  1. One thing I want to do this summer is go there. I've been there in the past two years, but on school trips where we have to be at a certain place and we're only there for about two hours.

And considering that my family has such close ties to the Air and Space museum...We have pictues of Paul Garber, the man who created the Air & Space, at my parents wedding...I personally feel a really close tie with the place, and I just want to spend a whole day there.

Wow! he was at their wedding?? That must have been neat!

    Probably, but I don't know. I wasn't there :)

We also live in his old house...Smithsonian cleared it out years ago, but he used to have postersed signed by Charles Lighnberg (I don't know how to spell his name).

Kind of mind boggling to know what kind of stuff used to lie around our attic!

  2. I loved English and German as I went to school.

    Mrs. Captain Picard

Ahh German... since I am part German on both sides of my family, I chose to take it in High School..I loved it! I am pretty rusty though, since I took German III in 1997.

I actually, was in German III this past year, but unfortunetly due to a growing list of problems I dropped the class third quarter. But, I really love the language.

Really? that is cool to learn that there is a fellow German student here.. Do you remember much of it? I can remember a lot when I hear it or read it...but when people want an on the spot translation...I usually draw a nearly complete blank!

I have the same problem with translations!

I'm not great with the language though. Part of the problem last year was that my German classes went like this:

    6th & 7th grade, German I

8th grade, schedule conflict, had to take German I again, but it was counted as German II (this is where the problem began, I didn't have the right vocabulary & grammer I needed)

9th, "Oh you'll do fine on the televised German III course!" NOT. :)

So I basically have about a German I/ II vocabulary. *sigh*

I would have loved to take more of it, but I was so frustrated!

  3. For me, the real indication that this humanoid mentality has changed in Star Trek is when we see a non-humanoid captain of a starship... has that ever happened?

Nope. All human. I was kind of hoping that if they did a new series, that the captain would be an alien, but we got Enterprise and Archer (who I am starting to like as the series progresses).

  4. B)   :)  B)  :)

Talking of which, does anyone know what Voyager books there are available?

    A bunch.

    Some that I recomend:

Pathways; it explains how the crew wound up on Voyager and the paths their lives took to get there.

Mosaic; Pathways included everyone's story except Janeway's. This is her story, every other chapter is her past, while the others are what is going on that is making her reflect on her life.

Homecoming; Book one of two, it is what happens after Endgame.

The Farther Shore: Book two of two. Just finished reading it...Wow. That's all I have to say. Great book, can't say much without giving it away.

  5. Last time I was there was probably 1987 when I was a Sr. in Highschool. Between 1978 and 1987 I probably went about 25 times though. I grew up 15 to 20 minutes from Washington so it was just a short subway ride to get downtown.

Last time was '97, but before that was in '81 or '82. Iwas really little but, loved it there. My dad wanted to go to one of the other museums, but I made a fuss and they later took me to where I was happiest.. the Air & Space museum. In '97 I was up in DC as a part of the National Young Leadership Council, and as a part of our stay, we were allowed to select a museum...guess where I beelined to?? Air and Space Museum. I guess then it was a right decision for me to try to become an astronaut, which is still what I am working towards(i really want to be a mission specialist).

  7. I don't usaully drink soda. I'm allergic to the sweetener that they use in America (corn syrup) and in the age group that most kids got hooked on it, I couldn't drink it. I still can't stomach more than two cans of Sprite tops, and no more than a can of Coke. :)

  8. Considering that I'm still in school, this is kind of hard to answer. :)

Looking at my report card I'm getting A's and B's, so I'm not stupid by their standards. But from my point of view, a report card isn't an accurate assesment of intelligence. It just shows how well the students can do their assignments, how well they can read a book. Unless you have a really good, fair teacher, I personally think that they are just testing your ability to memorize facts, rathar than comprehend them.

So, my opinion is that knowlage is knowing the facts, but intelligence it being able to comprehend the facts and infromation.
