some times, but I haven't missed not having one. I doubt I'll ever own or use one.

  15. One of my nephews loves My Space.

But I heard on a news program tonight that My Space is crawling with online child predators and pedophiles. So, I'm a little worried. Not for my nephew. He's got a good head on his shoulders, and at 16-years old the kid's big enough to be a linebacker in the NFL already  I pity the perv that tries anything with him.

But, I am concerned about the other kids there.

I've never been to My Space, so I have no idea if the news program was accurate. But their story was frightening. :frusty:

  16. I saw these websites on a news show tonight (Dateline, I think) and I decided to check them both out.

    Perverted Justice

    and Protect Kids.Org

I love these kinds of sites. Anyone involved in hunting down and bringing to justice child predators is okay in my book. Perverted-Justice has photos of guys who have met online (and set up "sex" visits with) persons they believe to be underage girls and boys, but who are in fact members of these sites. They even have logs of online chats with these sickos.

Besides all that, they also have some great tips for keeping your kids safe online.

You can support them by linking their sites in your Yahoo or MSN personals (they say they prefer the links to other donations), as this allows them to spread awareness about the sites. And who knows? You may just save some kids life without ever knowing about it, if his or her parents see a predator who may live near them on one of these sites. (Remember, these aren't guys who have served time and been supposedly "reformed", these are men actively seeking sexual contact with very young kids).

    Anyway, just thought I'd share.

    Later!
