Both portals are equally good to me except for what Alterego and Picard said. Especially the dark green text - that was the reason I stuck with the original skin!

I think the Trivia is just right for now. Maybe a tad easy, but then again if we make it much harder it won't be fun. I'd keep it the way it is.

Also, the reason Google is considered better than Yahoo is that Google lists pages by links rather than the number of times your search word appears. For example:

You search for "battery"

On Google:

Website with 1000 links to it.

Website with 1000 mentions of "battery"

On Yahoo:

Website with 1000 mentions of "battery"

Website with 1000 links to it.

Google then favors sites people recommened more by linking to it. I think Google is better than the other search engines.

I use the original one, the other ones are too hard to read.

I believe we have all discussed this topic fully, and it doesn't look like anyone is giving up their point, so lets just agree to disagree and call it enough. I will.

And as a final statement of my opinion on DNA and whatnot - I think genetics forms a template for our behaviours and the rest is shaped by our environment and our choices.

One of the things I would like to comment on in this discussion is the assumption by many that being gay is a genetic defect. I'm glad that most of you said you "believe" this is the case which bases your suppositions on faith. In actuality there is no evidence scientifically or medically to support this belief. A little research will show that this is still only a theory.

How can you say it is not a defect! Genetic or not it is a sort of defect. They cannot reproduce! That is why life survives! It reproduces! And this is not at all based on faith!

I am absolutely not saying they should be discriminated or not tolerated.

The forcefields can move at different speeds and different directions in different places. It can keep multiple people from hitting a wall.

They don't have a timeship in the 25th century! The very first time communications started around the very late 26th century, but a true time-ship isn't until at least the 28th, with a fully functional one by the 29th and near-instantaneous time-transportation by the early 31st.

The ST Technical Manual says the reason you can keep walking is the forcefields on the ground create a treadmill effect - exactly countering your forward walking. Therefore you feel as though you are moving, while in actually your just working out!

So maybe the math wasn't the best example.

Unless I remember relativity wrong, it said there is no such thing as two events being simultaneous. Since it all depends on frame of refrence - one person may say the events are simultaneous while another observer says they're not! Doesn't that argument istelf sort of defeat time being an absolute dimension - there would have to be an absolute time!

And the thing about this is that light is a constant and we know that light will NOT go slower and as a result time is still valid in this case and that time is the one that is slowing down and not the light ray.

 

So just that takes what you said off the bat and it goes away.

uhhh...that was still pretty confusing, but I think I get your point(s).

What, however, is keeping time from being just a convienent thing that we made up. I'm not saying all that stuff about time cones and simultaneity etc. doesn't still pertain.

Velocity (similar to speed) is equal to distance/time, right? So, couldn't we re-write it as: time = distance/velocity? Then that means that time is a convienent way of relating velocity to distance!

This means, in a time dialation, instead of having time itself moving slower, all the particles just move slower!

Is there something wrong with this idea? I read somewhere this was a viable hypothesis.

I don't think it should end,but after Enterprise finishes their 7th season Star Trek should take a break.Get the fans hungry for Trek again like back in the early 70's.

Not only that but so that people can think of and plan a new series with interesting characters, plots, etc. That would help. I vote - Don't end it, give it a break.

I actually posted something quite similar in the "Uncertainty Principal" thread:

I think this has to deal with the very foundation of space-time and the core structure of the universe. (And quite possibly spirituality too!)

 

I think that there might very well be a sort of universe-wide connectivity (which, as the name implies, connects anything to everything) which makes the entire universe like a super-network.  If you could tap into this network, it would be essentially be becoming one with the universe, and through this you would know everything about the universe and be able to completely control the universe.  This actually sounds a lot like God or Q to me.  This connectivity - because you are the universe - would allow you to know anything and everything about the universe.  This, I believe is the only way we could ever bypass the uncertainty principal.

It sounds similar - except I don't think they are wormholes.

First you have to save/download the files from the web to a folder on your computer.

To set the sounds:

1. Go to the "Start" Menu

2. Click on "Settings"

3. Click on "Control Panel"

4. A window should open with numerous icons like "System, Keyboard, Mail..."

5. Double-Click on "Sounds"

6. A small window will appear with all the currently set sounds and commands accociated with them.

7. Change the sounds as you see fit. You probably will need to use "Browse..." to find your downloaded sounds.
