  1. Star Trek: Plot Revealed (SPOILERS)

    By Bob Alpi ⋅ August 31, 2008

The writers of the new Star Trek movie have let the tribbles out of the bag during an appearance on the Fox Movie channel, Chud.com reports. Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman were kind enough to discuss the plot line of latest Star Trek film, and in doing so explained how the film will fit within the overall cosmology of the franchise.

The story starts in “current time” (think the Next Generation era) and involves a plot by the Romulans to go back and time to kill James T. Kirk (Chris Pine). Without Kirk to thwart their plans, the timeline will be altered and the Romulans will be able to topple the Federation. Learning of this plan, Spock (Leonard Nimoy) follows them back through time to save his old friend.

Putting aside this Terminator-esque aspect of the plot, the concept raises some interesting possibilities. Once the intrepid crew of the Enterprise deal with this threat, future movies could follow different courses. Were the timeline to be altered in some way, they could effectively erase all we know about the history of Star Trek. For example, Jean Luc could end up making wine instead of joining Star Fleet. Another possibility is the establishing of an alternate timeline where the crew could seek out life irregardless to what we have seen before.

While enduring the long wait until May, watch PCZ for more developments.

Star Trek is due in theaters May 8th, 2009

  2. L.I.S.? Quuuiiite a difference! Did watch it as a kid, and I have fond memories. Oh, the pain!!! Warning, warning!!! ......yes, as we look at it with a cold, modern-sf eye, Will and co. do not measure up. But, it is what it is, and Classic..I shall always love. TOS dealt with large, and even crucial issues, be it overpopulation, racism, et al...Gene was able to sneak in these things under the guise of a futuristic drama, with characters, who, yet, were human-or in part-and an entertaining, action-type, so often show, that stands the test of time..and begat some other afves of mine. LIS was purer light-sf, so to speak..wellllll...verry light. Both have their place, in the TV lexicon.

    Awesome post!

For the reasons you mentioned I really do LOVE both shows, however if I had to pick one I would go with TOS for the reasons you mention both were great Sci-fi adventures, but Trek always had more beneath the surface than Lost in Space.

  3. Personally, I think that all of the surviving original cast members should have a bit part in the movie, except for Koenig (just to piss him off)..... :Hmmm...:

They wouldn't play their Trek characters but would play a bit part somewhere. They did that in the "Lost In Space" movie and it was wonderful.

The funny thing is with the 'Lost in Space' movie is they didn't get the original Dr. Smith (Johnathan Harris) who was pretty much the star of the show for any cameos.

  4. I suspect that next year or the year after, one will be able to buy all three seasons in a BLU-RAY format as one separate box set.

Then they'll start tarting up TNG episodes - released as separate dvd series; then THEY'll be released as BLU-RAY; then DS9'll be released as BLU-RAY, and the cash cow'll keep going and going.

You'll never be done upgrading. It is really just not fair.

Answer me this: why can they not release every episode of Star Trek ever made in one huge BLU-RAY set? Because that'd skip straight to the end of the Monopoly game - past jail etc and the production companies would miss out on all the money they could squeeze out of fans along the way.

So I am hapy to catch episodes on tv as there are always reruns all the time. And I am going to wait whatever number of years it'll take to get my ultimate BLU-RAY box set. In the meantime, my well earned cash can go elsewhere.

I bought the HD-DVD Version of TOS Remastered Season one which is now useless in my BLURAY player...

Prometheus, it's called capitalism and 'God Bless America' nowhere is there a more shining example than right here in the good old USofA. :Hmmm...:

And you are correct, it's a treadmill that never ends. I almost bought the 2004 sets, but I waited for these. When the Blu-Ray comes out I'll have to pass on those sets because I am treating myself now.

  5. I look forward to seeing this cat stuffed and put on display at a "Ripley's Believe It Or Not " museum..... :Hmmm...:

I went to the one in Nigara Falls. All kinds of stuff like that on display. I got a kick out of seeing the "real" shrunken heads up close.

I've walked past the ones in St. Augustine & Orlando, but the novelty of seeing authentic shrunken heads is a one shot deal.

  6. I recieved a PM from a member once who was obessed with Geordi. It was a little disturbing. The kind where if I was LeVar Burton I'd worry about finding a bunny boiling on the stove. :Hmmm...:

My girlfriend becomes alarmingly obsessed with actors/actresses sometimes. Her newest one is Robert Downing, Jr.

It's lasted all summer and is still going strong...I'm beginning to feel like the third wheel in her gushfest. :P

Well, this lady told me how LeVar was going to leave his wife for her and some other 'out there' stuff. :Hmmm...:

  7. Putting the William Shatner's appearance rumor to rest, the 'Star Trek' director simply rejected the idea that the actor will be seen in the movie.

Providing a certain answer to fans' still-burning question about the possibility of William Shatner making an appearance in the upcoming "Star Trek", director J.J. Abrams puts any speculations to rest. While discussing about his forthcoming television series "Fringe" in New York, the filmmaker insisted that the original Captain Kirk will not show up in the movie.

On the matter, Abrams rejected Shatner's chance on appearing in the film simply saying as quoted by IGN, " No, the only cast member from the original films is Nimoy." By stating Nimoy, he meant Leonard Nimoy, the original depicter of the USS Enterprise's science officer Mr. Spock. Previously, Shatner has also denied his involvement in the eleventh film saying, "I have no connection with the film whatsoever. It's the strangest thing. Even my dear friend Leonard [Nimoy] won't tell me what it's about."

Sharing further about the movie's status, Abrams revealed that he is expecting that the film's final cut is coming soon. "We're not done with it but we are working on it still. There have been cuts and, as everything goes, [it's] an evolution. I'm hoping the final cut is a few weeks away. But we're definitely circling," explained the producer of "Cloverfield".

Following the story of the young Captain Kirk and his USS Enterprise crew during their years at Starfleet Academy, "Star Trek" teams up Chris Pine, Zachary Quinto, Eric Bana, Zoe Saldana, Karl Urban and many others. The movie scripted by Roberto Orci and Alex Kurtzman is due to be released on May 8, 2009.

  8. Oh cool! I'm glad she's taken on the role wholeheartedly. I'm already planning to go into Dallas and paying a LOT for the premiere of this one at a nice theater, and I'll be happy to do the same for sequels.

    Ditto.

I really don't go out to the movies on the opening weekend that often anymore, but I'll be making an exception for Star Trek XI!
