  1. Everyone in my family firmly believes in NASA and stuff like that-- as I type, I'm running seti@home in the background (aargh! Only 8.850%...).

roguedawg-- what about the shuttle Columbia? What did she think of that?

As for the radiation shielding necessary to get anywhere-- well, look at it this way. A few decades ago, you could have described the Internet and been told that it was scifi.

  2. I think this might be a good idea. Let the old school and their ideas try and save Trek

And if they're not sucessful? How much of a chance at getting anywhere do you give them?

I don't think that might work-- Trek has a whole new audience to attract, and guess who's gonna do that. Right. They will, if they're represented.

  3. One of the things I love about Trek is how it's willing to explore today's issues-- in the far future. The whole "designer baby" episode was pretty annoying, however-- I still can't understand why B'lanna wasn't punished for the whole Doctor-reprogramming bit.

I watched this with a very young cousin (who isn't much of a Trekkie)-- guess what he said. "Wouldn't they have better birth control or something, if it's the future?" :dude:

That brings something to mind-- if it is the future, why haven't they managed to resolve the designer baby thing once and for all by then (as in, before the show started)?

  4. Generally, I don't like novelizations of movies or TV--nor do I like movies/series drawn from books (with the notable exceptions of The Wizard of Oz and Shrek). That holds true for the most part with Trek, although there have been exceptions.

  5. I'd say a regular, as she seemed to have some story lines on her own (love Spock) that wouldn't have been essential (or all that interesting) if she was a recurring minor character. However, she did have less of a part than the other regulars, so it's hard to pick...

  6. I don't think it was all that free of violence-- Klingon, Romulan, what-have-you-- those were still there. My favorite era would have to be VOY, however, just because that's my favorite show. All of the eras have about equal attractions for me.

  7. I'm just curious...Chataeya mentioned voting for Janeway because "It was nice to see a female in that role, for a change".  Do women tend to vote for Janeway because she is a woman?

Nope. I had trouble deciding between Picard and Janeway-- I went with the latter solely because VOY's my favorite series.
