  1. Yes, trekbabe, we should try to go in with U.N. support. The only problem is that the U.N. wants to delay the war too much. The War can't be delayed more than another week or so. If not, then it will start to get very hot over in Iraq, which is pretty much a big desert. And, with bio and chem protection suits, the troops can't fight in the summer in the desert. They would have to wait until next year, when the situation is much worse.

  2. Something that never happens in Star Trek:

A console fails to blow up because of a highly sophisticated 24th century technology called a 'surge protector'

I think it is kind of cheesy when all the consoles blow up in a battle scene. I mean the only reason they do it is to make it look cooler. What do you think - too unrealistic or too cool???

Reply and share your opinion on this age-old quandry!

  3. TNG Quotes at: http://www.sjacob.org/trek/quotes/S_TheNextGeneration/

    Some are:

"It never happened" -- Yar to Data (The Naked Now)

"Shields up! Rrrrred alert!" -- Riker (practically every episode!!!)

"Eaten any good books lately?" -- Q (to Worf) (Deja-Q)

"I am NOT a merry man!!!" -- Worf (Qpid)

"Synthetic Scotch, synthetic Commanders..." -- Captain Scott, Scotty (Relics)

"What do you want me to do?" -- Q

    "Die" -- Worf (Deja Q)

[after they kiss] "What were you just thinking?" -- Jenna

"In that particular moment, I was reconfiguring the warp field parameters, analyzing the collected works of Charles Dickens, calculating the maximum pressure I could safely apply to your lips, considering a new food supplement for Spot..." -- Data

"I'm glad I was in there somewhere" -- Jenna

"Good tea. Nice house." -- Worf, trying to be diplomatic (The Survivors)

    And . . . Celtic_Swimmer I believe you mean:

"If you (I'm trying to say a bad word but can't) me, do I not... leak?" -- Data (The Naked Now)

  4. Hi! Welcome to the Boards!

What's up with your screen name? Is it just me being paranoid . . . or does your name (first backward) spell TOS dead (with the correct capitals) TOS standing for The Original Series??? Is this true or is it just me???

  5. I think that Enterprise is good - (I'm mainly just upset about these stupid reruns!!!)

Some enterprise episode have been just okay, and some have been really quite good! I really like any episode involving the TCW (Temporal Cold War). I think - as ReAder said - It will doubtless get better as the seasons progress. The main problem (of few) that I have is the characters seem kind of flat. There isn't a lot of personality in them. I also think some episodes weren't done too badly but were just a complete cop-off of a previous story-line.

All in All, I think Enterprise is worth watching and hopefully the characters will aquire more depth.

  6. I have some good ideas for a ST story, it will be set in the future after nemesis, somewhere around 2400. I will be posting each episode as a topic and each chapter/part as a new reply. I will write the first few episodes but someone else can write an episode or so if they have a good idea. Please post any comments/ideas/suggestions or requests for chapters here. I will post the first episode soon.

  7. Still, (I'm not disagreeing with you, trekbabe), even the humanitarian aspect aside, there are still many reasons to go to war now:

    • Saddam has Biological and Chemical weapons and is not afraid to use them

    • He might have nuclear, but he will try to get them

    • If he doesn't use these weapons, he will likely sell them to (guess who!) Terrorists!

    • If we don't go to war now, it will likely get worse, he will get more weapons, and sell or use them, etc.

    • Not to mention the possibility of using his robot drones to spray chemical and biological weapons on his enemies - Israel, maybe even the U.S.!

So, there are many good reasons we should go to war...

In the famous words of...whoever said this...

"War is something no one wants, but must be done from time to time to maintain the quality and abundance of life"

  8. That's really cheesy!

I bet the "mountain sub" site is by the same person or a friend!

That is sooo bad! Not even entertaining! Those pictures are crap! C'mon Any recent movie could kick butt on that! Even TOS had better special effects!!! That site stinks!!!

I guess that's what you get for actually looking at those sites!

  9. First, the episode airs May 7th.

Also, I think the Borg are cool, and this could be a great episode... It's just the Borg have a slight "overdone" feel to them. They have already done too much on the Borg - Not to say they aren't interesting and scary, however. I think they should do more species pertinent to the time period - like TOS and pre-TOS species.

I'll reserve my official opinon until it airs. It could be good, I hope it's good!

  10. Oops! Forgot something!

There is also the theory of Quantum Realities

In this theory, each time you time-travel you create an alternate time line. In this case, if you traveled back in time to kill yourself, you would succeed and you would still exist but your younger version would not. You would have, in effect, "jumped" realities. If you went back to your time no one would know who you were because in their reality, you don't exist!

Intereseting??? This is "Subset C" under my original post.

  11. I have many things to say...

THE WAR IS NOT ABOUT OIL!

If anything, we should not go to war for oil! A war would create great instability in the oil market, driving prices up. When a new government gets set up, they will not give us free oil! They will need the profit from the oil to rebuild their country! Also, what's to say Saddam might not burn the oil wells like in Kuwait?!?! That would be millions, if not billions, of dollars of oil right down the drain. Also, based on a new poll, by CNN, the great majority of Americans believe the war is not about oil.

There are many GOOD REASONS to go to war

    • Saddam is a murderer and torturer

    • Iraquis lack many freedoms we take for granted in the freer countries

    • Saddam DOES have biological and chemical weapons

    • He might have nuclear weapons, or just might be in development

    • If done correctly, The world would be much better off without him

And ... if we don't go to war now, the situation will likely get MUCH WORSE!

The war could be really easy, or could get REALLY NASTY

The war could go really easy and simple. Saddam's soldiers could desert and the special ops units could thwart Saddam's bio and chem weapons.

    -OR-

Most of Saddam's soldiers could stay loyal, Saddam could use his bio and chem weapons, not only on american and british troops but on his own civilians! Also, here's something nasty: Saddam has duplicate british and american soldiers' uniforms! He could have them out on the front lines - the soldiers wouldn't know who was their own soldiers or not! He could also use them to kill off opposing groups of civilians and videotape it - thereby making it look like americans and british assasinated civilians!!!

After reviewing this evidence, I believe WAR is something no one wants, but must be done to remove an evil man from power.

  12. I liked spiderman and X-men. Mainly for the Graphics, but the story was pretty good - You see, if you don't like it then you don't like it! You have to like that kind of movie. I heard (although I haven't seen it) that Daredevil was a flop.

There is a great site for movie critques - check out:

    http://www.rottentomatoes.com/

They do a great job on most movies. Some types - like "Kung Pow" - they don't like, but if you like that kind of thing - it was great!

See, they gave "Daredevil" a 44% (out of 100%) - that is bad!

Spiderman got an 88%, however and X-men an 81%!

Sooo, obvoiusly the professional critics liked them!

When you're looking at rotten tomatoes' ratings a good guide is:

90-100% - Worth the movie ticket

80-90% - If you like that type of movie - worth the ticket. If it isn't your favorite, it might just be a good rental

    70-80% - Probably just a good rental

60-70% - Only worth watching if you like that movie

    <60% - not worth it

Now, there will always be exceptions - the most likely are "stupid funny" movies, etc.
