  1. I think omni'x is right. The Borg activated Data's emotion chip(against Data's will),in order for the Borg Queen to try and seduce him.I think she was at least partially successful.Luckily for Earth,Data's sense of duty won out in the end. :)

  2. whats wrong with ENTERPRISE? its a great show, :)  gives new insight into how things started. and is just an allaround good show. i think you need to give it a good chance. you may just be suprised.

I've given it about as much a chance as I'm interested in giving it.I don't like it for all the reasons the anti-Ent crowd has. :)

  3. Though her screen time isn't on a par with the other main characters,I still consider Nurse Chapel a regular.Just because somebody isn't on every show, that doesn't mean their just window dressing or an extra. She appeared on no less than 18 TOS episodes,5 episodes of the animated series, and at least 2 of the feature films. The character also plays an important role in numerous of the TOS novels. And while, the novels and animated series are unofficial, they are important.Christine Chapel was definitely a regular. :)

  4. I voted for Jack Johnson. Not only was the guy strong as an ox,he had great stamina regularly fighting through 15-20 rounds. And he wasn't afraid to be the man that he was, despite the prejudices of his era.An incredible champion.I also like Sonny Liston, and Roberto Duran. :)

  5. I have no interest in being a vegetarian.Sure, the things I enjoy eating will probably kill me before I reach retirement age,but at least I'll die happy!I could probably replace the oil in my car with a blood transfusion from myself.I've never had my cholesterol tested, because I know its high.I don't care.My oldest nephew is a vegetarian...well,sort of,he does eat and drink dairy, that's like a sin for vegetarians I think. But he doesn't drink soda pop.He wasn't raised that way.As a baby and a small boy I fed him a lot of the same things I was eating. But when he was around 13 or 14 he just decided he was finished with meat.I had no problem with his decision. Its his body, afterall.I just don't let him lecture me on the merits of eating the stuff he eats(eckk!! :) ).Hmmmm, steak!

  6. I remember that day vividly.I had overslept and was late in waking up my nephew for school, his bus was outside honking the horn and he and I were both scrambling around(me trying to throw something together for breakfast really fast, and make him a sack lunch, him getting dressed). The tv was on,and it was showing the World Trade Center, but the sound was muted.I really wasn't paying attention to it.I saw the smoke, etc and wondered for a second why they were going over the WTC bombing of a few years earlier.I thought maybe it was the anniversary or something. After seeing my nephew off,I went back into the house and turned on the tv volume and was devastated when I heard what had happened, and was still happening in NYC.At the time I didn't live in Fresno, but Caruthers,California a very small, rural farming community.Later that day, about thirty locals gathered at a chinese resteraunt in town and drank coffee and talked about what had happened.Several young men declared they were joining the army.I was furious and said that Bush should nuke the entire middle east(the scenes of joyous arab celebrations in numerous countries there made me see red).I was halfway to the recruiter's office myself,at least mentally.Later on,I changed some of my opinions, but still bitter,I have not forgiven the fundamentalist islamic world.

  7. I love films that are so well written that you find yourself honestly caring for the characters, and becoming emotionally attached to them. Two films that did that for me were (1) The Color Purple....I hated the character of Mister so much,I couldn't watch Danny Glover movies for weeks after watching it.And I cried when Nettie and her sister were reunited at the end.I have to read the book the film was based on one of these days.(2)Amistad.Not terribly well acted or directed, but I could feel all the frustration, rage, and betrayal the Africans felt during their long stay in America. And at the end, when the lead character (I know his name, just ain't sure how to spell it)goes home only to find his village and family gone,destroyed...yep,I cried again. There are other films that have really reached out and touched my heart. These are two of them.

  8. I know this is a really old topic, but does anybody know if Pepsi ever marketed the cans mentioned here?If so,I never saw them. Not that I would notice,I like Coke(but usually buy RC and Shasta Cola because its cheaper!),and only buy Pepsi if I have no other cola options.

  9. I voted no.I've been around for less than a month, and I really enjoy going back and reading through the older topics and posts.I am an insomniac, and those old posts give me something to do whenever I find myself awake late at night/early in the morning.I've even replied to a few that were from way back in March,April,May,etc...

  10. The only thing I remember from that day(I was 5),was my brother sitting in his room crying like a baby.I didn't understand what had happened, though.I have the vaguest memory of my mother telling me that someone had died, and my asking if the person was related to us.As soon as I heard that he wasn't family,I just short of shrugged it off and went back to whatever it was I had been doing.I was never a big Elvis fan.He had an amazing voice and was very talented, and I love many of his gospel songs. But I don't own any of his albums or watch his films. My brother was and is the Elvis fan in the family.

  11. I own and listen to all of the Star Trek motion picture soundtracks (except for Star Trek:The Final Frontier...I've never been able to track it down). In my opinion, the soundtrack from Star Trek:TMP was the best. But,I also enjoy the soundtracks for Insurrection and The Search For Spock.Do any of you have an opinion on the subject?Curious.

  12. There is a wealth of great films they could watch, other than the ones listed in the poll and the ones they have watched already. Here are a few of my suggested films:

    (1) To Kill A Mockingbird

    (2) The Color Purple

    (3) Gone With The Wind

    (4) Its A Wonderful Life

    (5) Moby (Please stop me from cursing) (1998 version with Patrick Stewart as Ahab!)

    (6) One Flew Over The Cuckoo's Nest

    (7) King Of Kings (with Jeff Hunter)

    (8) Singin' In The Rain

    (9) Amistad

    (10) Casablanca

These are in no particular order.I've watched them all,own them all on DVD or VHS,and would recommend them to anyone. They are well written, well acted, well directed.Classics.I could have went on and on,but this is a pretty good list,I think.

  13. I think the point he was trying to get across to the doctor was that a star ship captain was not the only job available.

Yeah,I suppose so.Still seems an odd choice. Not that I would necessarily object to an occupation that put me into contact with Orion Animal Women on a regular basis  Of course,I wouldn't trade them as slaves..... :)

  14. William Shatner's box office bomb aside,he is a good writer, and I loved Tek War.Maybe he could bring just enough to the table of a new series to allow other writers to expand on his ideas and get the ball rolling on a series that would help all of us forget the disappointment Enterprise is.Though,my personal take on Trek's flagging popularity is that the product needs to be scaled back for a while, and relaunched some years down the road.

  15. I think that clip was a little dated, between season 1 & 2 but it did say something that caught my ear, paraphrased it stated that the admirals at Viacom stand at yellow alert, ready to jump in if the alien ship fails to correct it's course. That, should scare every ENT bashing fan to nightmares. If they think they have trouble with ENT now wait until the suits are forced to take action, perhaps then they'll wish they had not been so quick to criticize.

Then again, maybe the Suits will bring in fresh writers with fresh ideas.Even if that approach is taken and fails,it would still have the desired effect for the anti-Ent faction (of which I am a card carrying member),Enterprise will be off the air.

  16. While checking out various Trek web sites yesterday I happened upon one that had a NX-Class Enterprise variant. The guy that designed this variant had wanted to demonstrate the way he thought the first Enterprise should have looked like(it appeared to borrow heavily from TOS-era design ethics and scaled-down TOS-era technology). He said he had been quoted in a few major magazines as saying he thought the Enterprise NX-01 stunk, etc, etc, and wanted to change his opinion.I dunno,I didn't really pay attention to the articles at the site, just the starships. If anybody thinks they know what site this was, please tell me.I've forgotten and would like to show my nephew, breencommander, the variant design(which,I don't think is as nice as the real design).

  17. I am a Jr,though not my father's first son. There are times I've wished I had a different name.My name isn't very 'strong' sounding, not like "John" or "David".Its Freddie.I hate that. And,most times people spell it with a Y as in Freddy. And,I hate Fred as well,so there's no sense in my shortening it.If I ever have a son,and after raising my two nephews I can't imagine wanting to put myself through that again...(shudder),he will defenitely not be named Freddie.
